I've had many different guitars with the most $$ was a Suhr. Sold my Les Paul standard and Fender American Strat HHS on Craigslist and bought a floor demo ESP LTD MH 1001 (active EMGs for metal, $635), new Harley Benton Fusion-II HSH Roasted FNT (to replace the bluesy strat sound, $375) and a Harley Benton TE-90 QM HH Trans Blue (bc it is gorgeous and feels like silk in my hands, $212) and still had $1000 left over. Couldn't be happier! IMO the day of the $1000+ guitar is over for the non-professional musician.

I'm seriously considering buying one of these, I'm a left-handed player and I see these are available in left-hand which is very unusual. Usually been a lefty you're restricted to fairly basic looking guitars but I'm really pleased to See Harley Benton supply this version to keep us leftys Happy. Well done Thomann and by the way... great fucking review man, I love watching your review videos on all these guitars keep up the good work👍🏼

Same here …I decided after years of noodling and many many higher end guitars coming and going that I no longer will spend for the headstock alone anymore…., sooo a lil while back I got the hb 35 plus lefty and iam dumbfounded at the quality .it’s so good I can’t help thinking I just got lucky and no other Harley Benton could be this spot on in every way….but I see so many good reviews I also can’t help gas’ing for more Harley Benton guitars….hence me being here now researching my next unneeded purchase…when in reality I know if I get another Harley Benton that is anywhere near as good as the hb35 plus I’ll end up eventually owning every lefty they make ….I have serious issues with controlling my gas and low cost high quality isnt helping .

Here’s a tip: I have this guitar now, and I adjusted the pole pieces after I gave it a good setup (raised the individual poles on the neck pickup on the high 4 strings, and raised the bottom 4 on the bridge pickup)
Now the neck has more sparkle, and the bridge sounds fuller! Just a recommendation
Edit: this is the one with the Roswell Pickups that I’ve got

    Hi HP
just to continue, I purchased 2 harley on my favorite site ! the TE 90 and CST24HB. As I'm used to with my guitars I swapped the PUs and pots for CTS: Tonerider Hot 90 on the TE90 and Railhammer Hypervintage/alnico grande on the CST24HB. The results are huge sounding guitars for the price, with both nice and fat tone with tons of sustains. The TE90 is very living with the Tonerider, punchy with great character. Better than others guitars I have costing from 600 to 1200E... Don't hesitate and try these Harley guitars ! as 2nd or main guitars, you won't get wrong. Again thanks HP for your great vid on Utube.

I have this guitar for several months now, and have found some facts that could be useful to people thinking in buying it.
The pickups in this guitar are stacked P90, so not truly single coil and one of the reasons (mostly) for the "massive" sound. An easy improvement I have made is change the tone pot for a "push-pull" pot to null one of the windings ("split-coil"). With the coils splited, the sound gets thinner and more rounded, much better for my taste.
Another interesting fact is that raising the pickups makes the sound more balanced and less bass focussed. I would have expected that raising the pickups would make the opposite effect, as happens with humbuckers. Maybe someone with more experience in P90 pickups can explain this.

    • @yourunclehank1
      @yourunclehank1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

It's a hollow/semi hollow body type guitar. That's where the low comes from. Raising the pups out of the "resonation cavity" brings out the highs. Henning likes to critique as plug n play straight out of the box but it would be good to see him tweak a little on some of them. It might answer a question for someone or the difference in someone buying or not.

