Even as a beginner, I would say that due to all the redundant influence directed to the same place, instead of spreading it out more, he has insanely strong influence at those 55 points, and almost zero influence to anything else on the board. So white captured the corners not just to gain area, but to aim blacks walls toward the already strong area that it had decided to give up on anyway. So white had a lot of gain, with basically no loss.
actually the sequence at 18:40 is wrong, white has to make the exchange on the second line before connecting to the peep because otherwise white is not alive if b doesnt extend along the bottom but instead continues the attack with 18-12. very nice videos btw :)
