Regarding these gaps which we fill in with miraculous stories, I believe they are often times Israeiliyat. Dr. Shabir Ally said the stories we borrow from the Jews and Christians are called Israeiliyat.
That often is the case that the 'ellipses-completion-narrative' is often though not always from the Judeo-christian sources aka the 'Israeliyaat'. What many people miss is the wondrous nature of the Quran that captures the hearts of many yet in different ways with different meanings from the same verses 🙌🏻❤

Mufti you say there isn't really much of a disagreement here, some ppl believe that these things JUST happened and others also believe they happened but with an underlying mechanism. But I think the latter approach can lead to a very different reading of the text itself. As an example , you yourself, in the story of Queen of Sheeba interpret the birds in general and hud hud in particular as some intelligence agents/army or whatever because you cannot accept that birds can have such high cognitive abilities. So, I think the latter approach can sometimes diverge a lot from the "JUST HAPPENED" Approach but ofcourse the central message of the book is unaltered

Adopting a means is rational for a miracle however the relevance is Allahs intervention in the mechanics of Allahs universe. The intervention is special and it functions as an acceptable authentication for prophets. If there are no supernatural miracles then what is the objective proof of messengers? You can believe anything and then there is no such thing as truth! This then opens up the door to using the mind to uncover morality and if you think this is possible then what is the need for God?
"Are these people waiting for God to come to them in the shadows of the clouds, together with the angels? But the matter would already have been decided by then: all matters are brought back to God." 2:210 "Are they waiting for the very angels to come to them, or your Lord Himself, or maybe some of His signs? But on the Day some of your Lord’s signs come, no soul will profit from faith if it had none before, or has not already earned some good through its faith. Say, ‘Wait if you wish: we too are waiting.’" 6:158 God shows many signs, and the greatest sign to this Ummah is the Qur'an. However he only shows soft evidences that will make any sincere and rational person believe. However as God says in 2:210, if God had come through the shadows of the clouds with the angels, the matter would have been settled, i.e. life is no longer a test of your reason-based faith.
Quran is not fill in the blanks what ever it says has hadees to support that verses. One of the greatest miracle of quran is that we can at present witness the prophecy of the quran with the happening incidents of the world.