The pick-ups have been changed. This guitar sounds different now because of it! They are Roswell pickups! Somewhat different than the Wilkinson pickup. Better suited in my opinion. (Recently, means, now in 2109)

Yes! Just bought the one with the Roswell pickups. Usually, I like guitars that lack too much high end, Ive played mostly strats and teles and have used exclusively the neck pickups, but the new TE-90QM is just voiced so well, and the guitar is prettier in person
The neck is very warm sounding, and there’s a bit of clarity on the high end, but I like to roll back the tone knob a little bit and just play jazz tunes
The middle position is really nice for something more funky, lots of low end and lots of clarity
And the bridge... I usually HATE bridge pickups because they lack a lot of the low end in my opinion (I use Ernie Ball Mammoths which are 12-62 to avoid this) but this actually sounds phenomenal and I find myself actually using the bridge pickup on this guitar
This guitar with the Roswell pickups, new logo on the headstock, etc freaking RULES. Can’t believe that “The guitar for me” actually cost less than $200.

Deffinately a winner in my book since they make a left handed version of this thinline. I have a fractured pelvis and a bad back, this looks like it may be my next guitar it looks really lightweight. I have found some Daisyrock lefties which are somewhat light but this guitar beats them all. I wish i knew how much it weighed. I have bought 3 Bentons so far, LP style, Tele style and PRS style with f holes, None of them was B-stock. Tele was shipped to someone in Germany before it came to me, two others were shipped from Thomann to Serbia. Tele shipped to Germany first was absolutely perfect, but two shipped to Serbia were in pretty poor shape. PRS style was absolutely non intonated at all, with completely loose truss rod, neck relief of more then 1 mm, nut some 2-3 mm higher then normal and absolutely not leveled frets. LP style had nut that was less high but very uneven depth, good frets, again absolutely loose truss rod, but tailstop studs pulled out from the body completely with sockets when I took strings off. Both fixed and turned out to be good playing and sounding guitars, but QC is obviously not the same for stuf that goes to Deutschland and to small non EU countries like mine. I really like that guitar and would buy it if I find someone to buy it from me in Germany.

@@Oleg_K. Vidi, svojim PRS-om nisam zadovoljan, prvo i ja sviram takav zvuk, znaci blazi drajv, max distorzija kao ZZ top, uglavnom blues. Zasto nisam zadovoljan.

After watching your's and everyone else's I ordered the HB SC 450 P90 GT...Big disappointment. The return policy to Thomann?!...is a long drawn out process that doesn't work..The guitar had to get frets leveled, crowned, polished...nut needed replacing, wasn't cut right...scarf joint is very questionable...have to use it because the return policy is....something to be desired! I live in Canada. This guitar shouldn't have made it past,,,that guy you know who checks all the guitars. I had to put 3 hours into this to make it play...and not well either...but it plays...maybe the export guitars to North America from Thomann are...well...not looked at as close let's say...I want to order pedals and other products through Thomann but I don't know now...I know they just distribute but, Henny; YOU made claims of Thomann unboxing and checking each guitar and then to receive one as bad as this??? I have the TE-90QM (the newer one with Roswell pickups)
I say go for either the HB-35+ or the one I have, or BOTH. They both are pretty different in my opinion, and you’re almost comparing apples to oranges. In a way, the HB-35+ is just geared more toward jazz and blues, but also with the coil splitting options, is overall a much more versatile guitar. You don’t get the tonal versatility out of the TE-90QM, but then again it depends on who you are. The pickups in the TE-90QM are much darker sounding and also produce the hum, but the way I play, I get the tones I like from rolling off the tone 10% here or there, or rolling up the volume just a bit
But if you want the coil split options, definitely go for the HB-35+
But also, the CST in my opinion is just a completely different ballpark than 2 semi-hollows, to me, it feels less like either of these, and more like a PRS-type guitar with more... breath? If that makes sense. Not a fan, but it’s a beautiful guitar and if that’s your thing too, definitely go for it, that and the HB have humbuckers
      Have you bought one yet?

They might set up guitars going to influencers. It would make sense. Every guitarist should own basic set up tools. Even in High School in 1978 I would use my mothers emory board for her nails to lower bass frets. I'd check then with a credit card. These days fret rockers, a measuring card are cheap and commonly available. Set up directions are all over You Tube. We had none of that. We figured it out through trial and error. Cmoin guys you have to do something to learn. You can';t expect the world to drop perfectly set up (tastes vary) instruments in your lap.

