So not much good about this guitar, not surprisingly, second hand price vary from 80-150 USD. But how can be it good for modding when the P90 holes impact all that u can do it with? I may have to find some frame that make the P90 hole suitable for a single coil in the neck and something humbucker that fits in the P90 hole in the bridge. Then chop the headstock, put a hipshot copy tremolo . done

I think it is not a guitar only for beginners. I play until 1972... Please could you tjink these lutherie is sufficient to justify an upgrade p90 and electronics. Yes the tuners are bad and myst be upgraded. But could you think better pickups can increase expressivity and charm. I am ok with crunch and saturation it is not so good.may i hope to obtain better? I am not a fan of Alnico 5 magnets in P90s (like those in this guitar). Too strong. Higher output, but sucks a lot of the magic out of that big coil. I've always liked the Seymour Duncan Antiquities, with Alnico 2 magnets. All the grind, midrange sparkle and sweetness that makes P90s so special and different from anything else. Lollar makes some nice P90s too.
Your playing always brings out the best in the instrument. I've considered buying one of these but went for the TE90 FLT in green burst instead. It has filtertron style pick ups and delivers a sound which is great for country or rockabillly. I would love to see what you could do with one of them Jon.
I've been specifically looking for a dual P90 equipped guitar but really don't care for the Les Paul Specials or Double cutaways. I wish I could find an SG style with dual P90's but being a lefty the options are always thinner (outside of the random eBay specials, of course). I came across the Harley Benton TE90QM and really appreciated your detailed look overview of it. I'm very much an amateur player but have wanted to add a P90 guitar to my options and this looks like a good start, especially for the price point.

I have had this guitar for about two years. I originally was attracted by the appearance, I think it's gorgeous. But I was curious about P90's, having never tried them. I have been playing for over 40 years, and I have many guitars. This one has become my main players, It seems to be able to do almost anything. I have or have had American tele's, strats, etc., but I immediately fell in love with this one. I find myself pulling it off the wall more than any other of my axes. Just love it!
Exactly the dame for me. I have strats, es355, archtop... I discover p90 in a goldtop lespaul copy. I fall in love with them. And these guitar sound very well in clear. Very expressive. 👍
Hi Jon, I got me a used one 2 years ago and really love it. It has the Wilkinson P90 that HB used to install in earlier years, and with them the sound comes close to my 86 Gibson 335 - except this thing about the hum, but I usually don't play high gain sounds so it's all right. Just bought this new from Thomann for $180 + $85 shipping (to Seattle area). Placed the order on July 5 and it should arrive July 10. We'll see how it goes...
I have the same guitar but made by that IYV brand on Amazon. I didn’t have to pay that import fee so I believe I paid like $150. It’s identical to this guitar though and I head it is made in the same factory as the Harley Benton ones.The sound is unbelievable for the price. Wish I could play it as good as you though!

Mine out of the box: Nut was pinching/binding every string. Volume knob would randomly cut volume completely, and at random positions. Everything else was in good shape (you weren't kidding about neck dive). Stock pickups were decent, but I swapped them out for MojoTone Quiet Coil 56 pickups and the tone improvement was significant. Had my tech upgrade the pots, too. This thing now sounds/plays incredibly well and still cost far less than comparable models.
As always Jon, you play it beautiful ... and brings the best out of the guitar .... I have just ordered one at Thomann's Look forward to have it next week together with a TE 69 hot rod .... Must say after I had the TE 52 some time ago ... I feel fine about these HB guitars ... Thanks for your review of this guitar ....
I have the blue Humbucker version of this Jon. It was a Bstock. It needed a shim, new locking tuners and a fret level to get it playable but it plays really well now. I also switched the magnets from Alnico 5 to Alnico 2. It is a great modding platform and it’s also a lovely light weight for my off days pain wise. They have gone up significantly in price since I bought mine. My friend Mark got this version and it played perfectly out of the box and the P90s are much sweeter than the Humbuckers. When it comes to lower priced guitars you can be lucky or not. It’s a great way to learn the skills if you are not lucky. Very interesting Jon - cheers 😄👍👍👍
I have the p90 version. Very smooth and subtle or rageaous depending of pots level. A great base to progress in guitar and a serious guitar after setting up and tuners changement.
$221 new! Cheapest used p90 I found locally was an LTD EC256p w p90s and it was $200 but no quilted top they came gloss black or gold top only. Sounds like a great deal to me.
First. Another A+ video from you! I have wanted a p90 guitar and have seen an IYV that looks identical to this one. I have read that it is the same as the HB. True? I don't know. It was on amazon and would have been easy to order, unlike he HB and the wait times, exchange rates. etc. I love these tones compared to my G&L Tribute Bluesboy. That was going to be my guitar peak. Well, i was my financial peak so I many just have to make the best of it. Keep up the great videos!
Your excellent playing camouflages the fact this is a $210 guitar - it is indeed a beauty and as you suggested with some better tuners it would be more than adequate. Just one note: although the white binding is described as ivory , it is most certainly not. It should be described as "ivory colored binding" which means white plastic.
I may be wrong, but I think these would be great with the Filtertron type humbucker. I've never had a Filtertron, but wouldn't they work well with a semi-hollow?
I like this I just wish the did the headstock matching or black, I think it would have looked better, but this is still in my wish list cart.. :) But of course the playing is amazing..
@@SG-js2qn maaaan the CST 24T P90 looks super nice. Really wish there was a hardtail version. Maybe it'd be easier to buy one of the hardtail CST's and just install some p90's myself? (Or find somebody who knows how to do so)
@@GeoffTaucer It's more expensive, but you could get any humbucker guitar and replace the pickups with humbucker sized P90s. That gives you all kinds of choices on what guitar to get, and you shouldn't have to do anything more complicated than some soldering. If you are looking for a guitar with P90s from Thomann right now, IIRC there's hardly anything. Not many models to start with, and of those, hardly anything in stock right now.
Hi Jon, It's got quite a retro vibe about it. Some very small imperfections in the finish by the looks of things. The P90's sound good, looks to have quite a wide neck. Nice though all the same.
How you produce such a GREAT sound at normal volume? I currently use a VOX - AC4 and use some pedals. Distortion, Overdrive, Chorus, Delay...never get such a full sound...any recomondations?

