When she started to talk about Aly Art and the Kibbe body type system I was THRILLED! I've gone down that rabbit hole a couple months ago and I did NOT regret it! It made me understand so much more about my appearance and what looks appealing on me as an individual. Any one else who is confused about what would suit them, I'd recommend checking Aly Art's account out. You won't regret it!! I'm happy to find out that Caitlin liked it too! Yaaaay!

I love clothing and fashion but what you said about what you wear most of the time is your style really hit me because it's so true. Even though I own a lot of nice clothing, being a stay at home Mom I NEVER wear any of it. I wear leggings and a big t shirt everyday because I don't want to ruin/stain/wear out my nice clothing just to stay home and cook and clean.
It does effect my confidence to wear things I don't like wearing 90% of the time. Maybe it's time to invest in some nicer things for around the house, switch leggings for some simple skirts etc.
I love your channel and I relate to you so much!

I think for me, being only 17, I still have a lot of confidence issues to be able to fully dress feminine. For instance, I wore a more fitted top this morning and my mom complimented me saying I looked skinny but I was feeling uncomfortable so I changed into a frumpy sweater. I feel more comfortable but I don't feel my best...I guess like you said, I will have to take this step by step.

Try vintage clothing for inspiration. 1970s is good for feminine but looser fitting styles. Boho would be the newer search term to look for. Lots of skirts and dresses and layering options.

At twenty one I'd say pick one or two things (for now) accentuate those. Don't get hit all ways. Become an expert in these. Also neutrals look classy, colours go more towards feminine. Work to be confident coz it won't happen automatically. Feel free to do it your own either way.

I'm currently curating my own personal style and my top tip for anyone doing the same is to build a Pinterest board of your style icons and the kind of clothes you like or clothes that will suit you. Regularly audit the board and remove anything that doesn't quite fit with the rest until you get a board that has a clear style and feel. Then when you go shopping for new clothes you can pull up your board and ask yourself 'Does the item I'm about to purchase fit with the style of my board?'. It's saved me so many times from making an impulse purchase that just wouldn't fit with my new direction.

Yesss!! No grown-up woman should let trends dictate to her what to wear. Also, trends are just an invention by the fashion industry to make us keep buying new clothes regularly. Once you discover your style and what really flatters your body type, you can also invest in higher quality clothing knowing that you'll wear these pieces for years :)

Im So glad you brought out the point that what’s “in” might not be what’s best for your body type. I hate wearing skinny jeans and pants because I feel like my legs and bum don’t look in them cuz I’m not slim. I just need to slowly get braver in wearing MY style not just what the “fashion industry” says I should wear.

Waking up in a sea of flannel xx)). The thing that helped me a lot was focusing on a signature colour/colour combo. For me, it's white and blue, some grey, with rosegold jewellery. Figuring out your body type is super helpful. I never understood why a lot of things (prints, cateyes, red nails) looked 'too much' on me. Now I know I'm a true classic and these things overwhelm my type. Looking forward to more videos on this topic!!

I got to honest, one of the first videos which I saw by her were about being feminine and how she was traditional and I honestly thought, this wasn't something I would prefer to listen to. I felt that she would (if she knew me personally) judge me for who I am and that thought made me uncomfortable but I couldn't stop watching her videos. She is one of the few people who knows how to put aside her judgements and beliefs and then explains her thought process. She tries to understand the other point of view to the best of her ability. She tries to understand where the other person is coming from, and as a person who has grown up believing that being feminine is weak (and many other things), I really appreciate it.

Your fifth tip quite reasoned with me. I am guilty of wearing lazier outfits on a daily basis (leggings or some random t-shirt) even though I adore feminine clothing and only wear those to special occasions. I need to learn how to build a better day-to-day selection of outfits that are feminine. Thank you as always, Caitlin! P.s. I love your outfit and makeup in this video :)

My dearest Mrs Midwest, you have been such a wonderful influence in my life. I now try to be more wholesome, to take pleasure in small things like gardening, reading, listening to the sound of birds in the morning. Thank you so much for your wonderful videos and input, you have such a way to communicate the important things in life. I have struggled so much with my self love and comparing with others, and now I finnaly feel like I don't need to compare with anyone. And my advice for someone who is struggling with this is: if someone is making you feel inferior, walk away from those feelings. Don't give in to jealousy and comparation, be the bigger person and go live your wonderful life.

