They owe you/ us all a public apology and to tell the full and complete truth so their followers will understand what happened and why so their followers won’t keep questioning everyone’s intelligence while being clueless at the same time.
I think a direct public verbal apology to you and Rosie would be a great start. Let the healing begin, thank you for everything Shelley. I can't say it enough. You saved these fine tiny coils and I appreciate you.
We all need to heal and it starts with a real Apology. Out of all the stylist that came at me in my DM telling me that I was scaring people or insinuating that my stylist was just incompetent or that I was trying to destroy their livelihood. Only ONE has yet to Apologize. There is so much we have held back , these two years have been horrible. I suffered greatly from all the horrible mean mental attacks. Bullying online. Had we not created a safe space, I honestly don’t know … Thank you for bravely taking a ride with me . I thank Narada so much !
Thank you for coming forward and putting your concerns out here because it’s helped a lot of us put two and two together. All of us affected can’t be wrong if we can show pics of our hair where you can see the dehydration, the same color changes and the same “flicky bit” ends that’s not a coincidence.
I also think they owe a huge apology to Latoya Ebony. I remember vividly how she was treated when she questioned the method, and she is someone who handled it with grace. She didn’t deserve how she was treated and is someone who has always been a good source for inspiration prior to the whole no oils no butters method.
So pleased LaToya has been mentioned here. I too remember how viciously she was treated and how condescending and dismissive they were to her. It was quite disgraceful. Jenn, in my view, took the easy way out and LaToya shouldered the brunt of the disdain.
@@yardleywood7585Jen's approach was definitely tactical and more careful but i still appreciated how vocal she became as time passed Ebony came forthright and Aisha came for her jugular, man it was bloody i still remember it
It’s kinda good they offended her bc I believe it turned her off to them; then she started doing her own thing now her hair is flourishing so it kinda was a blessing in disguise… 👏👏👏
The BGC and CIK Saga created a toxic environment in the natural hair space, making people dismissive and snarky as they were backed by 'professional advice'. It took a lot to speak out. Thank you, Shelly and Rosie. And AHG's advocacy will never go unnoticed.
this. i took a break from natural hair because i shaved all my hair off and started wearing wigs for for a few years. I was going through it lol. but i decided to start taking care of my natural hair again and when I came back, there was this stupid BGC thing. And their disciples would act so toxic, weird, and snarky over it. as well as nonsensical. I remember comparing it to devacurl. because they pretty much just copied devacurl's business method. it was a cash grab. and so many people fell for it.
I understand the emotional impact of having compromised hair. I was part of a 4.5 million dollar class action suit in the 1990s against a so-called natural hair product called Rio. I had nightmares about my hair during the process. I was only awarded $40 due to lack of documentation. My hair grew back, but some women sustained permanent scalp damage leaving them bald. It's going to take a while to heal. You are grieving. Take your time.
My hairstylist used Rio product/ perm on several of her clients which caused baldness but when she asked me, I said “No Thank You!” Years ago, it used to take 7 years to formulate and test products before the consumer gets it. No more~ people make their products and sell it the next day!
They are disingenuous. When they reach out to you, Rosie, and Narada then we can see if they are actually sorry. It took them being exposed to finally tell the truth. That arrogance and smugness is still there. I am sorry you have had to deal with this. It is not fair and you rightly deserve a proper apology. The “apology” they gave was such a “here damn and leave us alone”. Thank you for fighting the good fight.
Card carrying member of the "blocked by Aishia club" here 🙋🏽♀️ (Not by Aleise though, and the post she made on the cik page is definitely all her, not aishia. It's just vague enough to skirt legal troubles. ) It sucks that you had to go through all of this. Here's to 2025 being the year of healing!!
@ In my case she got mad (I assume) when I innocently mentioned on a reel that showed up while I was scrolling that it's more effective to separate twists from the top (Narada has a good tutorial on it) and she proceeded to tell me that no professional stylist does that, and it doesn't make sense and when I made a reel (from her comment) showing her that it actually is possible and WAY quicker, she told me that was only possible because I have smooth and silky hair. I said that I actually don't and that any silkiness she was perceiving came from the shine of the grease I had used. The video got 1K views and she blocked me 😅. I have the screenshots though, and the vid is still on my page I just can't see it 😅
Whew! I first heard of this method from Jenn J two years ago. I knew it wasn’t anything I could consider for my hair because castor oil alone saved my hair after I damaged it from blow drying in 2022. So I decided to just watch to see how it all played out after some time. There’s no way in the world I would have predicted it would have got to this point, where so many people would literally be chopping their hair off after spending so much time, money and effort into doing the method. Hats off to you, Rosie and Narada for staying the course in sounding the alarm. It’s been a lesson for us all…to learn our own hair and stick with what works. And also not to make what works for us as “Bible” for all other naturals. Our hair is like finger prints, similar in ways but very unique to us all. Many hugs Shelley. 💕💜💕
This resonates so much. Their method ruined my hair and my daughter’s hair. You and Narada are out here doing the Lord’s work. Thank you so much for speaking out and being so vulnerable. It isn’t easy and you are very much appreciated.
Thank you for sharing your experience because it’s important for everyone to hear it. Some seem to think that we are focusing on the negative. No, we are focusing on the truth and highlighting it! Especially since they are still heavily promoting this method. I think it might be time to take legal action because this is NOT okay!!! 💔☹️❤️🩹
You are so welcome Shelly and I thank you for helping me save my hair before it needed to be shaved (although I lost hella inches). I feel the apology should be just as public as the slander and threats you and Narada endured. Literally asking ppl to block and report your pages just to keep people from finding out their deceitful truth, and all the mean ways of blaming us for the damage they caused. It’s been a traumatic year and a half to say the least.
