It changes the toe angle (angle wheels point away from direction of travel - usually towards the centre line of the car by a few degrees) not the camber (angle wheels are tilted away from vertical, usually with the top towards the centre of the car by a few degrees). Along the straight DAS takes out almost all of the toe so rolling resistance is minimised, in corners it allows them to set more toe than normal making the car turn in more precisely.

This is such a good video. I'm assuming this was written and recorded before the FIA put a ban on multiple engine modes, i.e, Party Mode, to close the gap from Mercedes to the rest of the field. Although it has been implemented, Mercedes are still sitting in pole on Saturday and winning on Sunday.
The FIA are trying everything to stop Mercedes, even with these radical rule changes in 2022 I can't see Mercedes just going away, especially if Lewis is still at the team.

@@zmotorsport2815 Simple answer; It's not. MM93 has been out all season and the best HRC rider is Nakagami in what, 8th? HRC have been unbeatable because MM was willing to risk his health more than any other rider. MM93 has an average crash/event that is higher than any other rider. Until this year, he had been so fortunate in the results of his offs that even DP26 remarked on it. Contrast that with VR46's period of dominance in the class and you'll see that VR46 only very rarely crashed. Both MM93 And VR46 were aggressive and athletic, the difference is how far MM93 has been willing to go.
David Colin yeah but the Honda bike was only unbeatable because Marquez was their rider. That’s what made it unbeatable. I don’t know why you’re correcting me.

@@raigner i started to watch F1 late 2018 (i think i started at spa or before) and i love so much to engineering par of F1, its so interesting (i was interested in it even before starting watch F1)
Well, as a now *former* designer of these Merc F1 cars (I got tired of winning after 6 yrs, back to the US for me), I think your video is nice in that it highlights some of the nuances which make the car unique, but for sure overlooks some of the big performance adders which we engineer in to this car. I really enjoy your channel, but yeah there will be a lot lost to the typ F1 viewer. The big take-aways which you can point to are correct though - vehicle and thus floor length, you didn't touch on the suspension at all which is very complex, and the power unit. More power means you can run more wing, you need to look at sector times to really see this benefit. One notable misnomer you brought up- no one wants their engine to run 'super cool', we want it to run at as high and consistent of a temperature as possible within the various constraints. Keeps heat losses to a minimum increasing that thermal efficiency you touched on. This is an often overlooked aspect of the Merc car and most of the others on the grid. Happy to chat about other things now I am retired and washed up. Back to restoring GTRs and watching football for me. @gabednconfused
Of course dude, you can't make a 15 min presentation and explain EVERYTHING about why the mercs are so good. Suspensions, brakes, cooling, ERS, all the parts of the PU, all the teeny tiny bits of intricate aero fantasies. They dumbed it down a little but stayed very accurate and to the point. it was a nice video for anyone who isn't a die hard f1 fan. Hell even for me it was interesting.
Williams and racing point use merc engine but yet alpha Tauri and especially Red Bull beat them on regular basis. Merc engine is powerful but their car is extremely good. Renault has powerful engine too but their car sucks.
Uday Bhargav Yeah I’m pretty sure they’re not allowed to do that anymore. If you provide engines for teams, you have to provide the same engines you’re using.
How is no one else talking about the amazing edits in this video? It just made the whole video feel complete, almost like a docu-series that Netflix might produce. Seriously this is top-notch, much improved and much welcomed! Shout out to the editor on this one!

Mercedes is just on one principle: MO POWA BABEH (Edit: I've actually never had the honor of being this early, but could we PLEASE get a B2B on a FD car?)

Through different presentations of internships/job opportunities of these teams at my university, and working in Formula Student, this is what I realised: Other teams like Red Bull or Ferrari might lack in engine or aerodynamics department, or some other team might have great senior engineers but lack good junior people, or vice versa. But Mercedes has the best people from top to bottom (think of the brightest people from your university classes). And this makes a huge difference as there is no weak link in their engineering organisation. You can find little engineering innovations that makes Mercedes or any other team better in a specific area all day long. But when you realise that Mercedes' engineers make all of it work as a package, you immediately see where other teams lack.

