    Your college major does not define exactly which way your career will go. However by selecting the right major you can at least optimize your chances of starting in the right field (or related field) that will lead you to your dream career. This video is mainly focused on STEM majors and what to do when there are too many fields that interest you.

    This is the most annoying feeling, GOD. One day I feel very passionate about engineering, math and physics and then the other day I'm thinking about history and research, maybe writing books on interesting historic topics. And then a wake up, and my brain goes " why not do political science, hey international relations are cool, you know a foreign language this should be good".

    • @Nobody-fy7tw
      @Nobody-fy7tw 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Ah same here with same subjects too
      But I have noticed one thing that I get confused between these subjects because I see a lot of interesting TH-cam videos about these topics that's why I get interested in these subjects
      But when I start to read a particular book about a particular subject then I start to feel bored
      So I think at this point that I'm going to focus on my studies now ( which are mainly Maths and Science)
      And I'm preparing for engineering entrance exams too
      If everything goes well then I'm gonna pursue a career in engineering and if not then O don't know what to do

    This is my biggest problem in life... i have avoided college because I love every subject... People always say to ''do what you love'', but I love everything. I study History, Anthropology, Science, Engineering, Sociology, Politics, Economics, Law, I just read about every single subject and I have been building a personal library since I was young, filled with everything from Ancient History to Philosophy to Occult and Theology, all the way to Quantum theory and Finance and technology... I have absolutely no hope of going to college because I know that whatever I study, I will want to study something else within a few months or a year. I wish I could just have every degree. I wish I could just study everything How do people just do one thing, I will never understand that.

      It sounds to me that you would really benefit from a liberal arts college. They're set up so that you can take any class you want, without having to commit to any subject: a real "study everything" philosophy. If that's not your speed, then I recommend checking out your local community college- they generally allow you to take courses at your own pace even if you already have a college degree.

  • @ShawnDypxz

    Well, the thing is once we know what learning, studying, understanding and implementing is, we tend to like many subjects. Same thing has happened to me. I have understood and learned high school Maths, physics, computer science, physical chemistry, biology so vividly that I feel like I can get to any subject and not feel disappointed later. But for lazy students like me, biology and chemistry seems a bit daunting as it involves memorization(there are concepts but still not like computer science and physics) than imagination and understanding. So, Physics and computer science appeal to me more. So at last I am majoring in CS and doing minor in physics.
    Guys, learn to appreciate the beauty of maths. That's what the most important factor to learn physical sciences.

    Go to community college. It saves money and 2 years for skills you gained. For example, associate degree in mechanical engineering , then bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering or computer engineering or electrical engineering or automation engineering.
    Some people dropped out of their bachelor's degree because of its difficulty or disinterested. Money wasted.
    Take your time with your career goals.

    This is a good process for helping determine your college major. Begin by using the process of elimination. Look at a list of the majors. Mark off the majors you know 100% that you do not want to major in. Afterwards, you will have a much shorter list of options. When I did this, I only had one left and that is what I majored in.

    Be like Elon, study what you're most intrested in and dominate in that field then use money generated to dominate all the fields you like. Just choose a field with the highest job opportunities and while you are studying read a lot on the topics that intrest you. Im a EE major with specialty in rf and telecommunications but I also am studying economics and quantitative finance as well as the fundementals of business practices on my own. I'm currently teaching myself how to do an economic analysis and portfolio management using stats and some special calculus tricks from stochastic calculus. I'm doing this because I want to one day own my own business and go as high as I can. Bill gates once said that in his 20s he never took a day off, so I decided to get a head start and from the day I graduated hs at 18 I never took one off. And now I am doing something as a hobby that economics students loose sleep over. I'm starting to notice a heirarchy in the world of the quantitative sciences and careers in general.

    If you don't know what you want to major in for college, you could always start undecided and take a variety of entry level classes for areas you might be interested in to figure out what you want to do. All the better if you start at a community college which is cheaper. Then the classes that aren't in the field of the major you ultimately choose can be used for your gen ed and elective credits.

    Last year I had this exact problem. I was going into med school if I couldn't decide. But I had a feeling there was something better.
    My passions are literally everything, and really can be summarised as giving myself a challenge. I enjoy math, all fields of science, English, philosophy and law, music, art, dance, economics and business, and sports. As a result, I wanted a job that would include majority of those, but I realise now that is unrealistic. Instead I have come to the conclusion that I should create my own job instead of choose one, and so I plan to start a business. However, I want my business to be a pioneer for neural engineering or a similar field. This will not only include my love for biology(especially the brain), but also mathematics, physics and chemistry required for mechatronics, engineering and development, art for design, as well as everything required for developing a business.
    I don't expect to start it right away and plan to use my degrees to work a decent paying job in order to start my business in a financial position.

    there's only a few months left before I can decide what course to take. Since I was young, I really loved engineering and being a scientist. As I grow up, I also wanted to be a chef and a nurse. Last year our class got involved in earth science and geology piqued my interest. I began narrowing down what I really like and then arrived to the point I am stuck between being a radiologist and a geologist. My father asked me why I wanted to take geology. "It is because I wanted to satisfy my curiosity." He replied that I should be more practical. I know he wanted to have a big amount of money but money is not what I am after and since the cause why I wanted to be an engineer, scientist, nurse or radiology, is because I love science and the activities that let you investigate since then. I even thought of studying forensics but I just don't really have a feeling for it. The reason I chose geology over radiology is I can interact with my hobbies I like and it is where I really get fun. I also wanted to stop a year and get a part time job so I can save up for college

