    Great analysis on the logo design. Beijing 2008 logo is actually the shape of ancient Chinese seal or a printing stamp, which is similar to a signature in Ancient China. The human figure is derived from the Chinese character ”京”, (pronounce jing) abbrev. for Beijing. The stamp logo is like a commitment by China to the whole world. Also it symbolizes the posture of athlete runner finished racing line. It tells you significance of the culture.

The games went for an actual brand and it truly was outstanding. Even the mascots put sports first and truly excited the younger generation.

      100% agree. Plus the only not egoistic logo. It’s not about Tower Bridge, not about Big Ben, not about the Queen, not about London. The logo is about 2012 - the year of the 30th modern Olympic Games when the athletes of the world came together. The emphasis is on togetherness in a certain time, not about one city, one tiny part of the world.

    The Montreal '76 logo is in the shape of a red maple leaf, the national symbol of Canada. Google "Seven Sisters of Moscow" and you'll understand the meaning of the Moscow 1980 Olympics logo. No mention of the boomerang in the Sydney logo? The boomerang is a traditional tool of the Indigenous peoples in Australia. The symbol of the Athens logo is a laurel, which is a wreath worn on the head as a symbol of victory. It's what Greek athletes would have been crowned with upon winning their competitions in the original Olympic games. The Beijing logo is the Chinese character "jing" stylized to look like a running person. The Tokyo logo is based on ichimatsu moyo, a pattern of design from the Edo period of Japan.

    The Montreal 1976 logo is truly underrated. The first to actually use the rings in the design which influenced every city afterward. So simple and yet it contains a podium, a running track and the letter M but even more interestingly, Montreal got it's name from Mount-Royal, a small mountain next to downtown which has three peaks, as does the logo. Very cool!

    • @RobertJW
      @RobertJW ปีที่แล้ว

      The rings in the design only really happens a few times after Montreal - Moscow incorporated the rings into their colour scheme, and after that London does so very clumsily in the 0, and Atlanta uses the rings extremely well for their column. Montreal's design is definitely underrated, but its use of the rings is not nearly as influential as you've claimed.
