Guangzhou city was established more than 200 BC. It was captured by the British during the First Opium War, and consequently lost trade to other ports such as Hong Kong and Shanghai. The first Opium War (1839-42) was fought between China and Britain, and the second Opium War (1856-60), also known as the Arrow War or the Anglo-French War in China, was fought by Britain and France against China. Rice is the leading crop.
    INFRASTRUCTURE:
Guangzhou boasts of advanced infrastructure, including the third-busiest airport (Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport) in terms of passenger throughput; the fourth-largest port (Guangzhou Port) in terms of cargo throughput; and the most well-connected railway network in the Chinese mainland.

Most of the foreigners come here for business.
    FITNESS & LEISURE:
There are plenty of areas for exercising, and you would mostly find adults.
    GUANGZHOU ATTRACTIONS:
    The main Guangzhou attractions are:
    - Canton tower, that used to be the tallest man-made structure in the world; boat ride on the Pearl river, Chen Clan Ancestral hall, Sacred heart cathedral, Shamian Island, Qinping market and new Zhujiang city. Danxia mountains (best know as rainbow mountains) are about three hour ride away. These mountains are considered to be some of the most unusual geologic formations in the world. The modern Guangzhou opera house is located next to some skyscrapers - it looks like a submarine! Guangzhou library is also there. The Canton Tower looks stunning at night.
    SHOPPING IN GUANGZHOU:
The new city has large shopping malls such as the Grandview Mall, next to it is the Tee Mall and Tai Koo Hui, and not far from the opera is the Friendship Store.
    EATING IN GUANGZHOU:
Cantonese food is the tastiest in all China. I enjoyed the food especially from the popular restaurant known as ABDULLAH RESTAURANT. It was interesting that firstly all the meat dishes would be served and only in the very end rice, noodles and bread etc would be served.
GUANGZHOU IS A VERY SAFE PLACE TO BE.