Thank you for sounding the alarm. The cost for these curly cuts and salon sessions alone need to be addressed. I try to take everything that's said with a grain of salt but some stylist in natural hair community have been speaking with surety like they know everythingggg and we've definitely peeped the condescending and patronizing tones in their videos. Meanwhile their base is struggling to keep their hair from following their advice. If nothing else i hope they treat the customers better.
Exactly! The all-or-nothing mindset is not that of an educator. If anyone questions them, they don't answer and then either ignore, invalidate ("dryness isn't a feeling"), and dismiss ("you don't haaaave to listen to me, do what you want"). An honest educator knows they don't know everything and can say that.
❤❤❤ I am so sorry you have been framed as a bully when you and others were actually victims. It is unnerving to me that so many BW in the BGC/CIK cult wanted you and others to suffer in silence! These same people whine and complain when they are mistreated by other groups of people in the same way and call it racism, cyberbullying, misogyny, microagressions, etc. The apology is too little and too late. The money is indeed drying up. They were fine burning through everyone else's money though. They stole the information everyone used to fix their hair and acted like it was a pivot or new revelation! Indeed, YT and these hair forums mostly had it right! Hairstylists have been scrambling to catch up to meet our needs for the past 10-15 years and most of them are doing an awful job. I think you and everyones willingness to help those affected by this method because you figured out how to fix the damage on yourselves speaks how much integrity y'all have. Narada and other stylists not in favor of this method also showed a great deal of integrity by helping clients and spreading the word about dangers of this method to hair health. This is what true leadership looks like.
Very well said and I agree that they were trying to takeaway from the natural hair community on TH-cam. It just sucks because it really was just a grift and most of us would have remained loyal if they just gave us quality work and guidance over lies and ego.
I’m less than a minute in but had to say, it’s not just hair, it’s our time, our hard earned money, the affects on our confidence and how we show up in the world. If our hair is our “Crown and glory” we cannot let other so called “queens” continue to destroy our crowns and play in our faces for their own greedy financial gain.
When I'm desperate I go read a book on a topic...and in some cases several books!! A lot of people have online platforms but are selling snake oil. I can only see things getting worse as people rely more on technology and internet self-help instead of going in person to an experienced, trained and certified professional. For me, I remember the world before the internet so I'ma stick to in-person professionals and not online subscriptions.
@ It's the academic in me..I don't just read one book and I also look for references. What is the book called? is it a best seller on Amazon? How many pages in this book? Which other cosmetology and science professionals accredited their book? Do they use their book in Cosmetology school? I'm detail-orientated. A lot of people write books but they are not accredited or fully respected in their field. I also view new books with scepticism. The devil is in the detail. The other problem with some books is that people read one thing and take it out of context. This happened with the Curly Girl handbook. The author wrote use conditioner OR botanical cleanser. Everyone and their Moma took that to the internet to mean only wash with conditioner with no cleansing agents...when you can use non-sulfate or low sulfate shampoo just fine!! I'm autistic which is why I pick up on all the details that average people miss.
I vividly remember when you would ask questions in See Some Curls and it was clear that they weren't really answering your questions. You weren't rude, but you stood your ground. I didn't think anything of it initially as it was before you realized the damage. Thank you for being brave enough to say something because as black women, we have enough issues with figuring out our hair.
Yes, I asked a lot of questions in side of see some curls! My questions were always met with the question and I felt I was walking on eggshells most of the time. Also, it feels like if you’re singing their praises, they are happy but if you question any part of their method, then they get upset. It should be a give-and-take not just one way lastly, thank you for speaking truth and sharing how you’ve seen me move around them. I think it’s important for people to hear it from others. 😞❤️🩹
Their apology was not sincere. It was giving to stop the bleeding of their business. They have been nasty and snarky this entire time, no truth in their apology.
I believe there’s zero truth and their apology! They clearly have been hit hard financially and are just trying to stop the bleeding and rebrand. I don’t buy it one little bit. Plus, how can you Apollo-lie and not unblock the very people that you’re supposedly apologizing to. Make it make sense! Good try but I ain’t buying it at all!!! NEXT👉🏽
Wow… I’m surprised that the apology wasn’t more direct, honestly. That pride was covered with malice, insults, bullying, and a whole lot of passive aggressive behaviour. After all that, to have a general apology is cowardly. We love you and appreciate you. I want to say, Thank you for saving my hair!
Thank you so much for speaking up. I know it’s not easy but if it weren’t for your videos i came across several months ago, I would have never figured out that my hair was this damaged. Trying to figure out where to go from here has been the most stressful part. I’m now having trust issues when it comes to looking for new stylist. So many in my area jumped on the bandwagon of doing curly cuts. I’ve commented a lot on your IG and appreciate the time you’ve put in to help us all. I’m just now starting to document my hair journey and plan to post so you and the few others are not alone in this fight. But I’m not comfortable posting until I’ve found a solution to this problem. My biggest problem right now is figuring out which products would be the best to start with that’s not going to further damage and actually start healing. I was denied service at a salon recently and so lost right now. I decided I’m just going to blow out my hair at home and do the best cut that I can 😅
You did the right thing speaking up. You’ve helped and will help a lot of people who may be suffering from hair damage for years to come, as some people are just hearing about this. It needed to be brought out.
