Poor little old "ATSUN" pickup truck is running only on 3 cylinders the whole time. Thanks a lot for uploading and sharing this great series. Best regards luck and health in particular.
It's such a marvelous running gag. In one of the books, Precious Ramotswe has to renew the insurance/registration on the truck. In the blank for the vehicle's value, after a moment's consideration, she writes, "Sentimental."
@maryanneslater9675 Dear maryanneslater 👍👌👏 😁😁😁 Thanks for telling me. 2) In the real world her "boyfriend" (the master mechanic with his own shop) wouldn't let her drive this unreliable vehicle without fixing the engine first. At least if it was my "girlfriend". Best regards luck and health in particular.
I love this series. It’s one of the few shows where the adaptation quality is on par with the books! I watched this when it was originally on HBO and it’s still wonderfully done now. I had hopes that season 2 was going to happen since the set’s still up in Gaborone (last I checked online). But Mingella’s passing derailed the plans to go further. I’m glad the show’s up here so that more people can appreciate its brilliance and check out the books! 😁
I have never been to Africa but after reading all the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency books Botswana is one place I'd really want to see. The episodes are terrific but the books are even better.
I am so enjoying the series Glen. Will wait a year or so before I read the books. Nice to hear that the written word is just as brilliant. Cheers for that.
Fantastic comedy! And cases to be investigated. I love how the Hair dresser and Mechanic get involved to help their friend. I really enjoy watching the Secretary come Assistant Detective, her over the top character of right and wrong but more so her loyalty to her employer. Thank you for sharing ☆
The HBO Season 1 only covers the main themes of the first 5 books and it did a wonderful job though books are always better than what can be done on TV. So far there are 20 books in the No. 1 Ladies Detective series with the latest book released in 2020. If you are curious about what happens with all of Mma Ramotswe and Mma Makutsi's adventures, get the books and you won't be disappointed!!
@@miriamivy7991 Barnes and Noble have them which I will get my 1st one from. I saw them online as well. Check around though I heard you can get them from EBay but I am not an EBay shopper.
So many great South African actors and actress I recognize in this series. Together lady who was talking to Jill Scott that had the headwrap pn. She Is a great actress.
Alexander McCall Smith is the best kind of storyteller - he can mix the comedy of the human condition with great human pain. It's fascinating to me to see how he handles this storyline - the pain on the face of Precious when Patel asks her if she's a parent and says "a childless woman must take the word of a parent." Her only child died. The theme of the young child hurt or lost continues when she learns about the kidnapped child in the car. And the end was not what I expected. Telling the client his wife was acting for the good of the son was an unexpected and compassionate act. Of course he knew the odds were it was not the truth - but Precious acknowledges what has happened in a way that allows the man something essential to his humanity - she allows him to save face. And probably save his marriage as well, at least for his son.
I enjoyed watching the series when it was on TV and I am delighted to rewatch it now. I read some of the books but I love to hear the accents and expressions. Thank you for uploading.

Immediate enchantment with the actors bringing the stories to even more life! There aren’t many movies I like better than the books, but these I do. I think it’s because the video brought the Botswanan lifestyle, culture and geography to life - another form of learning! Thank you! I read there is no plan for a Series 2. That is disappointing. I found the mysteries and their solutions fascinating - a bit of Sherlock with some extra twists.

When I found the tv series, I loved it all the more! When I realized the BBC had cut off the series, I just remembered how often they have done that very thing to other series in the past.
