      He’s a sociopath, what do you expect? Most violent criminals are. They are incapable of empathizing with other people.       Deadass there’s a whole thing you have to go through before you can even get paid. You have to have the subscriber count, a certain amount of views, and then you have to have ads on the video that make up to $100 in revenue (which takes a long time) before you can even get paid. I tried to get one of my channels monetized.

      @@Mami__halo Right now, it's a lot harder. You need 4000 watch hours or so under 1 year. There's a way to cheat the system of course, but I'm not sure if it'll work anymore.
      This makes me more conscious about my own monetization. I got it back when TH-cam didn't have dark mode or so, I think.

    I still remember this chase as a kid in elementary school. The really crazy thing was that day me and my mom were in the car to go to school and work, listening to this on the news. Then we see about 4 cop cars rushing down the street on the intersection. Only 2 blocks from there the man was arrested. I will never forget that day.

    I remember this went it happened, the comparison to GTA was jarring and uncanny. Pretty crazy dangerous event. His breakdown upon sentencing was hilarious given the remorseless bravado he displayed, his near victims must've nodded in approval and rightfully so.

    When I was a baby ,my mom was driving in Toronto with me and my twin sister in the backseat. Anyways, she stopped at a light and some dude just hops in the passenger seat and tells my mom to keep driving. After 10 mins he tells my mom to stop the car. He gets out and leaves. That's truly a Canadian GTA moment.

    A kid in my hometown robbed like 20 stores over the course of one summer, escaped the police on motorcycle multiple times and then finally in a chase with a helicopter following him he drove his bike into a swamp and attempted to hide from the FLIR (infrared camera on the heli), it actually worked. When he got caught he said he got the idea from the film predator when arnold covered himself in mud to hide from the predator.

Of course they had never played the game or seen any video footage of the game and these allegations were not based in reality at all.
      The claims of (Elvis/Rock music, Comics, TV, Video games...) causes violence is as old as the generation conflict.

      @@BladeTheGabite it makes sense considering that in 2008 rockstar was promoting bully anniversary and right at the same year there was an incident in a high school where some guy was arrested for assaulting a teacher and while in court he said life is a video game and that the teacher deserved it and so jack Thompson used the incident as an escape goat to show people that the game bully teaches kids how to assault people even though the game wasn't violent at all

      When you commit dozens of felony's Judges have options to make you server it consecutively. I think his showing of no remorse and the conversation with the girl was enough to make sure that was the case. Many times something like this would be served concurrently so usually the years for the worse offense with the longest sentencing is the guideline.

      Thats how charges work. Now if you murdered multiple people that carries 3 charges. If you raped before murdering, that's 3 more charges, so forth so on.

    The lady he was talking to was a reporter for a local news channel. He knew that going into the conversation. He should have talked to a lawyer instead.
    The inconsistency with criminal sentencing is absurd. This was a horrible crime, but murderers and rapists get far less regularly.

      Ehhh. Before he even said that I was already thinking the cops were completely reckless. I mean take a look at 8:09 and you see the cops throw spike strips straight in front of innocent drivers when the car they were targeting was totally out of reach.
      There's much safer ways to go about things and the obvious one is to track him with the helicopter and make him think he got away or wait til he moves to an area with less traffic to get out of the area.

    My dad drives a Camry and got in an accident with me in the car, I just felt a slight bump but the other car basically was completely ruined. Seeing another Camry take that impact like an absolute champ (a.k.a. not vaporize) just shows me Camrys are built better.

    I actually remember this police chase and I remember watching it online live stream and deciding that I needed to stay home that day. It still bothers me watching the footage of the trooper getting completely creamed by him and flying off the road like a rag doll. He is seriously lucky he survived that.
    You did a great job of reporting this one. I gotta tell you when I was watching it live on the local news online it blew me away. It was surreal. I think the punishment definitely fit the crime.

    I couldn’t even imagine what was going through that moms head when she saw her car speeding away with her child in the back seat. The way he just laughed about it all and thinks the police videos are “his footage” would make me loose my mind if I was a parent of that child, even years later.

      I've gone to places where I noticed people leaving their cars running while they are doing whatever at stores. I always think how that is such a bad idea and easily anyone can steal the car. I mean fuck this guy for putting so many in danger for his stupidity but come on, don't leave your cars running, open and unattended people.

      that woman was incredibly stupid to leave her car running AND with a kid in he backseat. i lock my car when im simply pumping gas. the off chance someone runs and opens my door, takes my purse, and runs off? not happening to me!

    Am I the only person who locks their car doors when driving or what? Maybe it's because I live in the SF bay area, but locking my doors after I get in my car is just a natural reflex for me. simplest precaution you can do to prevent a car jacking.

      Could have been due to unintentional kidnapping. If he knew the kid was there then it could have been a bigger charge.
      But if the intent was to steal the vehicle only, and by chance the kid happened to be there, thereby not knowing the child was present in the vehicle prior, it was a leser charge. It sounds like he had no idea about the child in the car.
      That's how I see it anyway.

      I watched a clip a while ago where a guy stole an idling car only to find a 5 month old in it, he mid hijack he pulls over and drops the baby off at a petrol station. So that there is definitely a line some criminals won't cross.
