I used direct drive on a 1lb ant weight using a brushless 2205 2400kv but I used a silicone wristband tank treads. Basically using 1cm tall "wheels" it could go 20 mph with 6 times the skid-out torque. Really fun bot to drive. Box rush king.
What about a transmission? I was thinking about making a robot to investigate autonomous driving, I figure it might be nice to have the bot shift into higher gears, maybe top out around 25mph.
Hardly any electric vehicles have a transmission because what's the point? Electric motors give you all of the torque at low speed and all of the speed at high speed. That's kind of the whole point of a transmission and electric motors naturally do it. Just get a big enough motor to accelerate your vehicle properly and that reaches the speed that you need
Yes Bloodsport uses the P80 as a first stage reduction but followed by a chain reduction as well. The 8x is brand new and we haven't tried it yet but we have our eyes on it. Tbh we never had a gearbox fail though only the chain or tires ever failed
@@JustCuzRobotics thank you. Looking to design my own hw. The banebots gearboxes seem a lot easier to come by than the alternatives, apex dynamics ones for example.
These are top quality videos, oozing with detail and stuff (we love stuff).
Thanks for taking the time to feed our bot-addiction! :-)

Does bloodsport use Banebots P80 gearbox for drive motors? Is P8X worth it?

@@JustCuzRobotics Thanks for the help. Banebots has P8S, P8H, and P8X. Did you use P8H? its the medium durability one
