    While dangerous, the world wouldnt have these festivals and culture without a bit of risk in life. Awesome shots and video, definitely something I want to see in person.

    Thanks Ryan and Family for another entertaining vlog. My daughter who is in her final year at Mahasarakam University Faculty of Dramatic Arts, specialising in Traditional Thai Dance, went with a troupe of dancers to a rocket festival recently somewhere close by, proabaly on the day before the fireworks. Your vlog with your friends vlog certainly captured the excitement of these events. Glad that you were all safe. God bless you all, always 😀❤🙏

    This event is reminiscent of what America would call a Redneck rocket event. For those who are not familiar with the term "Redneck", it is a large group of people in the rural parts of the country. These are great people with a certain lack of sophistication of modern life but have a huge need to do questionable and dangerous things for entertainment. These are some of the most wonderful people to know.

    Several years ago my wife and I attended the city's fireworks show (not in Thailand). We were on a hotel rooftop at a safe distance away to watch the show and it was entertaining. The next day we were near the water so I checked where the show was launched and I was shocked to see spent/burned cardboard mortar tubes - Yikes! You can find pics of steel mortar tubes which are severely dented from a mishap so you know that cardboard would not contain a spontaneous launch-detonation.

    Watching the different angles of the exploding rocket, it looks like someone didn't release one of the chains attaching it to the scaffold - you can see a pole dangling on the end of a chain or cable as it begins to fall back.

    Kno3 and charcoal which are both pretty course powder. They make their own black powder from scratch. They make their own charcoal out of a certain tree and they grind up the potassium nitrate, which is kno3 , then they press the fuel in with a huge press that’s home made. The wheels are called, garondalias.

    The fuel for rockets is saltpeter and some types of charcoal only. And the use of rockets has been found over 300 years ago. It's very amazing. In the past, only bamboo tubes were used to make rockets.

    the fuel is a combination of charcoal and saltpeter [ no sulfur i believe] and wetted with water to slow the burn somewhat and produce bonus steam for propulsion , the rockets that rise fast and burn short are " core burners " that burn up the centre and out to the case , the slower burning but long burn ones are " end burners " with a restriction in the end of the tube and burn from the bottom to the top

    It's ceremony of E-san aka Notheastern people in Thailand for Pray for rainfall according to their ancient folklore but the most famous place is in Yasothon province. The ceremony begins at the sixth month of Lunar calendar (not fix date like Gregorian calendar) In the past they used bamboo but it is taken place by PVC pipe today. Like other fireworks, they mixed saltpeter & black powder as main materials. The class of rocket is classified by the weight of rocket propellant in Kilogram. such as a Kilo, Ten Thousand (12 Kg.), Hundred Thousand (120 Kg.) and Million (1,200 Kg.). FYI.

  • @iskandartaib
    @iskandartaib ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Been trying to figure out how to organize a trip to watch the rockets for the last few years. Information is pretty hard to come by, it would probably mean renting a car after getting to Isan. It has always amused me that the rockets are blue because they use the common blue PVC water pipe you find in Thailand. The propellant is a mixture of charcoal and fertilizer (ammonium nitrate) - essentially a simplified black powder.

    The "fuel" is gun powder. The objective is to get it to burn, not explode. The competition is to achieve the highest launch for each class (diameter) of rocket and is measured by timing from liftoff to hitting the ground. The largest is usually a 200mm diameter by 4 metre long. Gunpowder packed into the pipe with a hollow of about 30mm up the middle. A spark ignites the powder at the top of the rocket with the rocket restrained until it builds up thrust as the burn moves down the tube.

    • @gertnood
      @gertnood ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is made from scratch using the same constituents as black powder but much more coarse and different ratios, and no sulfur in the big ones. You won't light that stuff with a spark, they fire DC through a pyrotechnic igniter held up in the head end. The competition is for flight duration, not altitude, although altitude is a significant factor, as is the flight path and how it decides to descend.
