We Found an XJ with the AW4/242 xfer case: Up here in the rusty northeast we bought a parts Cherokee xj (hit hard drives side rocker, stripped out no doors/hatch) with the AW4 and 242 fulltime capable transfer case, I had taken a video of it in the snow while my son was driving it in the backyard after we had a 6" snow storm, it sort of crabwalked backwards, they must be pretty rare, we did come across only one more 242 transfer case, the rest were 241's- We enjoy your XJ/MJ video's keep them coming out!
Lol, don’t think Dex means the 5.2 and 5.9 aren’t any good, just that they don’t die easily and thus don’t sell good. Has actually scrapped some 5.2s due to having tooo many. 😳😳😳😳😳
Yep owned many 318 / 360 . And modify 340 in a charger 👍🏻 plus 383 👍🏻in 2 Dodge Hardtops 68 models owned 2 318 poly Dodge’s 66 model actually I love the 318 Poly they have one of the best exhaust notes 👍🏻 except my 1980 360 AMC FSJ with the t/ flight man that thing has a awesome exhaust note and pulls like a train . Iv owned 3 TJs 2 new plus I still use my 98 TJ also we still have 3 XJ in good order going great . Sold 3 other XJ which I wish I didn’t let go 🤔. Anyway MOPAR for life 👍🏻🇦🇺.
Dex you truely know your Jeep parts to be able to mix match pieces the way you do 👍👍 I really enjoy this type of video showing the process that you go through . Looking forward to seeing the rest of this conversion
@@fastinradfordable it has a good 4.0 in it now. Probably around 15 total inches of lift too. I bought it in 2005. Just been playing around with it since I rolled it over on an icy road about 8-9 years ago
You need a drill chuck and a center drill for the live center. Drill a small tapered hole to center the taper in. This is why you see holes in the end of shafts. It's not like a wood lathe where you can just stab the point into the material. Warm parts will measure larger. Make sure it's cool.
Honey, I told you I saw this guy tryin this transmission conversion. I'm not going crazy!!! LOL!! And the look on your brothers face about 27 minutes in, and yet again later on. priceless.
Hey Dex, my name is Devin Bunn, I live 20 miles east of Atlanta. Found your channel two days ago, and have been binge watching at work and at the house for over a day now. I've been riding 4 wheelers and dirt bikes since I was 4, I'm 29 now. Me and a couple friends of mine call our group team neglection. We have a yt channel under that name, watch a couple of our videos. I think I'm the roughest of the group, but we aren't as ruff as you. I ride rail buggy, sxs and 4 wheeler on the channel. I just was gifted a yj by my grandad, and now I'm tryin to get started "mod" ing it. LoL. We would love to come up there and hit a trail with yall, I'll jump some banks in my buggy. I came to your most recent video hoping that you would see this comment, make more riding videos, you got good content, just not enough trail videos. I want more!
very cool, engineering a solution to something just because you want to and you think it can be done. ... and you have a surplus of something that is undervalued. awesome

@Haterkilla4717 the cam spacing, lifter angles and shape of the Dom in the cylinder heads along with the passage ways for the intake an exhaust, because of the lifter angle change, supposedly to help flow of air and exhaust but the old heads don't fit the magnum but the reverse will work,
I put an AW4 (99 XJ) in a CJ7 4.2 and kept the D300, wired in the trans controller and it worked without the tcase speed sensor Just to answer your question on whether or not it needs that sensor
We was taught in high school cut a little off the side thats going in the chuck then put it in the chuck them center drill it.not tap with a hammer because like you said the metal isnt perfect so you make it perfect.
For learning on your own, just walking away with all appendages is good. It could have been done the first day, I've mad some wild stuff on a lathe and mill
can you make a tutorial on how to pull 1991-1996 xj engines? It’s crazy how fast you can pull them and i’d love to learn all your tricks so if mine messes up i can just pull the thing :)
With chevy transmissions, you pull the converter back to keep from breaking the trans pump! Idk about the AW4 but id say the pump is in the front also?
I’m curious why you wouldn’t weld a plate in between the 2 halves of the bell housing? That would allow for more weld and it would make sure the 2 halves would flat and square with other
save yourself the headache of motor mounts. Incase you didnt know(You probably do) advance adapters sells the magnum motor mounts for the frame of TJ wranglers. Its like $170
In his experience, the 5.2 and 5.9 usually outlast the vehicles. Typically has a surplus of 5.2 engines and can come up with 5.9 engines. **Broken Durangos and Dodge pickups are usually cheap, with good engines. 😊😊😊
Couple of things. A running/driving 2.5 Wrangler isn’t worth $2500. Good job selling just the motor/trans/t case for that. Second, I thought this was a video I could recreate in a junk XJ I have. Bummer