Please look into healing from narcissistic abuse. The gaslighting, the stress, the cult group damage is so real. And can have long lasting widespread impact. It’s not the hair part, it’s the abuse you went through that takes its toll. I’m praying for all y’all’s healing who has been affected. 🙏🏽💕
The thing that irritates me is they would get genuinely mad when ppl wanted to know what was going on and now they’re doubling down. I had no idea my hair was experiencing webbing bc it was dried out
I had a lot of oil buildup so the detox was good for getting rid of all that and hydrating my hair, but the back to back wash and goes with no leave in gave me so many tangles
I have been trying not to say but all of this is true what they did. They done it to me as well. When I say my daughter’s hair changing before my very eyes and we went to their certified stylists and took their classes…I immediately stopped with her hair as a natural curly because I new something was right. I kept on because I really wanted my natural curls so then I joined their other class and that’s when she got smart with me and her other coworker said well you can’t lead a horse to water…I was done right then and there with that class but I tried to keep wearing my hair curly but their method wasn’t working so last year in October I decided I was done with curls and their system and my hair is flourishing wearing it naturally straight. Thank GOD but I will never refer anyone to them and I’m so glad the stylist where I live didn’t listen to me to follow them because they would have been completely my fault.
Ugh I’m so sorry this happened to you too! It’s crazy that they offered their resources for free today so now even more people have access to them to possibly damage their hair! I just hope they updated them to reflect the remedies we’ve been sharing❤️🩹
They're not sorry for anything they've done they're only sorry they got called out. We can't trust those that can't take accountability and don't do the work to change.
I went to check the 'apology' and the die hards of the method are all confused in the comment section as to the 'why' of the apology. That is exactly it, what exactlly are they apoogising for? not clear. Only that they did not hear you but now they see you. Everyone is filling in the blanks but they are not saying what is wrong. When Abena talked, what she was apologising for was clear. So now you can dowload the e-book for free, which most likely is the latest version, where tweaks to the language were done, and is most likely not the one you had. You can also email them your problem, which is a way to see how much they messed up and probably tweak the book even more to say "it was on p.30" They are not serious. I personally would not expect more from them, all they have to offer is in that e-book. it's hard to do what you did. To go against the trend and stick to your gut👏🏿👏🏿 Curly Chemistry, cosmotologist on YT who had thoughts on this method, has a new e-book on healthy hair coming out. Could help those looking for a new beginning☺️
I can see it in your face how much it has exhausted you. It’s not just hair. It’s an extension of who we are, it’s a part of who we are. I was never a part of BGC or their method but all of you have taught me to speak up and ask questions. I now know how to comfortably dialogue with my stylist and express when something doesn’t feel right. I would have never gotten to that place without you all. Stand strong and I know there are countless others you’ve helped in more ways than one. ♥️
Honestly stay strong! Just remember you were one of the few people taking the brunt of the heat because you spoke out about it. Them having you blocked just shows the impact you really made. Stay strong! The haters are drinking the koolaid
Thank you Shelly and all the others who brought this out in the open. I was on BGC when you were on. I was also experiencing breakage and dehydrated hair. I saw three dermatologists. But now I have a stylist that I feel very confident with. I am hopeful that my hair will get through this. I am sorry that this happen to all involved . I really learned a lot from BGC about my hair that I did not know before. I love doing wash and goes and I feel that now we see there was a problem, let BCG, stylists, and everyone involved move to find a solution so in the future we can have a new and improve wash and go. We are all smart, beautiful black women and I just want to see us all encouraging one another and helping that fantastic crown of hair on our head flourish and shine.🎉
Omg Shelly, this video has brought me to tears. I am feeling for you and all the others who have been affected. I am so upset. What is the point of issuing an apology if it's not sincere or direct. This situation is so disheartening 😢. I'm glad you still chose to speak up and you was true to your word, you kept your foot on their necks! Honestly, I'm not trying to tell ya'll (the ones whi have been affected to do) but BGC can take that apology and ya'll know the rest. I'm keeping it cute for YT 🤭
Thank you for your honesty in how you feel about this whole hair issue and how it has affected you. One solution that many may not like is to simply cut if off and start again but this time in a group setting where you all do the same thing at the same time, then look at what you did in the past that made your hair thrive and go down that road again, encouraging each other in every step. For example, looking at ingredients that help your scalp and hair, looking at styles to fit your faces, how to protect your hair in certain months/seasons, and much more, including any vitamins, foods to eat and such like. I say chop your hair off because many will spend countless visits going to and fro to hairdressers, only to lose money then having to cut it off anyway.
Please don’t take offense at my comment. I don’t make it a habit of telling people what to do but you have to continue to try and move forward. If you can’t, you are letting them get the best of you. You have already shown them that their method was a failure for you because now your hair is beautiful, gorgeous and it’s flourishing without following their method. Also, we love the fact that we have hair but we shouldn’t let it define us. Some people are bald and amazing. What truly matters is who we are on the inside. So, even if you may not ever get a personal apology, don’t let that hold you down. You show your inner strength by moving forward and being yourself again.
I receive what you’re saying loud and clear! This entire ordeal has been emotionally draining! It’s time to push forward. The important thing is people now know. And Most importantly, I can sleep good at night but I bet they can’t say the same! Thank you ❤️🩹😘
@@SLB9634 It was and is traumatic....And one who knows about trauma recovery knows that you can't just magically move forward. I recommend the book "The Body Keeps the Score" and the book " What Happened to you?" Personally, I stopped going to black salons and black stylists for 15 years. I go to Aveda which is a majority white salon with white clients so that I could stop being traumatised. I don't know what happened. Years ago 80s and 90s everyone went to black stylists and now everyone is terrified of going to black stylists. Being gaslighted is traumatic, being lied to is traumatic, being invalidated is traumatic, being insulted, bullied and victimised is traumatic....being attacked publicly in the media is traumatic. It doesn't matter if it's about hair. It could be about anything. and it has been going on for 2 years. A trauma therapist told me recently that you can't heal in isolation. You can't heal by suppressing and repressing your feelings and thoughts. Another therapist said you have to take 2-5 months for each year you have been in a stressful situation to recover...provided that you are no longer in that situation....In this case, things keep coming out about the situation. So as much as our black community in Europe, Africa, the Americas and the Caribbean think we should just bury it and move forward and pretend like it never happened..our brains, bodies and souls do not do that especially if we do not fully process the trauma.