Jon - Great vid, as always, and of course.... beautiful playing. You are always such a tasteful and thought-provoking player. And this guitar is awesome. I have the exact same guitar. Well.... kind of. LOL I picked up the IYV version of this guitar, and got it in 2 days from Amazon for I think $159 a few months back. I can't lie. The "Destiny Wound" branded P-90 pickups SMOKE!! And the guitar is gorgeous. I think it's just about identical, with the exception of the head-stock. Pickups are even identical, except the branding that's etched on there. Mine aren't Roswells. And for the record... I love Harley Benton Guitars. Really do, and I have several. All great. But the IYV I got is killer. I was really surprised by it, and the thing just smokes. .Looks pretty, and kind of tame... but it's not. LOL Anyay - Great vid!
Pretty cool guitar ,I have several harley Benton guitars they are all very well made guitars for the money I also have name brand guitars as well a 2001 strat and a kramer striker with a floyd on it ,compared to my other guitars my harley Benton guitars are awesome in terms of quality and playability, the bad thing is thomann has gone up in thier shipping cost I live in springfield missouri in the states ,it now cost $80 for shipping in the past the shipping was $60 ,which even though the shipping has gone up in price I will still order from thomann the rise in shipping cost isn't going effect me purchasing from thomann because thier guitars are really really great from the money I do believe you can get 2 or 3 guitars for that shipping cost though , great video, that guitar is beautiful ,i have to check that one out for sure,god bless stay safe Johnathan keep the videos coming I watch them every time you post one
I have a few guitars in the really low price range. This one is my favorite, it really sounds amazing. Thanks for the video - for me it is more a lesson how much more I can get out of it.
From Leo: You certainly make wonderful music with that guitar. Thank you for your work. I replaced the ceramic magnets in mine with Alnico 5 magnets. That really took all harshness out of the highs. You are certainly right about the tuners, I replaced mine with smoother ones. A friend bought one a few years back in transparent blue. Over time the blue faded to a beautiful green that really shows the great quilted top finish. If I would have known that it would become green, I would have bought the blue one.
Yes the nut on mine was badly cut...and tuners were bad....I put fender locking tuners and a bone nut......and my tech adjusted the truss rod....the f hole paint was not proper painted but that's nothing to complain about... mine was so out of tune until I did the changes....its not a schecter or fender....but its ok for a newbie like me....im just curious how other p90 pick ups would sound in this....oh and I changed the string tree also

So glad you reviewed this guitar Jonathan. I have the TE90 QM and I love it. Amazing for the money. Mine sounds nothing like this one though ..... because I'm playing it, not you lol :) Seriously though, I think the P90's sound fabulous, especially for jazz / blues influenced tunes ( as you say, they produce very "warm and creamy" tones ). I agree with you regarding the Fusion Pro's. They are a lot more versatile and another notch up in quality .... and yet I wouldn't be without my TE90 QM. I enjoy it immensely. I just received it. Strings first thing to be changed. Cheap and stiff. Adjusted a bit bridge height for each string and plays beautifully.

I modded mine with some fralin p90s and it retained the midrange richness with some real sparkle up top. Highly recommended.

I have the p90 version. Very smooth and subtle or rageaous depending of pots level. A great base to progress in guitar and a serious guitar after setting up and tuners changement.

