The Dark Shift kit along with the expansion set is my daily carry pick kit. I added a set of warded lock picks and a few extra tension tools. Along with a homemade decoder and a couple pieces of wiper insert. Together, those take care of most anything I run into.

Yes I have one and the expansion kit. I must admit I don’t really use the expansion tools much. The hooks I put clear shrink wrap around to add comfort and still see the cool cutouts. I don’t have to use them for real lockouts more than once in a blue moon but they are a nice set for practice when I’m at work and bored.

I just bought this kit as a backup to my regular picks and as a sort of travel kit. For comparison sake, I have the sparrows monstrum XXL, the multipick elite 37, and some various hooks from Peterson in government steel that make up my selection of pics for my workbench. I was honestly blown away at how comfortable the dark shift kit is to use, especially for not having handles. This is my first set of lock picks without handles and I was just astonished at how comfortable they were to use. I'm really glad that I bought them and I would recommend them to anyone looking for a backup or EDC style kit.

I carry the dark shift with the expansion set with the sparrows Rockout jigglers added along with a homemade decoding shim and two southord hooks. Its a bit of a tight fit in the pouch but it fits comfortable in the back pocket.

Its a good comprehensive set, especially with the expansion. And my personal opinion, can't beat those sparrows cases for an EDC option. Great review sir! 👍🏻👍🏻

The two items one might add to the set would be a tiny/flat flashlight, and a small screwdriver good for disassembling locks.
In the case of the kit being a Tuxedo from Sparrows or similar this becomes especially challenging as the case is very flat.
The final thing I add is a plastic shim (NanoPlastic or Mica Sheets). You can 1/2 cut the top end and fold it over the pick points.
This gives you pocket protection from pick pokes and a handy shim/jim if it should be needed. My Tux is boosted with Wizard, Octorake, and Dragon rakes.

Was thinking about the expansion kit but scrap the wafer jigglers, I find the triple peak, worm or city rake even their best buster would pick any wafer lock. That being said I would've liked to see your goat wrench divided into 2 with warded pick ends with one having either tubular tensioner in the thickness your goat wrench came in. Just my opinion stay safe Ash!

I personally love my dark shift set, especially the hybrid profile that I believe is only available in it and the monstrum. Haven't gotten the expansion yet, still on my list. Thanks for the review, I've been wondering how good the wafer picks were.

Understandable...
Very nice review thank you, but there are 2 more things I would add to this kit.
First is a "goat wrench". You see tubular locks everywhere, a bulky tubular impression tool is not feasible as an everyday carry, but slipping a goat wrench in there let's you spp tube locks.
The second item I would add is an offset snake rake, but that's just my own personal thing...I love my offset snake.

I found my old locks now i have only one lock i have not picked , it is an “American 5200”
It is at least 20 years old

I do like the Dark Shift set - got it a couple of weeks ago as my second kit as it filled in a lot of gaps present in my first kit from Southord. I do agree about its deficiencies, certainly... and so far I've not found many keyways I can use the "sandman" profile in.
The expansion kit is cool, but it seems a bit niche in who it's aimed at.
Yeah, the Sandman is a little situational, but i know many who love it
@@LockNoob I'm sure I'll come across something where it's the perfect choice! I'd rather have had a medium hook or a couple of bottom of the keyway tensioners instead, though!
The pick tip at the end of the quick strike tool matches the medium hook in the main set.

@@LockNoob i wouldn't as it makes s great combo hook/rake its well worth a play around with.
I suppose a lot of it depends on taste. My Mrs says, "Looks like something a Klingon would use". Ther more I look at it, she's right.

I use the expansion set with a tuxedo set, still deciding on picking up the whole set.
Both are great sets IMO

What thickness are the picks? It would have been nice to have a double ended combination lock bypass and picking tool included in the expansion.
On the mini jim your really need something more like the paracord on the mini jim in the bomba royal set.

Thanks for the great video Lock Noob but dammit, you're costing me money here. I already wanted the Dark shift set from when you reviewed it. Now you show me the expansion kit? Take it easy on the noobies here :) Thanks again for the review. When I saw the knife tool, the first thing I thought of was maybe dipping the handle in plasti dip to give you a better grip but the toggle that comes with the kit should work just fine. Besides, the handles do look good. I guess you could plasti dip it then trim off the inside so the outer part of the handle is coated.
It can be an expensive hobby! Too many cool kits!

So I've been playing about with the mini jim and I've come to release that it doesn't need to be as mini as it is,
Could probably have a extra 4cm of length on it and still fit nicely in the case for the Darkshift set.

I am struggling for buying this set with the expansion set at the same time or maybe the more exclusive collab set sparrows killermaru.. have the Southord pen for edc and couple of cheap sets that I made compatible with the pen … what Sint-Pietersplein guys think is the best option ? Dark shift or killermaru ?

I like the Dark shift set I think it is well designed for a carry set, but I don't even have a good set of regular picks only cheep ones. It will be a wail before I need a backup set. Why is it that so many people watch your videos but only a few hit the like or dislike button. Very inconsiderate if you ask me.

@@LockNoob it's good for rocking American locks. It's a good tool for just taking a quick crack at something, if it doesnt work ya move down the line of the preferred tools. My Octo rake has a 60% chance of opening a lock on the first attempt. Lots of Master Lock rubbish here.