It’s not just hair. It’s a part of one’s personality and characteristics. I can only imagine how you and Rosie feel having carried the burden of this on your shoulders. Thank you from a woman who was seriously thinking about following the ‘No Oils No Butters’ method and looking for a Cut It Kinky stylist. I’ve been through enough trauma with my natural hair over 10+ years. I certainly don’t want to go through anymore. I’ve learned a lot from you, Rosie and Narada through this whole debacle.
I don't think it's enough for all the harm they caused you Rosie and Narada. I for one want my picture/video taken down. They were just under a fake profile bashing you? Aishia JUST blocked me this week. It's not enough. But I thank you for sharing your story. I'm positive I would have more damage than I did if you all hadn't spoken up. Even though mine was significant for someone who only used the program for four months. I thank you for never backing down. ❤💐
I really really thank you Shelly for speaking out and speaking loud. I would have never ever considered or realized that I had damaged hair strands from following the BGC method. Curly hair really does cover up and hide damage. You are a courageous warrior, and I can't thank God enough for you. This isn't just hair. This is our crown ❤❤❤
I think this is a good example of trusting your gut and doing your own research. Naptual was my guru but I still did my own research on the methods I liked. Thank you for your fearlessness of bringing this to light cause they was really trying to play it like you were crazy and just wouldn’t move on when actually they wouldn’t take accountability. Congrats on your journey!
It didnt happen to me. I kept oils and butters in my regimen. But Ive been watching you, Narada, Rosie and others. I am an ally! I support all of you and believe all of you!!! I pray healing for all those impacted. 🙏🏼❤️
❤❤❤💐💐💐 Thank you for speaking up and keeping your foot on their necks despite everything you went through because of it. For all the harm these 2 women caused you, Rosie, and Narada (and everyone else that spoke up) and the harm to people following their method (when they KNEW it was messing people's hair up), their apology is not sufficient. Apology or not, it may be worthwhile to explore what a class action suit would take and if it'd be worth the trouble. In a weird way, the way you, Rosie, Tamz, Narada, et al, had each other's backs reminded me of the "before times" when the TH-cam natural hair community seemed more like a real community and was about exploring, sharing, and helping each other. Just a note, if their apology doesn't follow the 11 parts of an effective apology (according to Dr. Honda - a psychologist and TH-camr), then their apology is worthless and meaningless. If YOU don't feel any care from their apology then it's not worth the minimum effort they put into it. And in case they happen to be reading the comments here, I'll spell it out for them. How to Apologize 101: The Eleven Components of Effective Apologies By Dr. Kirk Honda (2022) 1. Acknowledge the transgression: “I did this.” 2. Acknowledge the harm: “I caused you harm.” 3. Take responsibility: “It’s my fault that...” 4. Sincerely express remorse: “I feel bad about...” 5. Explain the cause, without making excuses: “I have the following issues...” 6. Provide a plan to address the cause: “I will work on that by...” Then If necessary: 7. Offer remedy: “I will make it up to you by...” 8. Request confirmation of accuracy: “Did I miss anything?” 9. Request forgiveness: “Do you forgive me?” 10. Follow through with remedy and plan 11. Find meaning
Right this is exactly how Abena made her video and she ain't really a founder of the method She was actually a victim too but for her small part she took real responsibility and it was beautiful to watch
Right this is exactly how Abena made her video and she ain't really a founder of the method She was actually a victim too but for her small part she took real responsibility and it was beautiful to watch
yup.... I've seen too many fake apologies in my life so I just steer clear of those people. Most people are just sorry that they are facing the consequences instead of making amends and remedies for the harm caused.
Shelly, you have every right to your feelings. You and Rosie were not treated fairly or compassionately. Thank God for Narada, someone with a wealth of knowledge who was in your corner along with many subscribers. You know exactly what it takes and you'll do it again. Fooled you once, I bet it won't happen again! 🤗
I agree! I don’t think they really care about the people affected. If so, why didn’t they unblock us so we could be apart of it? That’s very telling on its own.
It’s not “just hair”. Hair is a body part. Its a detect extension of your body. If people were losing toes and fingers we would t say it’s just you toe. And if a Dr was prescribing a treatment or regime and people started losing body parts there would be financial compensations and the Dr would be brought to the licensing board. I’m just saying hair is a part of the body.
Where can the apology be found? I wasn't a subscriber but purchased both e-books and followed the recommendations to the letter. I have damage but working on getting my hair back on track by eliminating the AG shampoo and adding oils and butters.
Stay strong. You are so wise to point out how they man handled the community and we just accepted it because they are professionals. That makes me 😡 , but you did a brave thing. That post on ig still has their followers taking their side it’s disturbing.
