My wife’s grandmother was a Lightsey. She grew up on Lake Okeechobee and her husband was a commercial fisherman on Lake Okeechobee when it was still legal. She had stories about surviving the hurricanes of 1926 and 1928, and they were great stories! She was an awesome lady who lived into her 90’s and was as sharp as a tack until the day she died. She made the best swamp cabbage you ever had. My family misses her terribly.

My Grandpa just turned 90 and he was a Cowboy back in his younger days for the Lightsey’s .He eventually became a crop duster pilot but he always loved being a working Cowboy but he had a big family to raise so that’s why he flew the plane’s.His name is Jesse Lee Davis Sr.from Okeechobee. I love you Grandpa, (My Hero) Jesse Lee David III.

Love this island. Great video of a fantastic island that I grew up my whole life fishing around it and enjoying the beauty of it. Thank you for keeping it so beautiful.

I looked at a map of Florida and saw this island in a huge lake and had to research… knew it had to be special. Wow! It looks incredible. Love this video.

“Important to us to keep the natural beauty here.” Proceeds to bring in exotics species to “get ahead”.

Apparently the animals regularly escape and swim off the island

That's not the truth, a couple buffalo have left over the pass 50 years but we got them back pretty quick

@@fightinggator4398 there’s multiple deer that have escaped and now roam around florida

@@Specogecko they could have come from anywhere. There has never been any proof that any deer has left brama island. I personally know of many cases where exotics have escaped from high fences and even trailers moving them down the road

That would be one hell of a swim, especially in bad weather. I had not idea Lake Okeechobee was so BIG. It was like being out to sea.
