You must be SUPER carefull when plugging that white plug in , as when i did , i managed to push the female connector clean off the PCB, which then meant pulling the whole unit apart and soldering all the wires directly onto the PCB . Apart from that issue ,, i love the Boscam .Its a great camera for both recording and also a great cam for FPV . But most importantly ,, its built like a tank and can take real punishment . Keep up the great work Bruce . Cheers
Hi Bruce great review i have been flying FPV with the bosscam for a couple of months love it you can turn the recording on off or take still shots from a thee position switch keep up the good work.
Bruce, 1st it has remote control for start stop video and as well for take picture, plus it works fine on 2s too. On my 4s I use 3s power from balancer plug, the amount of unbalance that I will cause will not be a problem for the balance charge
Hi Bruce, You have convinced me to get the boscam over the GoPro. I don't suppose you know what settings you used to enhance the video on your "mistake"? I like the quality and the improved colours. Cheers, Dan.
Bruce, maybe try some filter paper like ND Filter or Circular Polarizing filter from DSLR type cameras. I think you can get them in a 3x5 sheet material, and cut it down to a small square to tape over the front of the little camera's lense.
Hi there, Fellow Kiwi RC flyer here! Ive just purchased one of these HD19's and was wondering if you have any tips on how to set it up to take still shots in the air using a switch from the Turnigy 9x? Cheers, Neil.
HI Bruce you can now get boscam hd camera and gimbal in a kit for $119 on the bay and the gimbal has servos fitted great video as we always get from you
with the new firmware, how is the picture for fpv view as compared to a camera such as the pz0420? if not is there another camera like this that will serve the same purposes?
Bruce..good to see you flying again!...Ditto "thechosendude" and I am saving for the Fat Shark Attitude SD setup.....so this should work on that??.....(using a separate lipo)..Rgds Laurie
Indeed. I'm wishing I'd followed your recommendation on the Sony. I got sucked in by the 'Made for FPV' tag line on the Boscam and git it instead to do both jobs. For the money I'm happy with it as a small, tough HD recorder, but I wanted to use it as my FPV cam as well, and it isn't that great for that. To be fair though, the manufacturer has responded with improved firmware that decluttered the in camera OSD and improved the dynamic range in the FPV output.
Great review Bruce,....and as you said "security camera 2000" are excellent to deal with...other company's could take a leaf out of their book and follow their customer service.
Curiously a search on the securitycamera2000 website gives the following result (search performed 3 July) - "Your search for boscam did not match any products" WT??
How is the noise level on gopro3 and sony 600tvl from sc2000? Funny about the power lead coming off. I totally agree with you that SecurityCamera2000 has very very good service. Hope you get time and effort to finish the backpack Rx and diversity videos. Have a nice day!
Bruce, I have a GoPro 3 Silver and it mess up my UHF so I can not fly with it:-( but the Boscam HD video camera works good. and is you have the GoPro 2 or 3 it mess with the GPS on my Naza. you would think for all the money you pay for GoPro they would have better RF shielding???
The pan tilt is available on goodluckbuy for $25 free shipping. It gears up the pan ratio which gives great range of motion but decreases resolution and means you need a tough little servo in that axis. Otherwise it overshoots and corrects a lot, gets very jerky. Hxt900 were ok but not great, hkscm9 were terrible (I usually find them super smooth on parkfliers), there is a 180 degree analogue servo on hk for about $5 that works well. I have found the fpv output of this camera a bit dark.
Bruce, not convinced about your methods for testing "noise" from cameras. At 3.32 when reaching over to disconnect power - large spike on screen. At 4.28 when you brought lead to antenna - large spike, at 4.34 when bringing camera to antenna, large spike on screen, at 5.05 Horyzon power lead was running under and near antenna - large spike on screen. Bottom line is one can "engineer" almost any response on screen with wire placement and distance of item from the measuring antenna.
I have the Horyzon HD with a pan/tilt which I bought from Foxtech($15); only use the tilt since it is mounted on my Flip FPV quad. I really like the quality of the video; although; flying with 2.4 at this time. I will would like to see the review of the HD without the screen to determine if I can use it for with my Dragon link. Looks like I will have buy another camera(boss) from SC2000; just purchased four of their Sony 700tvl- love them - cheap too. I can't believe SC2000 does not sell mount.
Hey, I dont know if this has been posted yet, however there are heaps of pan tilt mounts for this camera out there on youtube and to the left (video suggestion) selling on hobbyking for 40$
After disassembling my HD19 I found the 5-pin multi-connector was not attached to the circuit board. Kind of explains why the camera wouldn't work. I had to solder five wires onto the board where the connector was supposed to be attached.
Another great review, thanks! :) (I own the HoryzonHD V3 without Display and want to use the OpenLRS in the future. Would be really interesting if the noise comes from the screen or from the cable, and if some distance between Horyzon and UHF-RX (or even disconnecting the display) solves the problem. Foxtech seems to think the UHF-Shielding is enough overall... --> foxtechfpv . com /horyzonhd-uhf-shield-p-596.html , scroll down.) :)
It would have been good to hear or see how we can control the camera remotely. Supposedly you can take stills and start and stop video recording from the ground. But I don't know what kind of switch or control I'd need to connect to one or more of my radio channels to do that.
I agree the connector is poor I broke mine as well. The connector is also hard to find. I bought some from Boscam direct. Stupidly I managed to blow something by connecting a none std USB lead from a keychain camera. No idea what I was thinking. I'm hoping its just the tantalum capacitors around the USB which have blown? I wouldn't buy one again. Its OK though and nice it produces little noise. I had the Horyzon V2 cam and also found the LCD and cable were noisy even after the cable mod.
After wasting time over three days trying to make mine work, it occurs to me that the camera is either dead or the connector is bad. I even tried the cable with just power and the camera won't power-on with that either. I tested the connector (using a pin to touch the contacts) and it tests good, but there is no telling if it actually connects into the internals. The camera comes with a mini-USB that has two RCA cables, and another mini-to-regular USB. When I plug in the regular one, my computer sees nothing, so I guess it has to be powered with 12v for the micro-SD to be active? And since it won't power on, the card isn't visible either.
I really enjoy your videos and your a great person in front of the camera but I wish you wouldn't say your going to do other reviews in 'another' video. Because we know you wont
Fpv output also doesn't handle the dynamic range as well as Bruce's favourite Sony board cam. At less than half the price, if you don't need hd recording..
Thats not a problem at all, just fly upside down. btw i have sony600tvl too, but still havent used it. I agree gopro is overpriced, i dont have one so i cant comment of how good it is, but from youtubevideos it sure looks good.
Have this camera and gimbal set up on my 550 Alien X mode quadcopter for filming and FPV running at 720p 60 frames you can click on my name to see the first tests i have done cheapest place for gimbal was on ebay $26 usd with servos included mike