I was just thinking yesterday that I am so happy that it did not happen to my hair (I never quit oils completely because when my hair needed moisture, I added oils), because losing all of my hair would have been so heartbreaking. Before my mom passed away at 92 yrs old, she always talked about our hair is our crown, and she was not into this TH-cam thing. That was her spiritual thinking. So, I try to take good care of my hair, and these people pushed that crap on people. It’s dreadful. Now I know why you said no once when I asked about Ebbna products (or whatever it’s called). I did not know at the time, but I quit purchasing from her because she was still pushing to concept. Anyway, thanks for being who you are.
the EBBNA lady did a video about the method and said her hair was damaged too. She only sells gel so.......My trichologists only sell shampoo, leave-in conditioner, leave-in detangler, deep conditioner and scalp treatment products: no stylers. The reason my trichologists do not sell stylers is because stylers, dry out the hair and scalp, cause build up and mask the actual look, feel and behaviour of the hair skewing your assessment of it. My trichologists absolutely hate edge control.
These women were playing in hair and then testing this method for a year or so and then using us as science experiments and test dummies. They did no follow the science they learned in cosmetology school. You weren’t the only one fooled Shelly so sorry! I cut off half of my length has the same damage as you. But now we need to take accountability and learn the science and move forward.
I agree, we can’t let ourselves be fooled again! We need to be more informed about what we’re doing to our hair. I will never fall prey to anything like this ever again! 💯
I am glad they have finally said something; however, it falls short. It seems disingenuous at this point. What was said could have been said almost 2 years ago. I hope they do a video on this not hide behind a post.
If y'alls association with Narada is what ticks people off, how about Ebony latoya, she aint partner with him but Aisha dragged her through the mud when all she had were genuine questions and concerns I wonder if they will ever apologize to her publicly 😞
I don't believe their sorry. Don't trust it at all. Speak your truth because a lot of women were affected and lost hair. I big chopped uo to my ears from bra strap length healthy hair. They peddled a style and products not hair care.
I’m so sorry you were affected! ❤️🩹I’m not buying it either! Plus, you have to unblock the very people you were trying to Apollo-lie to for it to even stand a chance!💯
it's weird to me that BGC still has many loud and vocal disciples. I think it partially has to do with the fact that people invested a lot of money into them but also the fact that there were a lot of people with natural hair that literally somehow didn't know how to do a thing at all to their hair so to them BGC was a god send. Whereas, I already knew a lot about hair care due to my own research. No one taught me - unless we're including TH-cam University (and various other sources I would use) - but I also have the skill called discernment. As well as the fact that I was not trying to make my hair look like someone else's and I love my curl pattern. So I'm not the kind of person to easily fall for something like BGC. Anyway, I just can't wait for the cult members to calm down cause they're really annoying.
I appreciate you, Shelly V, for your honesty and bravery. Hang tight, my sister. I still see your light shining bright. You are a giver in this world! 😍These sorts of situations is where being an elderly autistic is my saving grace. I'm also ADHD so sometimes I'm naïve (10-20%), but mostly I'm highly, autistically skeptical (80-90%). I'm highly logical (my husband either calls me Spock or Data from StarTrek), I see and understand the pattern of people/companies clickbaiting stuff we don't need, and I recognize those who always try to "get over" on someone, even when they don't realize it themselves. Why I don't fall for it? The more it's talked about, I'm absolutely not doing it. Ever. It never seems authentic and it screams phony and slim-shady. I learned real quick (my ADHD has a short attention span - LOL!) if I try something twice and don't get good results - I'm out. I listen to my hair, my autistic, logical side, and life experience. My hair routine is boring and predictable, but highly successful. 💕
I remember when naptural85 made a TH-cam short saying she didn't care about the No Oils No Butters trend. And I guess she had a lot of backlash because she had to apologize and take the video down.
I never thought that it made any sense. I mean, why wouldn’t y’all want to seal in moisture? Why did that stop seeming like a good idea to y’all exactly? I saw these TH-camrs promoting that and it was just silly to me, but I figured I would stand back and see how it goes for y’all. Maybe it works for some people. But apparently it was as bad of an idea as I originally thought. I’m sorry for all the ladies who were misled and were set back in their hair journey. But I guess the good news is that you can start over. Your hair will thrive and look better than ever.
@@Rosannasfriend I don't use raw oils or butters. However, it goes deeper because they told people not to use leave-ins or deep conditioner...even though the brands that they demand that you use...make, recommend and use leave-in conditioner and deep conditioner. That bit made me horrified especially as a person with very dry hair!! I use a leave-in every day and a deep conditioner every week...regardless of hairstyle. If I can't shampoo it every week, I do not want that hairstyle. If I can't put braid spray on it every day...I do not want that hairstyle. Other people are using curl refreshers on their second day hair and these ladies tried to tell people that their style should last forever with zero frizz and zero heat protectant...smh. Meanwhile, I live somewhere with high humidity and everyone from kinky to straight hair has frizz.
Shelly, sending 🤗 and 😚. Accountability happened because you and all the other ladies you mentioned and Narada selflessly brought this to the forefront. Thank you all.
Cowards. Theres a difference feeling "remorse" vs "repentant". They're sorry. But not sorry enough to change their ways. Pursue the lawsuit. If there's a petition that needs signatures, I'd be glad to.