    At 19, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to study. My parents pressured and rushed me into college, quickly, I picked Mechanical Engineering and started in Community college. I was doing well with my classes, however, because I didn’t spend enough time studying, my grades were not the best.
    I loved the Mathematics and it felt so natural to me. At the same time, I was dealing with depression, I was not sleeping well, and as a result, my mind was not functioning at optimal condition. I was forgetful, sleepy, couldn’t concentrate, and felt weaker. On top of that, I was dealing with depression. My mind was only showing me hopelessness and negative self-talk. I felt inadequate.
    I switched my major to physical therapy, I was doing well, but if I studied enough, I could’ve been the best. Out of fear of not making it into PT program. I switched to Accounting and Now Finance. When i took Acc. & Fin. I felt like the soul was sucked out of me. I had no desire or passion to study Acc. or Finance.
    I’m 26, and in my senior year in the Finance program, and performing at my worst level. School told me to keep my GPA at the minimum or they will drop me from the program. Currently it is below min GPA and i feel like im forcing myself to study Finance.
    I loved Math & Science and flew away from it bc the money was not high as a great finance major.

    • @varunshah44334v
      @varunshah44334v ปีที่แล้ว

      Finance is a great field. Accounting can get super boring I understand but hey the good news is you are not gonna do a lot of accounting stuff at your job. Except for balance statements, cash flow and P&L there isn't much accounting as a fund manager or investment banker. You just need to know how to read these 3 statements and draw conclusions. You can keep complaining about doing something else and become more dreadful. You took too many decisions without even understanding and keeping a foot in those fields. I bet once you get into engineering you will say the same shit. It also contains discrete, linear mathematics with level 3 calculus which will eat you up. You just need to do what you are doing and need to decide that you are gonna be the god damn best at it. Also Stop taking your life and job so seriously. When you are on your death bed you are not gonna think about your job but the memories you had with your close ones. At the end of the day you are on a floating rock in the middle of no where , like chill out.

    Very realistic video, offering a real concrete solution. I want to add some supportive words: To choose something means to abandon some other things. This is the physical rule, it is better' you accept it before it gets too late... People who has physical intuotion achive to accept this reality and doesnt fight with the facts that he wouldnt change, by no way.. Every one of us try to maximize the opportunity cost. But dont try to be perfectionist until you find exactly your ULTIMATE END GOAL(Zach names it sth like this). Again there is nothing something like perfect choice. Trial and error, elasticity, again this physical/engineering attitude will help you, if you have these you will understand what İ mean.. And recognize that every genius like Einstein, or current geniusses like Terry Tao says that I am weak in algebra and topology! Can you imagine that Mozart of Math Tao accept his weakness in some subfields of Math! And again another current pyhsicist advises to strengthen the strongest part of you! Because by trying anxiously hard, you at most become normal or good in some fields; but recognize that there is already naturally gifted strong guy there and stands on that "good" point by doin almost nothing. And if he tries some hard, he gets all the way up! Be honest to yourself. All the thing is not just about your "interests"(they may come from the psychological roots like desire to be like genius etc.); try to catch the common point between your interests and skills/abilities!

    I am glad to know that I am not the only one who is having this trouble. Right now I am in Grade 11 and I am stressing out because I do not know exactly what I want to do for the rest of my life and my parents keep yelling at me about it. I am interested in nearly every subject, I am planning to take a victory lap so that I can cover most of the courses I am interested in (I spent hours trying to narrow it down just to that point).
    I have been trying to look at it based on what I would actually want to do for a living vs. what I am interested in. I like both the sciences and the arts, but for a job I would go into the sciences. As well, it is my favourite subject. However, it turns out that science encompasses a large array of topics.
    So far I like physics and engineering the most, but the problem is that I do not think I am smart enough to do that. I like business, law, some aspects of biology & medical science, biochemistry, and chemistry.

    I’ve been obsessed with tensors, manifolds and more specifically general relativity since my freshmen year in highschool and I am now going into my sophomore year of college. Managed to take BC calc and calc 3 in highschool and ask my ib physics teacher pretty cool questions about relativity, quantum field theory and maxwells equations. I’d stare at these insane equations hoping I would one day understand them and everyday I inch my way there. At the beginning of my senior year I looked at the integral and differential forms of maxwells equations and had no idea what they meant. In May of my senior year I realized maxwells equations were just vector calculus, surface integral and line integral equations I learned in calc 3 and it was a quite wowing moment realizing how mathy physics really is. My first year of college I took intro linear algebra, differential equations(ODES, systems of ODES, Laplace, Fourier solutions), physics(mechanics with intro to thermo first semester and intro e and m and intro waves and optics second semester)and a stats class which the first half was an intro to graph theory and the second half was combination , permutations and rook polynomials . Next semester I’m taking complex analysis and partial differential and every year I.T just amazes how math changes your view of the world as you learn more. And I.T seems to me at this point at least that all the new math I do learn is some form of the math I’ve learned before either changed slightly or on steroids.keep making new videos they inspire me!
