    Ok now THIS is the exact kind of content I wanted to come across. I’m a beginner learning about repairs and I’ve got pretty good at replacing components/micros soldering, but I’ve never really like the whole “blind swapping” of component. Just like how I used to get in trouble for asking my maths teacher too many questions, I don’t want to be told something is something, I want to know why something is something, so swapping components on a whim never really felt like real fault finding. I have a water damaged switch I was trying to repair for my boss that wasn’t docking, and now suddenly wont boot after being left for a month, this will definitely help with diagnosis. Time to get a bench supply I think.
    Thanks, great video!

    Thank you for the work, the best diagnose video for switch. If I may ask you a question. The vsys line draws around 0.5a on my lite. Using ipa to detect heat showed me only one spot and thst is the APU. It gets hot on the lower left corner of the silver part on the APU the one where nvidia is written on. Is this a dead short of the apu?

    • @RetroSix
      @RetroSix  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Could be normal it does pull that sign a screen. Without a screen though that's too much and likely BGA balls underneath shorting or bad APU

      @kurtvongurt758 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@RetroSix thank you for being so kind and taking time for an answer. I really appreciate that! If I may ask you an ongoing question? It is just the pcb without battery etc. In your video you said it should pull nearly 0a otherwise look for hot areas. Also when I plug in a Usb meter. The meter makes infinit restarts. Diode readings are good on m92 and bq. Fuse all works. That would then likely mean broken connections under the APU right?

    • @RetroSix

      I have several now with presumed bad eMMC until I find more ways to confirm it (if RCM isn't an option as model is too new) as rebuild eMMC isn't a thing yet either. I've found eMMC boot stages now on a wiki that help at least confirm working eMMC and the more I test the more confident I will be if it's a solid test for bad eMMC or not

    I realize that this video is now years old, and this probably isn't relevant anymore, but at 24:17 you can see a stray solder ball on the left side of the EMMC. I wonder if that rolled out from underneath the chip?

  • @briannicolleau55

    Hi, thanks for the video.
    I tested your way, and I got all good voltages on the main regulator, I got all good voltages (1V) en the bottom secondary regulator, and the left regulator I get 0, nothing.
    The switch doesn't past second boot (always stays at 0.2A).
    Symptoms: Black screen, backlit on.
    It feels like bad emmc, but I'd like to have your opinion.
    Thankfully this switch is hackable so I'll get to try this way in the future.

    • @RetroSix
      @RetroSix  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely sounds like eMMC or the bottom regulator under the CPU. Easy test use use the fuse.bin file that loads the screen up without needing second stage boot. If it's just bad eMMC then fuse will load and show

    Hey man, can you help me? So, after installing hwfly v5 on a v2 Switch and the hekate software, when I try to do the first steps, which include the eMMC backup, I receive the message "Fail to initialize the eMMC, the eMMC is initialized in slower mode." So, what should I do?
    1. I tried reflowing the eMMC, but it was unsuccessful.
    2. I attempted reballing the eMMC, but it didn't work either.
    3. I purchased a new eMMC from AliExpress, but still no success.
    4. I removed the hwfly and placed the eMMC back in its original location on the motherboard, but now I see a pink screen.

      Thanks a lot for the videos on repairing the nintendo switch.
      I would like to ask a question, i hope you can have time to answer. After watching your videos i came to the conclusion that my Switch has a bad M92T36, but the charging port looks ok. Can it be a just a bad M92T36 and the port still be fine ? What are the causes that IC to get faulty ?
      Thank you

      @@valmonta3647 The MT92 is responsible for negotiating with a USB-C device for higher voltage charging. The best way to quickly test that is diode mode, red probe to ground, and probe with the black probe around the capacitors of the MT92. A faulty MT92 almost always results in one or more of those capacitors beeping permanently on both sides of the cap not just one.

      Not without patching the console or cloning a known fully working eMMC

      @RetroSix I have quite a few motherboards what didn't come with emmc-s due to data security reasons, is there any way I can recover them to working boards with atmosphere? Thanks

      It's not possible unless you already have a copy of the eMMC that came with that switch to clone the internal ID