Facts Sis! Their apology to me is still very disingenuous! Matter fact, they still have me blocked, so I can’t even read it for myself. Someone had to send me screenshots for me to see it. I feel they are only apologizing to save their brands because I think they have been hit hard financially. I hope people are able to see through the smoke screen and move accordingly! As always, I love and adore you and thank you for Standing by my side through all this craziness! 😞❤️🩹😘
The apology was laced with here " you can download our CIK and BGC ebooks" The very method that gave people damage is still being given out for free without narry a recall , wow just wow
I have to say a big thank you to you, Narada and Rosie. I have been subscribed to Narada for years, to the point where all my kids know his name and the classic memes he used for his watch parties are staples in our house. Anywho, when he started talking about this I sought out you and Rosie. I hadn't heard of Black Girl Curls until then. Funnily enough though, there was a stylist here in London I was looking to book with because she said she specialises in black hair and the integrity of the hair. I was close to booking with her, but was slow to do so because she had weird booking rules and was very expensive. When I researched her a little further she was doing all the things you, Rosie (and everyone else unfortunately caught up in this method) were doing. I was now very apprehensive in checking her out because I had what you guys were saying ringing in my ears. This was some years ago - I would've been caught up in all of this if you hadn't had spoken out. So for this I am very thankful. Thank you for speaking the truth. They confirmed you were speaking the truth the moment they responded the way they did. I am so sorry it has taken so long for them to apologise, but DO NOT trust them again. My Mum always told me when someone shows you who they are, believe them. I stand by her statement. No one should trust them and I feel sorry for people who haven't heard about the damage they are causing.
Hey Shelly, my heart breaks for you; because this is some stressful heart break. I see it all in your face, I don't think you can trust them simply because of the way they handled it, no remorse at all. If you're really sorry you take accountability for it, not dismiss or neglect how you've truly hurt people. I love you Shelly and appreciate your humble and your sharp intuitive. God is going to use this for not only your good but for all of us. You're a super hero.
Beautiful Lady 💕 nothing wrong with your teeth. Envy and jealousy are real. Love your hair....need to get into shape like you. Bless You, Pray....some people will never apologize, Thank the Most High God that he forgives us, when we repent and ask fir forgiveness.
I know this has been a toll on you especially since you just came here to show your story and experience. Just know you are supported, respected, & valued. Thank you for your thoughtfulness, time & effort you have provided to TH-cam & beyond. We see you ❤❤❤
I am sorry for what happened to you! But their method works for me and i have never been happier with my natural hair. The freedom to wear my hair that i have now is crazy. I used to always be in braids back to back. We are all still figuring out about our natural hair. So much to discover every day. Even our body changes every day and it affects it and our actions . What works for you may not work for others and there are still things yet to learn . You may think you get it today and tomorrow you learn something else different. And everyone is out here trying to help, learn something new and if it works for them they share with others. Let’s keep working together to find better solutions. No one has a 100% formula for anything in this life.
They should truly apologize for the nasty deliver-the laughter at a person for using leave-in, deep conditioning weekly. I was in their group before it was named See Some Curls and they laughed at people via videos someone would post about a person using heavy moisturizers.
I hope this helps everyone to see that you shouldn't just follow one method. There are several different ways to approach haircare and one way doesn't work for everyone all the time. You should assess your hair for what it needs and address it accordingly. As people start to heal from this, I hope they don't start blindly following people that claim they know how to fix it. Do your own research, find a great stylist, and do what works for you, not some methodology. I personally took some of what they said and applied it amongst other things. I knew that for me, curly cuts weren't good all the time so I'd switch it up with getting my hair straightened or stretched for a trim/cut. You have to assess your hair on your own and be okay with not having the perfect wash and go and do what works for you.
Honestly, the apology doesn’t seem that sincere, especially because they’re asking for folks to reply to an email or fill out a form for a more personal response. How about start with unblocking everyone and stop hiding comments? How about direct apologies to the individuals whose name they drug through the mud. It would be more believable if they didn’t have such NASTY attitudes to begin with. You’re right, we ALL tried to look beyond the snarky comments and nasty behavior but I think that’s more telling of character. And let’s not start on the fact that it took nearly 2 years for a very indirect half apology. 🙄
Hey everyone, hopefully someone can help me, since I too have been following BGC for a few years, but I’m still struggling with my hair. I have fine, high density hair. The moment I apply the topper gels, my hair becomes a tangled mess, feels like Velcro the way all my strands are sticking together. Anyone have any idea what causes this and any advice to prevent it? I’m really struggling and idk who to trust or turn to at this point
I understand. It’s frustrating when you feel like you can’t trust anyone. 💯 I’m not a licensed cosmetologist, but your hair sounds like it was doing exactly what mine was doing. It means your hair severely dehydrated and you’re experiencing webbing. One of the things I did was added back in deep conditioners and leaves-ins. I also started using more moisturizing shampoos and more flexible holding stylers. Perhaps consider starting there and see how your hair feels. If it’s anything like mine did, it will feel better. ❤️🩹
At this point i dont think they will ever apologize to those affected directly and even if they did it's far too late. I think moving forward and making a community that embraces all the things is what is needed. Working with stylists who are interested in actually listening to consumers. You, Rosie, Tammy and Narada did the good work and spoke out to the community and warned so many of us. I agree, now is the time for healing.
Woow, these women are trash. Not them watching y’all videos & implementing them now. 😂 The apology doesn’t seem genuine to me, I hate it took this long. If you can lie that easily you cannot be trusted. They are finally getting caught up in the mess & don’t want a class action lawsuit. You ladies & Narada are very brave..thank you for always sharing, I appreciate you.😊❤
Curly 'cuts' are not real haircuts. They do not have shape or technique. Dry cutting (technically, silhouette cutting) is reserved for after the real haircut and after styled. It is done to clean up the shape after the real haircut.
@Rosannasfriend 0 seconds ago I never thought that it made any sense.
