Who's watching in 2024? Wow, hats off to Jill Scott for singing in Setswana and sounding like a Motswana. Shows the respect she has for other people's languages. She must have spent a lot of time learning and practicing. As a South African Motswana, I'm impressed 😊
I would have never guessed she is an American - this series was also on German television called "Eine Detektivin für Botswana" -in German, so I never knew the original title - so grateful for the upload
How I wish there's more to this series. So sad it only has 1 season. This is a total breath of fresh air compared to the usual Hollywood detective series.
I was SO pissed off when they didn't renew it. I so rarely really love a fiction tv series unironically. They put so much thought into this production, just superlative. I try to turn as many ppl onto it as I can xx
Jill Scott played the HELL out of this role.!! She's magnificent as Precious Ramotswe. She a natural and if I didn't already know she was American, I'd swear she was Botswanan. Such a perfect and natural performance.

The books are so funny and full of gentle but persistent humor they will have you chuckling away! This pilot was one of the best, truly! No car chases, gratuitous vulgarity and violence, shock value gruesome murders, voyeuristic lasciviousness, everybody having sex with everybody else soap opera self-inflicted drama, neurosis, sarcasm between close people, artificial stoicism, unending on your seat tiring suspense, overly loud and obnoxious sounds, and other depraved audio visuals of the typical American fare that Hollywood thinks audiences want. I stopped going to movies to be manipulated like that. By contrast, this is as gentle and refreshing as a summer breeze full of promise and enriching. The characters are so endearing, the interactions humorous, every mystery solved, justice and order prevail, relationships bloom, nature is always close by and pervades every scene, life has a rhythm and people fit into it. I love this series so much. They should bring it back. Jill Scott and Anika Noni Rose are superb. Thank you for uploading, very grateful!
Yes, but now you have the environment and aesthetic of African Cottagecore in your memory and there are many books in this series. I recommend noshing on some jollof rice, roasted veggies, and fruit while reading.
Jill in an interview said the writer and producer both died and the show wasn't supported by anyone else to continue. Sad outcome for such a great series! 😔
I adore this series...such a shame it didn't continue. The characters are interesting and wonderfully performed. I enjoy the lack of Hip sarcasm and cynicism that is endemic in American content.
I remember watching this series when I was young with mother and I made sure not to miss an episode. It's an amazing show that should have continued and should have been recognized as a cultural celebration. I love it till this day especially Ms Jill Scott herself. ❤️
I just loved this series. I am not sure I ever saw the "pilot" which was a movie, until now. I, like 1000's of others, never understood why they cancelled this delightful series after only 6 episodes, when literally worldwide, fans have wanted more.

I watched these episodes about 3 years ago. In this pandemic , I am watching again. Jill and Anika are excellent actors. I wish this series would have continued. The scenery is beautiful.
I got started on the series when I stumbled upon it at the library. 18 books later... oh what a ride! I highly, highly recommend if you loved these episodes, you find the books, and enjoy the rest of the adventure. ❤️
I came back and watched the pilot after the first session of shows; I can not provide enough praise over the reality of its content and the excellent story telling... truly in the African tradition of story telling! I hope we will see more of this series... House of king David -- Peace and LOVE

I am the same. Saw the series some years ago and have been wanting to visit Botswana ever since (also more seasons of this amazing tv show). By the way, I'm 71 and still hope to get there one day. I just saw the film "A United Kingdom" about what happened near the end of British control there (late 1950s/early 1960s)... illuminating! If you can get it, watch it - you won't be disappointed!
Glad to have come upon this wonderful gem if a movie. Absolutely love the No. 1 Ladies Detective books and couldn’t tear myself away from watching this. Excellent actors, stunning scenery, wonderful music and totally charming. The first book is beautifully realized here!☀️💚🧡💛🦒🦓

I just finished reading the first volume of this series and am currently reading the second. Utterly charming. I had no idea this had been made into a series. Done very well, too! I share Precious' opinions of the modern standards (ie little to no standards for young people). The shame of it is that they have no idea what as been stolen from them - first and foremost a sense of brotherhood with their fellow man, and dignity.
I am going to visit for Botswana Africa hopefully the end of August when does summer has ended that is my dream that is my goal and I'm going to take a vacation and it's going to be absolutely beautiful

I had read the first few books and found this TV version a few months ago. So many have commented as to why it was not continued - because the two originating producers, one of them American Sydney Pollack, the other British director Tony Minghella, both died within months of each other in 2008. Those left could not find funding to continue the series.
This is as good as the books. As someone who has lived in Africa, this is so remanisant of Africa. I just loved this series. Thank you to all involved with creating it.🙌
this is such the treat - the music, the fabrics, the colours, the story. I read some of the books long ago, but words can't do justice to the beauty of Africa if you've never been there
Loved this series from the first, am now rewatching. Anika Noni Rose created a wonderful character in Grace Makutsi, she’s adorable, with a kind heart and great characteristics, one of my favourite characters of all time.

The BBC was involved ... they have a pretty lengthy history of not recognizing a good series when they've got one.

Delightful! Whenever I'm feeling low, I listen to one of the audiobooks in this series. This film is exactly what I picture.

The books are even better ... very evocative, and the kindness, hard work and gentility epitomises Botswana to a T! I was born and raised there.
