Edinburghs finest - The Exploited.
This is an incredible historical document, of perhaps the most real of all the later wave of punk bands. A band who never sold out, yet as this video proves, made it all the way to Top Of The Pops, the premier UK teen chart show of the day.
They did however get their unemployment benefit stopped after the unemployment benefit office clerk (Known in Scotland as The Buroo) spotted them on TOTP.
This is a high water mark for the Exploited, powerful drummer Du Stix (Andrew ‘Glen’ Campbell) went down for armed robbery after this and the band was never the same again. Listen to any Exploited record with Dru drumming and that distinctive beat immediately jumps out at you.
Sentenced to 7 years Dru reportedly died in prison from the HIV virus (rife in Edinburgh during the 80’s) contracted through intravenous drug abuse.

I would say playing TOTP while claiming unemployment benefit is genius and fits the ethos of the Exploited perfectly.