We live and learn. I never stopped hair grease and other old skool stuff because my hair was healthy aa a child. I am actually sick and tired of natural hair products. I haven't found one line I am satisfied with and I have tried sooooooo many. It almost led me to another relaxer. Lol Keep pushing. Who cares about an apology? Let it roll off. You are not obligated to accept it. Forgive and move on. That's for u
I have no brand loyalty. I use what I need when I need it. I use natural products, organic products, clinical prescription products, drugstore, salon and high end. i like to read and I read a long time ago what each ingredient in a product does to my hair specifically... especially the first 10 ingredients. No product line can do everything that your hair might need in a lifetime....there is also no magic product... My hair was never healthy as a child or as an adult until I learnt that it wasn't the products it was the method.
Can you help me? I’ve been following their routine for 3 years and there’s been dryness and slow growth. I’m so sad about this. They taught me a lot; but, I feel hoodwinked.
I just took a quick peek, and WHEW!! She has the NERVE to be talking about "slander" and people in her comments are accusing victims of basically cheating on the method, when she was the very one whose client (in the video Narada has receipts of "This is what's happening when you blow out your #curlycuts... #splitends #breakage") had terribly damaged ends. 😮😮😮😔😔😔
You don’t.. you had a bad experience you move on. It didn’t work for you, it works for others. Some people can digest oranges others have an allergic reaction. Please seek therapy, it will help you heal and move on. Focusing on negativity is not healthy.
The fact of it is, the method DOES NOT work for very tight textures. Even looser hair would be in bad condition after being washed frequently with harsh shampoos, slapped with tonnes of gel and baked under a hooded dryer. This method was sold as healthy when it isn't sustainable for long term use, and questions about the method were pretty much dismissed.
regardless of whether or not it's anyone's place to suggest someone they don't know seek therapy; seeking it and being silent about having your trust exploited for someone's profit & actively getting harmed don't go hand in hand.
@@tsingletary6311 she has stated herself she has been traumatized by this. Are you saying therapy wouldn’t help her after what she has gone through? That’s for her to decide.
Btw: I’m still blocked so I can’t even see their apology directly. People had to send me screenshots of it. 💔🙈😞
IG they’re claiming they reached out to you guys but it was rejected.
They owe you/ us all a public apology and to tell the full and complete truth so their followers will understand what happened and why so their followers won’t keep questioning everyone’s intelligence while being clueless at the same time.
ALL LIES‼️💯😑
Yes, I agree! I bet a class action lawsuit would shake the truth out about all of it! Including them not reaching out to me since I was BLOCKED!!!
@@shelly.v.247 that part
I think a direct public verbal apology to you and Rosie would be a great start. Let the healing begin, thank you for everything Shelley. I can't say it enough. You saved these fine tiny coils and I appreciate you.
I agree Tammy and a public apology to Narada. It’s been a lot to go through ❤️🩹😭💔
I agree.
Had we not created a safe space, I honestly don’t know …
Thank you for bravely taking a ride with me .
I thank Narada so much !
The lady that started this all ! Thank you sis, your role in this all has been very significant
Sorry for everything you endured 💕
Rosie, I witnessed your pain firsthand as your subscriber.
Thank you for coming forward and putting your concerns out here because it’s helped a lot of us put two and two together. All of us affected can’t be wrong if we can show pics of our hair where you can see the dehydration, the same color changes and the same “flicky bit” ends that’s not a coincidence.
@@miniminott48 thank you for always being so kind and supportive 💖
@@MaybelCarl thank you.
I also think they owe a huge apology to Latoya Ebony. I remember vividly how she was treated when she questioned the method, and she is someone who handled it with grace. She didn’t deserve how she was treated and is someone who has always been a good source for inspiration prior to the whole no oils no butters method.
Latoya Ebony is definitely owed an apology as well. A REAL APOLOGY!!! 🙏🏽
So pleased LaToya has been mentioned here. I too remember how viciously she was treated and how condescending and dismissive they were to her. It was quite disgraceful. Jenn, in my view, took the easy way out and LaToya shouldered the brunt of the disdain.
@@yardleywood7585Jen's approach was definitely tactical and more careful but i still appreciated how vocal she became as time passed
Ebony came forthright and Aisha came for her jugular, man it was bloody i still remember it
@@gretahudson8558 I agree!!
💔😭❤️🩹
😮😢
Omg, I remember Rio! I’m so sorry that happened to you.
It's just vague enough to skirt legal troubles. )
It sucks that you had to go through all of this. Here's to 2025 being the year of healing!!
Same. I questioned something on IG and then suddenly couldn’t find the page
I have the screenshots though, and the vid is still on my page I just can't see it 😅
They talk in circles and that’s exactly how I read that half ass apology.
“It’s just hair, it will grow back”- the hair ain’t even growing back right! Issa mess!
That part!!!! 💯
👏👏👏👏
Thank you for advocating for the community, Shelly. The word "desperate" accurately describes our eagerness to learn about our hair.
You are absolutely right! 💔
Thank you Sis! ❤️🩹🙏🏽😘
@@marleyhill34You do know they actually did write a book that people read and trusted because it came from licensed professionals, right?
@ What books do you recommend that you've found to be especially helpful in regards to natural haircare and styling?
💯💯💯💯💯💯
And mine too!
😞🙏🏽❤️🩹
You can also email them your problem, which is a way to see how much they messed up and probably tweak the book even more to say "it was on p.30"
They are not serious. I personally would not expect more from them, all they have to offer is in that e-book. it's hard to do what you did. To go against the trend and stick to your gut👏🏿👏🏿
Curly Chemistry, cosmotologist on YT who had thoughts on this method, has a new e-book on healthy hair coming out. Could help those looking for a new beginning☺️
Is it on IG? They blocked me months ago when I questioned
❤️🩹✊🏽
Right, to see Shelly as a threat enough to get blocked, told me alot...