I have to say, I totally get the psychological & emotional impact of wearing color & how some colors no longer feel like they suit personal growth, but the shots of you in black tops are stunning. What a freeing thought that you don’t have to be slave to fashion trends! I love your channel Mrs. Midwest, and I admire your truthful and gracious message always!

  • @Wwdancwe690
    @Wwdancwe690 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Yes! I loved learning about the Kibbe body typing system (it is a rabbit hole but a fun one for me) I’m so passionate about it as a step in understanding your lines! I love the idea of leaning in to your natural lines. I think part of the issue people have now with excepting body type advice in guidance is with the basis for those recommendations was always to work against your “flaws”.
There was a perfect body type (the hourglass body type many would say) or face shape (oval) and there was the other body types that needed to compensate for their extremes (too round or square or oblong). Is your face “too round” or your shoulders “too narrow/broad” here’s how to fix that. The fix usually being to soften sharp lines or make sharper cheekbones when your too rounded. Do the opposite of your lines!?
I love that Kibbe emphasizes your own natural lines and it looks great because your natural lines look great on you. Body typing isn’t inherently bad in fact it can be great but what is mistake is working against your lines too compensate for some perceived shortcoming in not being the “perfect body type”. Dressing your body’s lines and your coloring is an instant glow-up. On top of that knowing the essence of your style can level you up!
Like Cate Blanchet may have dramatic lines but dressed as a elf (soft and low contrast ethereal) made her a whole look iconic for Lotr fans. My icon The Duchess of Sussex is a Classic and you can see how her look has become more iconic over the years as she has embraced her coloring, classic lines and femininity in her style all without trying to make her body type into the “perfect” hourglass figure. I am a theatrical Romantic (not a classic or dramatic) I have an hourglass figure but what works for Scarlet Johansson (soft natural) or Sofia Loren (soft dramatic) are not the same just because we have the mythical “hourglass figure”. Natural lines and dramatic (even soft ones) lines are perhaps my worst enemies! So leaning into your coloring, your lines, and whatever style essences draw you to them is beautiful no need to work against them and be afraid that our natural lines are not “ideal” enough.

I'm so glad you posted this! And it was perfect timing. Just yesterday I began packing up my unflattering clothes (which will be going to a thrift store) and I ended the day by looking through family photos. Seeing pictures of my mother from when she was my age is always inspiring to me, but yesterday they stood out even more because they reminded me that I do not have a mature style. And after having a tiny meltdown this morning due to yet another bad hair day, I've decided that it really is time for me to put in the effort to improve. I kept expecting time to magically solve my problems, but time without effort doesn't do anything but waste time! So I'll be looking to you as my "glow-up" tour guide. Lol. I hope you're having a happy Friday ♡

I love Ally art and the Kibbe body system! It suggests material on top of clothes! There's also website called my body model, it's useful for sewing you can draw on top of it- but it tells you where to measure and it's helped me so much with online shopping and helped me be able to express why I don't like something I'm wearing or why I do. I love how they talk about things in terms of "adding visual weight" to vertical or horizontal lines and it helped me realize a love of wide leg pants, skirts, and dresses.

I would say to not give them a reaction or argue with their standpoint, and try to find supportive friends. It helps to follow people interested in style on social media, and to create boundaries with people who want to bring you down. Perhaps too, they might not realize that their statements are hurtful, so sometimes we have to tell those people "hey, when you say that, it hurts my feelings/makes me feel uncomfortable. I would appreciate if you wouldn't say things like that to me." It's okay to be direct with people! Even though you might be scared, it's good to show people you're brave enough to call out their rude behavior... they might even think twice the next time they want to be rude! I hope this helps! Remember that trying to please everyone else is a short road to unhappiness! 💕 💗

One of the ways I transformed my style is where I shopped! 😊 It sounds so simple, but the quality of your clothes and the store environment you shop in makes a major difference in the way you look and ultimately the way you feel. A lovely video once again Caitlin! I do have a personal point about shoes.
As someone with a foot deformity, the only shoes available that are not extremely painful are expensive, shoes that are made for old diabetic ladies or sneakers. And trying to find the intersection of a shoe that does not hurt and doesn't look like it belongs in a nursing home is $$$ so you bet I will wear those to the ground. I wish I could wear cute boots, ballet flats or heels, but I could literally not walk walk in them. So think twice before judging someone on their shoes. One of my favorite trends that I have incorporated is the street-style wearing a skater dress or a skirt with sneakers!