Love the videos! I have a question as someone brand new to motorsport; Why doesn't every team have active components like rear-wheel steering, toe adjustments, etc? Is it additional weight? FIA rules? I'm genuinely curious, because on the surface it seems like the most obvious idea to ensure that the cars are always at their most efficient at all times and it kind of blows me away that it's taken until the 2020's that somebody experimented with it. I'm sure that there is a reason, I'd just like to know lol.
Just two words: German Engineering EDIT: Guys chill out, i know that the Mercedes F1 Team is more British than Chips and Fish. But its still a German Team, there is a reason why the German National Anthem is played when Hamilton wins lol. And its more a Joke than reality...
Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 is based in England and most of the said innovations were developed under Andy Cowell on the engine side and James Allison as the Technical Director. The only thing German about the team is the 60% of shares that Daimler owns
and most of that came from the excess money that other teams never even had the option of looking at. How is a team supposed to compete with the top of they're working with half the money? Mercedes can basically build and develop two different cars for what a midfield team can. That's just stupid. Ferrari is the outlier here because they're clearly just... Well dumb
I use Petronas Primax 95 for my daily drive car..and every engine oil replacement, I use Petronas Syntium 800. My engine runs smooth for a 10 year old car

I'm assuming this was written and recorded before the FIA put a ban on multiple engine modes, i.e, Party Mode, to close the gap from Mercedes to the rest of the field.
Although it has been implemented, Mercedes are still sitting in pole on Saturday and winning on Sunday.
The FIA are trying everything to stop Mercedes, even with these radical rule changes in 2022 I can't see Mercedes just going away, especially if Lewis is still at the team.

simple answer: Marc Marquez (and his aggressive, athletic riding style)
Alain?

6:28 where did you get that 3,725m long F1 car, that the length in the 60's maybe, today's F1 car are +5m long by regulation
9:42 party modes are now banned since 2 GrandPrix, the ban mean that they can't change engine map during race to get an advantage and the selected map is for the engine itself, no matter the team, so Mercedes, Williams and Racing Point have the (nearly, if the client teams made the change, like for Lance Stroll because he trashed hes one at Mugello) exact same engine
10:56 yes, they have some problem with heat but also high altitude tracks like Mexico and some other one (eather case, its cooling)
12:09 wrong, 1. they can't push in, only out 2. when they pull the wheel, it toes in to have nearly 0° of toe, the toe out help cornering, not in
the only fact we know its that its help maybe a little bit for top speed (1-2 km/h) because of the friction of the front tire by not being at 0° toe and it helps them to keep the tire temp stable and get more grip out of it, but the rest, its Mercedes secret (like every thing else)

All jokes aside . The engineering that goes into these cars are very impressive
Here I am learning all the aerodynamic, set-up, and the mechanic behind this masterpiece.
For the new season.
Seems right. And opposite is true for their commercial divisions.

me: I got an ad the second u finished that sentence
Love the videos! I have a question as someone brand new to motorsport; Why doesn't every team have active components like rear-wheel steering, toe adjustments, etc? Is it additional weight? FIA rules? I'm genuinely curious, because on the surface it seems like the most obvious idea to ensure that the cars are always at their most efficient at all times and it kind of blows me away that it's taken until the 2020's that somebody experimented with it. I'm sure that there is a reason, I'd just like to know lol.
Short answer, money
Mostly regulations. A lot of high-tech (very relative here) or costly solutions are banned.
Sometimes they present great ideas but the fia would ban them

five words
MORE MONEY THAN OTHER TEAMS
Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 is based in England and most of the said innovations were developed under Andy Cowell on the engine side and James Allison as the Technical Director. The only thing German about the team is the 60% of shares that Daimler owns
and most of that came from the excess money that other teams never even had the option of looking at. How is a team supposed to compete with the top of they're working with half the money? Mercedes can basically build and develop two different cars for what a midfield team can. That's just stupid. Ferrari is the outlier here because they're clearly just... Well dumb