Your journey has helped a lot of people, Shelly.❤
You are so right, it’s not just about hair and thank you Sis! 🙏🏽❤️🩹
Thank you! Sorry for your hurt. I hope it helps to know it was not in vain.
How to Apologize 101:
The Eleven Components of Effective Apologies
By Dr. Kirk Honda (2022)
1. Acknowledge the transgression: “I did this.”
2. Acknowledge the harm: “I caused you harm.”
3. Take responsibility: “It’s my fault that...”
4. Sincerely express remorse: “I feel bad about...”
5. Explain the cause, without making excuses:
“I have the following issues...”
6. Provide a plan to address the cause:
“I will work on that by...”
Then If necessary:
7. Offer remedy: “I will make it up to you by...”
8. Request confirmation of accuracy:
“Did I miss anything?”
9. Request forgiveness: “Do you forgive me?”
10. Follow through with remedy and plan
11. Find meaning
Right this is exactly how Abena made her video and she ain't really a founder of the method
She was actually a victim too but for her small part she took real responsibility and it was beautiful to watch
Right this is exactly how Abena made her video and she ain't really a founder of the method

Girl, you just said a word! Everything you said I agree with! And thank goodness for Narada! Without him, I don’t know where we would be!!! ❤️🩹💯
They only apologized to stop the conversation 🎉
Blessings and Love to you Shelly!
Where can the apology be found? I wasn't a subscriber but purchased both e-books and followed the recommendations to the letter. I have damage but working on getting my hair back on track by eliminating the AG shampoo and adding oils and butters.
Instagram
It’s posted on their pages. I can’t see it because I’m still blocked. 😑
They are now offering to give those same ebooks for free. The same ones that push their methods.
@@shelly.v.247me too. I questioned her and she blocked me. Didn’t realize it because I couldn’t find the page
@ Yes, I know she did now, in the last few days.
With you all the friend! And Rosie too!
@@berryberrystylish Thank you Sis!!!! ❤️🩹✊🏽
I am glad they have finally said something; however, it falls short. It seems disingenuous at this point. What was said could have been said almost 2 years ago. I hope they do a video on this not hide behind a post.
I’m not going to lie, I felt the same! ❤️🩹😩💯
And still we rise. Start your own following and block them on social media. We can do this ourselves 😊
I’m ready to do just that Sis! ❤️👏🏽💯
If y'alls association with Narada is what ticks people off, how about Ebony latoya, she aint partner with him but Aisha dragged her through the mud when all she had were genuine questions and concerns
I wonder if they will ever apologize to her publicly 😞
I don't believe their sorry. Don't trust it at all. Speak your truth because a lot of women were affected and lost hair. I big chopped uo to my ears from bra strap length healthy hair. They peddled a style and products not hair care.
I’m so sorry you were affected! ❤️🩹I’m not buying it either! Plus, you have to unblock the very people you were trying to Apollo-lie to for it to even stand a chance!💯
Facts! We love you Shelly😍
Yes I would love to connect with you on next steps to getting healthy hair.
it's weird to me that BGC still has many loud and vocal disciples.
Thank you for sharing your story and for being so vulnerable and still willing to be so available to people.
You're speaking truth!!!! 💯
So glad for the validation. ❤
The apology was laced with here " you can download our CIK and BGC ebooks"
The very method that gave people damage is still being given out for free without narry a recall , wow just wow
Thank you Sis! It’s just been a lot. Like a lot , a lot! 😞But I know you’re right. I feel that God is surely working things out! 🙏🏽❤️🩹
Beautiful Lady 💕 nothing wrong with your teeth. Envy and jealousy are real. Love your hair....need to get into shape like you. Bless You, Pray....some people will never apologize, Thank the Most High God that he forgives us, when we repent and ask fir forgiveness.
I love the consultations that Narada is doing. We would love to see you share what you eat, how you work out
I know this has been a toll on you especially since you just came here to show your story and experience.
Just keep an eye on your hair, because the damage can sneak up on you, and by the time you notice, it's too late.
They should truly apologize for the nasty deliver-the laughter at a person for using leave-in, deep conditioning weekly. I was in their group before it was named See Some Curls and they laughed at people via videos someone would post about a person using heavy moisturizers.
Which stylist admitted the method damaged her hair as well? I hadn't heard that
Embrace Natural Beauty is the name of her youtube channel.
Abena with Embrace Natural Beauty 😞❤️🩹

I’m sorry sis. You’ve been through hell🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾💕🙏🏾😘
I’m not a licensed cosmetologist, but your hair sounds like it was doing exactly what mine was doing.
The apology doesn’t seem genuine to me, I hate it took this long. If you can lie that easily you cannot be trusted. They are finally getting caught up in the mess & don’t want a class action lawsuit. You ladies & Narada are very brave..thank you for always sharing, I appreciate you.😊❤
I wish I could sue them chicks.. I swear. I went though it as well too.
Luv your strength 🥰💙..
Curly 'cuts' are not real haircuts. They do not have shape or technique. Dry cutting (technically, silhouette cutting) is reserved for after the real haircut and after styled. It is done to clean up the shape after the real haircut.
Yup!!!!!!!!‼️💯

We live and learn. I never stopped hair grease and other old skool stuff because my hair was healthy aa a child. I am actually sick and tired of natural hair products. I haven't found one line I am satisfied with and I have tried sooooooo many. It almost led me to another relaxer. Lol
Keep pushing.

You don’t.. you had a bad experience you move on.
It is way more than Shelly. Its hundreds of women.
@@ArethaRenee I agree with you. Hundreds of women may not like the method. Is there something we disagree on here?