Thank you for this review , I bought the boscam becouse I really like how you do all the testing on the things that you review.

One of the leads, includes a plug which you can hook up to a rx channel with 2 pos switch, and will take pix when switched.
Would love to see you review the new boscam product from Hobbyking. Price is good and appears to handle the light well.
HI Bruce you can now get boscam hd camera and gimbal in a kit for $119 on the bay and the gimbal has servos fitted

Am I missing something?? Can't find this camera listed on the securitycamera2000 website. Bummer...
Video looks excellent over the net.

how does the recording works, can you make it record without touching the camera, only using the receiver?
I cannot find it at the security camera 2000 page
what is the SKU?
Thanks
Mobius also comes with bracket, cables, built in battery, etc
If you plug an FPV cam in to the Horyzon HD it shuts the LCD screen down shortly after startup, be interesting to see how much that effects the noise.

Hey man, whether this cam is compatible with fatshark/immersion tx? People are getting problems with the firmware also.

selling on hobbyking for 40$
Cheers mate. What is the FPV aspect ratio? 16:9 or 4:3?
Where can i watch a live output video?
Wait how did you get to fly? I thought you couldnt?
How is this for FPV, comparred to Sony 600TVL Super HAD board camera for FPV ?
Do you think that camera is too much weight at 58g for a qav300 hex x copter.
I assume you mean the Boscam Cobra .I've not tried this one but other reviewers have found it noisy in the 433MHz range OK for 2.4MHz.
wish you put the keychain and boscam on to compare
You can run an OSD with any camera that has av out. An OSD is connected between the camera and tx

cant the lens be changed on this cam?
You should try the mobius camera. Cheaper, wider angle camera, more aerodynamic. I really like it.
Another great review, thanks! :)

hi just what you need Boscam Pan/Tilt Camera Mount for HD19 ExplorerHD FPV Video Camera from hobbyking hoping this helps keep up the good work
Bob
It is very easy to mount the Boscam HD19 with some pieces of RFP and six 2mm screws!
there are complains that live video out is very dark, would be interesting to see how it actually looks.
I had the same happen to my boscam..The lead wires are broken..And I can't find a place to buy them..Bad issue for sure..

mine does nt recognize the 32 sd card after 2 time use

nice but did not find on the site .
I noticed the bad lagging even when you were flying straight ,I don't think the wing camera is as bad as this imo and that films at 30fps.
Ha Ha, turn on captions! "is the club sweetest punched right on making it very easy to see the sop thrifty villiers"