$221 new! Cheapest used p90 I found locally was an LTD EC256p w p90s and it was $200 but no quilted top they came gloss black or gold top only. Sounds like a great deal to me.

First. Another A+ video from you! I have wanted a p90 guitar and have seen an IYV that looks identical to this one. I have read that it is the same as the HB. True? I don't know. It was on amazon and would have been easy to order, unlike he HB and the wait times, exchange rates. etc. I love these tones compared to my G&L Tribute Bluesboy. That was going to be my guitar peak. Well, i was my financial peak so I many just have to make the best of it. Keep up the great videos!

Your excellent playing camouflages the fact this is a $210 guitar - it is indeed a beauty and as you suggested with some better tuners it would be more than adequate. Just one note: although the white binding is described as ivory , it is most certainly not. It should be described as "ivory colored binding" which means white plastic.

Hey, I've been considering getting a guitar with P90's from Harley Benton, and was wondering which HB p90 guitar is your favorite?
There aren't a whole lot of P90 options from HB right now. You might look at the CST 24 P90.

Really wish there was a hardtail version. Maybe it'd be easier to buy one of the hardtail CST's and just install some p90's myself? (Or find somebody who knows how to do so)
@@GeoffTaucer It's more expensive, but you could get any humbucker guitar and replace the pickups with humbucker sized P90s. That gives you all kinds of choices on what guitar to get, and you shouldn't have to do anything more complicated than some soldering.
If you are looking for a guitar with P90s from Thomann right now, IIRC there's hardly anything. Not many models to start with, and of those, hardly anything in stock right now.

Hi Jon, It's got quite a retro vibe about it. Some very small imperfections in the finish by the looks of things. The P90's sound good, looks to have quite a wide neck. Nice though all the same.

How you produce such a GREAT sound at normal volume? I currently use a VOX - AC4 and use some pedals. Distortion, Overdrive, Chorus, Delay...never get such a full sound...any recomondations?

Jon - Great vid, as always, and of course.... beautiful playing. You are always such a tasteful and thought-provoking player. And this guitar is awesome. I have the exact same guitar. Well.... kind of. LOL I picked up the IYV version of this guitar, and got it in 2 days from Amazon for I think $159 a few months back. I can't lie. The "Destiny Wound" branded P-90 pickups SMOKE!! And the guitar is gorgeous. I think it's just about identical, with the exception of the head-stock. Pickups are even identical, except the branding that's etched on there. Mine aren't Roswells. And for the record... I love Harley Benton Guitars. Really do, and I have several. All great. But the IYV I got is killer. I was really surprised by it, and the thing just smokes. .Looks pretty, and kind of tame... but it's not. LOL Anyay - Great vid!

Pretty cool guitar ,I have several harley Benton guitars they are all very well made guitars for the money I also have name brand guitars as well a 2001 strat and a kramer striker with a floyd on it ,compared to my other guitars my harley Benton guitars are awesome in terms of quality and playability, the bad thing is thomann has gone up in thier shipping cost I live in springfield missouri in the states ,it now cost $80 for shipping in the past the shipping was $60 ,which even though the shipping has gone up in price I will still order from thomann the rise in shipping cost isn't going effect me purchasing from thomann because thier guitars are really really great from the money I do believe you can get 2 or 3 guitars for that shipping cost though , great video, that guitar is beautiful ,i have to check that one out for sure,god bless stay safe Johnathan keep the videos coming I watch them every time you post one

From Leo: You certainly make wonderful music with that guitar. Thank you for your work. I replaced the ceramic magnets in mine with Alnico 5 magnets. That really took all harshness out of the highs. You are certainly right about the tuners, I replaced mine with smoother ones. A friend bought one a few years back in transparent blue. Over time the blue faded to a beautiful green that really shows the great quilted top finish. If I would have known that it would become green, I would have bought the blue one.

Yes the nut on mine was badly cut...and tuners were bad....I put fender locking tuners and a bone nut......and my tech adjusted the truss rod....the f hole paint was not proper painted but that's nothing to complain about... mine was so out of tune until I did the changes....its not a schecter or fender....but its ok for a newbie like me....im just curious how other p90 pick ups would sound in this....oh and I changed the string tree also
Yes.. if you get staggered tuners.. you can ditch them strings trees too!✌️❤️

So glad you reviewed this guitar Jonathan. I have the TE90 QM and I love it. Amazing for the money. Mine sounds nothing like this one though ..... because I'm playing it, not you lol :) Seriously though, I think the P90's sound fabulous, especially for jazz / blues influenced tunes ( as you say, they produce very "warm and creamy" tones ). I agree with you regarding the Fusion Pro's. They are a lot more versatile and another notch up in quality .... and yet I wouldn't be without my TE90 QM. I enjoy it immensely. I have this guitar and replaced the hardware for Schaller. The P90 are good. In the end it turned out to be a good guitar.