Because if that's the case, your explanations may not bear the whole truth, in that, though not you, but they prepare it specially careful before the review.. So: Do they know, it's you, or do you buy them inkognito?
BTW, I do have the TE-90QM, and it's a whole lot lovely guitar for the money..It's got really charakter, and the PU's I like so much, I bought another pair for another project of mine.
And a third one, you can adjust the screws of the pickups for any single string, and that works really well, eg for the higher strings. I did so with mine even differently at the two pickups. Somewhere I read, one would adjust the overall height of the pickup with the two holding screws. That ist certainly not true. These have to stay tight, or one gets uncontrolled parasitic vibrations, which take away from the wanted way of the sound.

As you may know, even better than me, because i'm a really noob, relative air humidity, atmospheric pressure, average temperature, and a bunch of other things affect guitar strings and woods, therefore, doesn't matter if it costs 100€ or 10.000€, when you buy a guitar from other country, or even within your own country, usually, you'll need to, at least tune it a bit... sometimes even setup the axe. anyways... nice reviews. keep up the awesome work, and love the way you are so transparent and sincere about what you think...

In fairness re the setup of the HB and their setup when received that you speak about on this video . I have 2 and both needed a fair bit of setup . I'm sure if HB know these guitars are being sent to you then they will surely make sure they are fairly well setup to reduce any criticism ? Great reviews though !

I like the idea of P-90s on a T-type, so I looked it up, and didn't find this model on the Thomann site. Then, I looked at the date on this video. Here I am in 2021, not knowing that HB guitars had been around since 2015! Same for the Jmaster-style HB. So enjoy this for its own sake - you can't buy one now.

There’s a tele with p90s on Amazon under something along the lines of ivy prs red something. It looks very similar to this one just different headstock. I’ve heard that ivy and Harley use the same factory. You can compare the ivy mustang and Harley and it makes sense

50 bucks for a clip on tuner? For that money you can buy reasonable tuners and you won't have to tune your guitar as often anyways.

+Nick in the States Hey Nick.... don't listen to the YT trolls.... they can get in your head and it can get pretty annoying... but let THEM do a better job before they critisize what we do... you are doing it with passion and you are KNOWN for doing good demos of Harley Bentons... my friends at Thomann have noticed and your name has been dropped there... I am trying to get something going... maybe some "test" gear for you.... so don't worry....

+EytschPi42 holy moly! Thanks Henning! You're awesome. I don't let the trolls win. A while back I got a bit disheartened but I've met so many good people that the not so good ones fade away. Thanks again on the Thomann info! Made my day just knowing that they even seen my little corner of the world. Keep doing awesome man.

Hi bro! Nice Review! very pleased that you list all the actual pros and cons with this guitar! Just need to ask how much of the dull sound of this guitar can be blamed on the p90s? I really like the blue one cuz of its colour and that one has open humbuckers. would that have any positive or negative effect on this guitar you think?

    Hi HP!
This review by now is 5 years old. Don't you think it is time to admit you were wrong back then?
The TE-90 is an very convincing P90 instrument. Hardly anyone will be disappointed.
Truth is more important than false pride.

To my ears your rosewood veneered T guitar sound the best by far.
I also like the gold top. P90s on this thinline sounded much better with a bit of overdrive. Great color. Harley needs to offer/order more lefties.

Mother of pearl is the white Stuff and in german called "Perlmutt"
Abalone are the blueish inlays and the are made from abalones which in german are a special sort of so called "Seeohren" which seem to be some kind of shells/clams
    :) hope this helped

If they went in, they can come out! P90s screw in from the top. 0:43, in the bottom right, you can see two screws between the second and third strings and fourth and fifth strings. The pots have to be pulled out through the f-holes, though, which is a pain in the neck. Tough, but not impossible. There are tons of videos showing you how.