YES to the repurposing clothing! My mom taught me this when I was young and it has always stuck. If clothing is in good condition take it to the thrift store. If not, cut it up and use it for rags or patches. Instead of going out and buying new microfiber cloths to use for wood polish, just use that old t-shirt that's covered in holes!

    Hi Caitlin,
I wanted to post this to you for a while now but it looks like it will be a long ass comment under a fashion related video 😅 This will be quite a long read so brace yourself.
I wanted you to know that I have been a silent follower of yours for a few months now.
You reminded me that I could use my femininity to better present myself to others, to people directly in my environment such as my husband (whom I used to quarrel a lot due to my rebelliousness and brashness), my parents (whom I also had strained conversations due to my harsh and aggressive nature).
You came at a time when I was going down a lower point in my life and since then,
I have been carefully listening to every thing that you have said on self-improvement and femininity, how to present yourself in a graceful way to others and maintain that mindset as the core basics.
I’m still learning but you have helped me so much already.
You always speak the truth and don’t beat around the bush while still keeping 100% focus on the topic at hand.
You don’t stray from the subject while you are explaining things to your viewers and that’s what I like about you.
I like that you are not afraid to tread unpopular or uncomfortable subjects and still find a way to work around it somehow.
This could be fashion, like in this video, but I have watched a lot of your videos about different subjects (marriage, society related, self-expression) and your opinions are opinions that we don’t get to hear much nowadays.
That’s why I relate so much to every thing that you are talking about.
Looking back at my teenage years, I think that I am definitely not the same free spirit that I have claimed to be many years ago.
I say claimed, because I have grown to appreciate traditional value or old values as they are sometimes called.
    I married at 23. I became a mother at 26
At my current 29 years, I now only crave stability and time with my family. Things that really matter.
I am a Turkish woman who is a Muslim.
I used to rebel against my religion and the core values of our Turkish culture.
I strayed from a lot of things and did things in my younger days that I still regret to this very day.
Looking back, I see myself as a a cliche textbook example of where things can go wrong when a teenager has no stable mindset, no values or morals, no sense of danger or fear of tainting herself before adulthood.
I don’t know if you have seen this movie called “Thirteen”.
It is a coming of age sort of movie where it is shown how being a young girl trying to fit in with a certain type of group of popular friends and the lengths she will go to achieve this, can go very wrong.
The character of Traci (main character) really resonated with me in a cold, truthful way.
I want to clarify that I thankfully haven’t done any of the drugs or self-mutilation that she went through in the film.
But I did do other stupid stuff like hooking up with boys, acting like I owned the world and deprave myself as a young girl, a person who could not make sensible decisions and stay true to her morals and values at 14-15 years old.
I brought attention to myself that I was proud of, when the attention was anything but positive.
It was the beginning of a road to self-destruction.
I was no longer a virgin anymore at 17 and I had thrown away whatever self-honor I had as a young girl to sleep with numerous people.
It was pure luck that I met my (now) husband at age 19. He was so refreshingly genuine and kind to me
He didn’t judge me for my past but showed me what real love could be.
Since the first day that I met him, I had held onto him for four years before marrying him.
He taught me a lot of things on love, self-respect and values.
And as a mother, I learned that I want
to give those values to my own children.
I want to raise them religiously but not restrain them. They should learn to grow up with certain principles. I want them to be able to confidently say “no” in a possibly negative decision making situation, whether it is my son or my daughter. Both genders need good values growing up in this world.
And this long ass comment went real deep as my first post that was only meant to say “thank you for bettering me and teaching me about femininity” but I feel that you brought out so much to the surface, things from my past that I am instantly reminded of when I see a good and healthy female role model like you.
I think about what could have been, if I had some self respect as a girl, good core values and an elegant ladylike mind when I was younger. This is just my way of thinking and no one should feel triggered by my opinion. Every person is different.
I just wanted to thank you for a lot of things but mostly for changing my mindset and also for being a good role model for your female audience.
So thank you, Caitlin. I wish you nothing but good things and a wonderful life ♥️
