    ** PS: I NEED YOUR HELP **
    My goal is to better the lives of #onemilliondogs in my lifetime. It is clearly impossible for me to do this on a one to one basis. I have seen that with around every thousand views on my videos, I get a comment or email thanking me and letting me know the video has helped. So working on that basis, I have to make videos on how to address every problem
    behaviour and accumulate ONE billion views in order to help 1,000,000 dogs.
    You can help me reach #onemilliondogs by (1) subscribing to my channel and (2) give this video a thumbs up - so TH-cam suggests this video to more dog owners and we can help 1,000,000 dogs all over the world. Thank you so much!
    ** THANK YOU **

    Thank you for your videos Nigel, they are trully refreshing! Real dogs, with real problems that we all struggle with. I particulaly love how you remind us it can take 30+ repeats, or x number of weeks, or whatever the case may be. Please continue to do this in your future videos. It reminds us to keep going in baby steps, to have realistic expectations, and to trust in the process.

    This is going to help my black lab Loki a great deal. In my efforts to socialise him, I've inadvertently made him assume EVERY dog he sees is there to play with him... Without distractions his recall is ok, but when other dogs are present he's away if not on the lead. Your video on protective behaviour was instrumental in calming his barking out the window quickly and easily, so I'll definitely be following the teachings in this video as well. Thank you.

    This lesson makes so much sense and I am going to begin this with Emma right away. My other dogs were well trained to return immediately, but were food oriented so it was easy to teach them to come when called. I believe Emma will be happy to learn with praise as a reward. I never intend to have her off leash but one time her harness broke and she needs to come when called for her safety. Thank you !

    This video did help me a lot. I am in charge of a 2 1/2 y.o. pit bull most days and cannot go to many parks with him so I cannot socialize him the way I'd like. I've been watching videos on training that seem to be encouraging. Thank you.

    Great video, I found what I was looking for. Also, it's the first video I pressed the Like button after being asked. It's because he asked in the end of the video, not at the beginning as so many others. And he truly humbly asked. No one does it.

    Great Stuff Mr Reed! After years of borrowing our friends' dogs, we're getting our own rescue at the weekend. A 5 yo German Shepherd. You're videos are great training - more for us than for the dog..

    Thank your for these informative videos. I can see I’ve been lax with rewarding my dog’s recalls recently and will step that up while she is on lead now. We trained our dog to to come when she was a puppy and after the terrible two’s here recall has been pretty good, EXCEPT when there is food or the scent of another animal. When people have picnics and/or leave discarded food in the ground in parks it becomes impossible to get her back even with treats. Likewise the other day she caught the whiff of some critter and I lost her in the brush on the slope of the park for almost 45 mins. She wasn’t responding to treats and I didn’t feel confident leaving her in this type of situation (though I have used the leave tactic when she plays hard to get in the park).
    I didn’t reprimand her when I got her back. I simply carried her all the way home and put her in her crate when we got there. She seemed to understand but I fear that over the three minute walk home, she’d probably forgotten what this was about. What does a dog owner do in these types of situations please?

    • @nigelreed
      @nigelreed  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Deena, you can't do much in that situation bar what you did. Rather it's about setting yourself up to teach her the response each day in stages.

    • @deenadenaro8365

      Thank you. I’m carrying treats more vigilantly each day now and working on rebuilding her recall. Cheers.

    Nigel - another great video , so clearly illustrated I find it amazing it hasn’t got a lot more views . It’s obvious to see the dog’s learning curve , and I just wondered how many sessions on average it will take you to achieve the same results but with the owner of the dog in control ?

    • @nigelreed
      @nigelreed  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Chris, Glad you enjoyed it. On average a couple of weeks 2 sessions a day but each dog is different. Woody took me 3 weeks - 3 sessions a day.

    My husband is not very steady on his feet & uses a cane. He likes to walk the dog, but I'm trying to make sure the small, but strong, dog does not pull him over. Your video about the out-of-control shepherd amazed me. i tried walking our dog in the house, as you suggested. He's treat motivated! Overnight, he got what I wanted him to do. I will continue to work with him, but he is already doing much better. Thank you SO much!

    Thank you for your videos. They do help me. I have a rescue dog Beau, I rescued him at 8 months and he is now 14 months. He wasn't socialised as a young puppy and I have had to train him from scratch. Pulling on lead is a problem, he reacts when he sees all other dogs and wants to sniff a lot to calm himself and recall is a work in progress. Inside my home he is listening more. When I first rescued him he was mega hyper and out of control and I had to teach him to be calmer.

      I have bought your book now and am about half way through it. It really makes sense to me, so thank you so much. I really want to be the best dog guardian I can possibly be for Beau and I am very determined that he will look to me to fulfill all his needs and they will all be met. I am getting there, I think, but he had so many behavioural issues when I re-homed him that fixing them takes time. His over-excitement when he sees other dogs, cats and even squirrels is getting better as I stay calm and reassure him with my body language and demeanor that there's nothing to worry about and I am using your heel technique from your video. And he barks at home when he hears an unfamiliar noise outside but I say thank and go check it out and that really works. I bought your book for a friend also.

    Wow I have a new puppy and I've watched a few other channels. So far this channel has made the most sense. There was one channel where the man kept saying what he thought the dog was thinking and I was like 😳. That isn't going to help me one bit even if what he says is true. Not all Dogs think alike.
    My puppy is the complete opposite of my other Dog that passed away. Wow I miss him so much. This puppy is roudy and I've only had him since July 21, 2020.
    My other boy was born in 2000. What is so neat about it is that when the first boy turned one then the year was 2001.
    My pup will be one in 2021!
    So even if I go senile... You get it! Lol.

    Hi Nigel. I've been watching your videos and have ordered your book. The videos have helped so much and I am very grateful to you. I am now taking my dog to an empty park and training her recall using a very long training line. The training line is alright but can drag a bit and I wondering if you have any recommendations for a very light line that my dog won't be so aware is attached. Thank you again for all your help. Can't wait to read your book.
