I've never seen nor heard League get down on the bass like that, and I've seen them live! In the great city of Nashville, no doubt. City Winery 2016. Got to meet Shaun Martin after the show! I told him that I could listen to him bend pitches all night. He told me I should stick around for the 2nd show because it was only gonna "get worse." How I wish I could've.
the more I listen to them, the more I hear the dynamic volume changes each player is capable of. all of them work to raise and lower as a group and individually to create what seems to always be a perfect drive. it's truly incredible.
I just love the way Mike gets so into the vibe. It takes over mind and body, spirit I take for granted. I saw SP at the Royal Albert Hall, London last night. Different from this, but still excellent.
Not want to be pretentious but, had the chance to listen this in Berklee College music hall. I was happy to listen to it with a talented crowd, who can clap at the right time, and sing real well.
Hey Michael! Search "FUNKADELIC JAMMING HITS 070" here on youtube, and you will hear how the groove Im talking about was inspired. This is ole skool 80's Funk!
The main melody is in 7/4. The whole song is in 7/4 I think. Or you can think of it as a measure of 4 followed by a measure of 3. Either way the main phrase is in 7. When in doubt just count especially on slow songs like this one. But you have to know what to count. In this case you count the quarter note, which is what the audience was clapping at the beginning.
If you're gonna play odd time, please don't excessively bob your head like you're playing the most difficult fucking song in the world. Not in any way undermining their talent here, but to me, they're coming off as a bit pretencious.
Really???...don't bob your head..bobbing is pretentious???...soooo not bobbing the head would be more authentic...it would be easier to just admit you're jealous than making up some reason to complain.

Every couple of months I come back to this video for strength and inspiration. Works every time.
This was the first ever Snarky Puppy video I’ve ever seen. Pretty much the reason why I got into them in the first place.
WHY is nobody talking about 6:56 ?? Everything about it is perfect, it feels sooo damn good!
Fuck yeah
I just love the way Mike gets so into the vibe. It takes over mind and body, spirit I take for granted.

Michael's musical genius is so vast it has its own gravitational pull.

Bill Laurance's face at 2:21 tells you all you need to know about that groove. Sickening.

Not want to be pretentious but, had the chance to listen this in Berklee College music hall. I was happy to listen to it with a talented crowd, who can clap at the right time, and sing real well.

Paul Herry-Pasmanian The pog !
Paul Herry-Pasmanian Phase 90??
EHX POG2 & Pigteonix Envelope Phaser
Barry2theB could you explain the slow down 777-9311
I am a high school musician slowing trying to grasp concepts of music like this.
Hey Michael! Search "FUNKADELIC JAMMING HITS 070" here on youtube, and you will hear how the groove Im talking about was inspired. This is ole skool 80's Funk!

There's actually a part that's in 4/4 at 4:11 and it repeats later in the song :)
It's 7/4
Great !!
Celebrity!
What song is this?
Michael is going on at 7:37
holy fuck!!
its just a POG ??
I think it's an EHX POG 2
anybody know the bassist name?
6 years later : Michael League
right 777-9311 in slow motion.. :-)
7:45 Donna Lee quote
OUCH!
PureFunkkunFeruP
Isn't it killing?!
Funkalicous
Is that Maynard from Tool on the keys? lol
Also, drummer wtf @3:28 keep solid time man
I know....lol
What time signature is that?
It's in 7/4.
Close enough ^^
You can still count in 14/8 though; it's just easier to feel it in 7. Has more of a groove.
Ben Papsun I searched for sheet music, and the only thing i found counted it as 3 bars of 4/4 + 1 bar of 2/4, but 7 makes more sense to me as well
I wonder if people could just play, play well, and not look goofy....?
If you're gonna play odd time, please don't excessively bob your head like you're playing the most difficult fucking song in the world. Not in any way undermining their talent here, but to me, they're coming off as a bit pretencious.
Haha...what?
***** By that logic, were they having less fun during the 4/4 part?
No.
Really???...don't bob your head..bobbing is pretentious???...soooo not bobbing the head would be more authentic...it would be easier to just admit you're jealous than making up some reason to complain.
Bobbing your head is also a way to get into the rythm. That's all.
