For some reason I burst out laughing when I saw the bonus rat video. That rat quite literally got blown away. Anyway, starting that separate Mousetrap Monday website is brilliant. That way, that rest of us can see the videos that we want to see, without the threat of demonitization of the channel as a whole.

I wouldn't be surprised if a piece of the casing broke off and went flying. People have actually died that way which is why you should treat blanks like live rounds.

As Shawn stated, treat it like a loaded firearm, you might think that they are only blanks, but one of those things could easily blow your finger off if you are careless. Good idea but treat it with CAUTION! Those blanks are probably the same ones they use in nail set guns.
Aloha Shawn, just an FYI I believe both Hilti and Ramset sell .25, 27, and 6.8mm blanks for their concrete stud guns. I'm guessing one of these gotta fit the MOLECAT. Great vid by the way. Thanks!

I bought one of these a few years ago and never had any luck killing them in the hole. It went off every time but the mole or gopher ran off. I wouldn't recommend it but others might have better luck. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for posting the extra video on your site! Interesting trap, but seems like overkill and expensive...for rats. Snap traps are just as deadly and less expensive to operate.

And anyways the barrel would be too shot the end of the cartage would explode and probably not have enough energy to go through your boot now if it had an inch or 2 to form an edge tive chamber to support the cartage and a small amount of barrel it would work like that but that would also make it a firearm under us law if its capable of supporting and fireing a live round you have a gun if it can't its not a gun
Or a very impractical gun if you use the nub at the back as the trigger.

From the MOLECAT inventor Vern. Great revue of MOLECAT! You did a great job of explaining the how the device is used and the importance of the Scent Free Bags. The thing I noticed (a very important detail) is that the trigger triangle end needs to ALWAYS be POINTED DOWN TO THE GROUND WHEN SETTING. This is because the two internal, gravity-fed ball bearings are set in unison to acquire the sensitive trigger action. Some comments are the usual: "It's dangerous"- it's not a bullet but a .27 blank cartridge round is used (which you explained nicely). If anyone tries to modify the firing barrel for a live round, the breach will be damaged beyond repair. The MOLECAT device has a trigger safety and the knob controls the hammer safety. Both are released normally after securing into the exit hole of a pest. Use caution and common sense when used above ground as the video illustrates. Not too hard to figure out (with little effort). Also the comment "It's a harsh death" - but comparing the alternative of poisons and body gripping traps (which create a wicked long death) the rat in your video was killed very quickly. What we witnessed was it's motor nervous system reflex. Users & retailers have shown a great response to this product because of it's amazing performance and safety features. MOLECAT DOESN'T MISS!

They look like .27 rimfire cartridges. These are used in Hilti nailguns so if you can get hold of a strip of these, you should be good to go. The packing strip looks like a Hilti feed strip too, it’s what got me thinking but the .22 blank falling through the barrel pretty much confirms it.

The “rat” video link took me to ALL the Mousetrap Monday videos. I had a little trouble locating the “rat” footage until I searched ( 🔍 ) for MOLECAT. The search found the video faster than you can say “give it a flip”. Your videos are great Shawn.
Do you have to buy their brand of blanks or will any that are the right size do?
They use a blank that is slightly larger so standard 22 blanks will not work

The blanks might still be a size commonly used in tools. I would definitely try to find some that match. Unless these are cheap enough.

Maybe it's designed with all that weird complexity to avoid getting classified as a firearm? Captive Bolt Guns have simple designs and are very simple to handle, but require a license and/or training depending on where you live.
But CBGs are not left unattended as traps, I dunno.
Tou Xic vong Blanks are still dangerous. Not as dangerous as a live round with a bullet in it obviously, but still dangerous enough that a misstep could result in severe powder burns, concussive injury to the extent of possibly losing fingers, or potentially death if a loose object of sufficient mass is propelled by the powder charge contained within the blank.
