  • An award-winning neuroscientist with a deep appreciation for the rewards and benefits of teaching, Wendy Suzuki discusses her research, and the teachers who inspired her.
Wendy Suzuki holds a faculty position in the Center for Neural Science at New York University, where she also runs an active research lab. Her research focuses on understanding the patterns of brain activity underlying long-term memory as well as the role of aerobic exercise in improving learning, memory and cognition.
    About TEDx, x=independently organized event
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x=independently organized TED event.
The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.*

Just to hear and see this woman makes me happier and exited! lol She is so full of facial expressions, positivity... She catches my attention to the end. Very cool, need to do some of that when I start giving classes in the future. I remember some teachers I had that had a expressionless face and plain voice , I was bored to death, falling sleep and harder to learn, compared to the intense, full of personality and energy teachers, that were my favorite and motivated me to learn even more.

By chance I saw on PBS a documentary this week on Dr. Miriam Diamond. What a pioneer on the human brain. I believe the foremost. Not only a incredible researcher, teacher. a wonderful heart, compassionate woman, with humor. Dr. Suzuki, was a student as she mentioned. Its worth seeing. Her interaction with a four year old on the brain, a former student's daughter; who is now a Ph.D.. himself is amazing.. Yes, she reiterates the human brain loves.

I have heard at certain points in time in human life, there have been situations where a universal conscience arises and some people start thinking of similar ideas! Well, now I can prove I am not crazy, or at least the only one, who thinks physical exercices and mental activity improves learning undoubtedly... Thanks very much for such an encoraging lecture!

Thank you! I'm motivated! Yelling alone is just as effective. Depends on the input and mediocre minds. We are hard wired to view things in a negative way. For 6 years, my son's friend thought his name was JasonNo!
We get yelled for the bad and ugly more than the good. To control, reinforce, not do this or that. No thinking outside the box. Or in the box. Just imagine how fun school would be, if both students and staff start the day with laughter yoda, brain gym, useful exercises such as self defense with power yelling! Everybody, leave the milk spills at home!
The Chinese learn English faster by yelling out the words repeatedly in large groups.
Heavy metal concerts encourage yelling and exercise. Interesting that individuals are like neurons firing together and wiring together.
Unfortunately the mass stays wire and becomes a destructive force afterwards. Many cities learned a costly lesson and ceased issuing permits for these venues.
Compare that to a symphony or ballet.
