    I like the boat and I think the lightweight air cooled outboard is perfectly matched to the boat, it's super light and fast enough

    I think that people would buy this if it was sold as a kit with options. Its not as convenient as a kayak but I think it looks 500% more comfortable and stable. I am a thin old man (late 50's) with very little usable padding on my rear end and I cant imagine sitting very long in a kayak. We have 3 and I've never been tempted to try one. My kids will not have to share with me! You have a great thing there. Truly a bit of genius. Very well done!!

      Thanks Seth. I'm sure that someone out there could make a mark 2 version which could be sold as a kit. As for me, I'm 68, so going back to sitting in a kayak isn't something on my horizon.😁😁👍👍

    That is a great boat. Genius idea. Ive commentes here before but I came back to watch this again. The second time around my feeling is that my wife would kick me out of the house if I spent my time inventing rhis. I would probably have nobody on my side either. Meanwhile, I hooe this guy makes this into a kit and makes a bunch of money.

    I want to get into boating but need a way to transport a boat in a smallish car. Been looking at the Fliptail DIY folding boat. I'm hoping to do a solar canopy trolling motor kinda setup.

    really nice. I can suggest to put your bolts half way up the bulkhead (with some reinforcing) above the water line. I made a similar boat and I first thought of using a parallel clamp to hold the two sections together, but then I decided to make the boat into a clamp.

    Thanks for sharing this fun project, Den. I also am building a take-apart to fit in the SUV, but I like your design much better! I way over-engineered mine (as usual), and had mine with the tub being a short one-piece, as were the pontoons going to be. That has changed! Fortunately, I am still in the drawing stages, and the ideas you have provided have not only simplified everything, but your quick construction demonstration has cut my build time to probably 1/3 to 1/2 of what it would have been, And, being 8 feet long instead of 4-1/2 is REALLY the cat's meow! I will make the front piece longer than yours, and a bit narrower than the main tub so they nest together, because the inside of my SUV is shorter than yours. I will make the bulkheads where they connect shorter as well , to allow moving from the front to the back easier. This old man isn't so limber anymore, and the front section will be long enough to make it worth it, especially when my wife is onboard. I think I may use 4 pontoons instead of 2. Your videos came just at the right time: God has a way of doing that!
    Now I'm thinking to make the pontoons collapsible...

      There is no License needed in NSW (Where I live) as it is being used at less than 10kts. If it is a tender for a larger vessel, you don't need to register it. As far as using it as a fishing boat in NSW, I think you do need to register it.
      After watching this, I will build another tender using some of your idea. I love your design. I think I will be using foam and completely covering the hull with PMF.
      Den, Again, Love the build!

      @@deanowens334 Thanks Dean. I'm glad you found my video helpful and I hope your new boat works as well as mine. One thing that I have found is if you're always going to be using your boat during the day that you just need a trolling motor in one large lightweight solar panel of the same voltage as the trolling motor and then one very small lithium iron phosphate battery that could be as small as 5 amps which is what I use to go between the solar panel and the trolling motor. And your solar panel will run your motor all day long and you can use a much more powerful trolling motor than your gasoline motor. And I would imagine that your boat would actually come close to planning pretty well with even like a 30 lb trolling motor.

    The concept of the same total weight but being divided into many peices each individually lighter is genius. I would have been tempted to make the whole thing be one fold-out piece but it's really better to have the separate pieces that you attach for that reason. Then you're never lifting all the weight at once.

  • @tcriti
    @tcriti ปีที่แล้ว

    I just discovered this and I am amazed by your ingenuity. Curious if you’re still using the boat and wondering how it’s holding up after a year of use. If I may make one suggestion - build a roller platform (PVC pipe maybe?) that sits in the back of the car that the boat can slide on making it that much easier to pull out and push in.

    • @FishingwithDen
      @FishingwithDen  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Tom. Thanks for your comments. I'm afraid I don't have the boat anymore as I had a couple of medical issues, (nothing serious) which meant I didn't take it out much. I wouldn't want to take it out on a raging river, large lakes in a high wind or into the sea, but on the occasions that I used it, it did seem to hold up well. As for rollers, I'm sure that would work. Having said that, I didn't find it difficult to get the boat out of the car, so for me, it was fine. I imagine there are lots of other ideas people may have to improve the boat, so I'm glad I have given everyone some food for thought.

      Thinking about it further, in non planing configuration, you could make a hydrodynamicaly clean clip on aft section to reduce drag greatly and improve economy, reduce load on the motor, operating more like a proper dispacement type hull.
      Then, if you wanted it to plane, leave that off and go to a larger outboard.

    As desploying goes, not much faster than an inflatable with wheels and airdeck but obviously has quite a few advantages in packing away and manhandling plus you get a proper seat with storage in it. I am curious how will it handle some waves. I used once that kind of outboard, oh the agony of those 5 km! Mate, if you start losing your hearing, is not the age is that outboard.

    • @FishingwithDen
      @FishingwithDen  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would be interested in how it handles waves too Ovidiou. Having said that, I have designed it for places where there is little or no boat traffic. For example, I want to take it up a river which has shallow places that are only 10cm deep. I might take it onto a larger lake, but only if the winds are relatively light. I did try crossing my own boat wake after a sharp turn and it hardly noticed the waves, but that is not really a good test, so I will have to wait and see.

    easiest build ever, just make yourself a wardrobe and add some draws and some space for hanging stuff lol , no really it is a good build and a great idea for carting it to your camping spot for fun times
