  • Hi Folks,
Here's a step-by-step guide to disassembling the rare Hitachi TRK-8290, with specific regard to replacing the belts and servicing the tape deck. This particular example had a seized mechanism and a few other gremlins, so it required a pretty hefty disassembly. The link for the unboxing/appraisal video can be found at the bottom of the page.
I wanted to include enough detail to be helpful, so split the video into 2 manageable parts. Look out for part 2, where I complete the service, reassemble and test!
I have featured an 8190 in a previous video, so please check it out! I'll also be featuring a TRK-8080 soon, so stay tuned!
Please share the channel and let's try to grow it by subscribing and liking the video - it doesn't cost anything, but it would really help to support and grow the channel awareness in the vintage audio community.
Thanks so much for watching - see you soon!

Thanks so much. Part 2 will be out very soon (it's finished 😁). Would you believe it actually takes around 3 times longer to repair something while filming, and the videos themselves then take 1-2 whole days to produce, finalise, upload etc - so there's around 20-40 hours to create a 30-50 minute video.
My aim is to grow the channel so that more people can enjoy it/find it useful. Then I can film more. I repair so many interesting things that never get featured because I just have to get them done to sell them, and physically don't have the time to film it.
That being said, I have so much great stuff coming up in the New Year, which I'm really excited about!
Thanks again for your continued support!
