I guess. But for all that, why did he leave the baby, which is the object of his jealousy in your scenario, unharmed? His flat affect leads me to believe he has some undiagnosed mental disorder or is on the autism spectrum, possibly Asperger's. It's no excuse for what he did. I can only pray that he is not encouraged or motivated by the support he's receiving from the community and one day the gravity of his actions crashes down upon him and he feels sincere remorse.

No, he didn't. He may have been mentally disturbed but still 13yo and in any civilised country he would have been judged as a child. He should be in a juvenile institution with kids his own age - not with dangerous adults - and under an extensive rehabilitation program.
But he's from America, by far the most violent country in the West, which is mirrored in people's attitudes to justice. You'll never have a safe country as long as the cruelty, barbarism and vindictiveness of your justice system remains unchanged.
Also funny how it's usually just blacks and hispanics that are considered adults when they're still children.

Certainly, you can advocate for the child all you want but you can’t let a murder out on the street without even knowing a lot of the facts and sometimes that takes five years to figure out while you’re sitting in jail waiting and you’re not getting any treatment. No one is even really paying any attention to you.
And if you don’t know why he didn’t, or even if you find out some hogwash story
You certainly aren’t gonna let him back into your home so he can do the same to someone else
And why don’t people lock their bedroom doors at night when they sleep in their own home?
Or brandish some kind of a weapon near them even if it’s your own children

Actually he didn't. He came across as someone on the Spectrum, who simply doesn't show much if any emotion. The strictly truthful answers, his politeness, his disconnect and slight developmental difficulties (not knowing his address or phone number despite being otherwise intelligent) and the fact that he did seem to show actual remorse all back this up. The horrific nature of what he did and his flattened affect are what you are fixating on. Nothing else about him suggests psychopathy. People on the Spectrum can be really easy to manipulate and the idea of some sort of malignant individual doing something to goad him into doing this seems highly likely given familial and community response. I find the blood lust innate in charging a 13 year old as an adult just as unsettling.

@@ronniehaas-tu4er The fact you would back your family in this situation does not mean “I’m cold hearted”. Crimes that once you found out about them, you definitely wouldn’t back him. But because of the kids, who may be reading this, I won’t get graphic….
With that said, I rather be a cold hearted person, who does what is right, over a person who fails to hold his son accountable for such despicable behavior. I know 2 guys that have done over 27 years for a murder and they are out and are upstanding members of the community that walk a straight line. One is my godmothers husband and another is a young lads father that worked with me several years ago (the young lad). The lads dad had just gotten out at the time and gave me rides home many times. I've kept in contact with him over the past 8 years. My godmothers husband is now a drug counselor and works with guys getting out of prison and we work together everyday. I hate when people say this. How many people do you know that have killed someone or even done prison time? Probably very few but I'll guess NONE. You probably have no clue how time can change a person or how these guys minds work. It's really irresponsible to say sh1t like that!!! Stop repeating things you hear. For the mere fact that this boy didnt want to disclose his motive for murdering his mother reveals that his actions were sinister and that he is a danger to society. I do not dispute him being tried as an adult because clearly he thinks like one. He seemed comfortable describing the details of the murder and how he carried it out so far as saying he was aiming for he neck where he would hit an artery, that sounds like somebody that is fully aware of what they are doing and had intentions of taking a life. That would sound like a grown man with malicious intent trapped in the body of a 13 year old. So sad. He deserves the maximum penalty in my opinion.

As if it was a "child" making a mistake. The one woman (who, oddly enough, actually somewhat resembled the victim) going on about "we want to make sure he is still going to class and getting therapy" like omg dude do you fucking people hear yourselves?! If I could just make one suggestion:”as they work through the grieving process” gives me the idea that there is this step by step process that people go through utilizing it ends. I would just say “as they grieve” instead since grief is less of a process and more a new part of their lives.

I can imagine how the judge would be not willing to put anyone else’s life at risk by allowing him out on house arrest. The same people that fought for house arrest would be blaming the judge for allowing a killer the opportunity to kill again. And we have to remember that there was actually 3 options, house arrest, juvie or adult jail. Since we believe that one is innocent until proven guilty then maybe juvie should have been given in order to allow him to continue with his schooling in the event that he is found not guilty at trial. I just cannot stop thinking about the baby girl that woke to no longer being fed and cuddled by her mother. What if she was being breast fed? That would have been a transition that would have been extremely painful for the baby’s father to go through. And this young man certainly doesn’t appear to have any remorse or feeling anything whatsoever.

The family is in complete denial right along with the community. It’s sad, yes, as there is clearly something wrong with him, but that boy shouldn’t get any leniency solely because of his age … his heinous actions don’t scream “just a kid”. It’s not like stealing a car and going for a joyride and wrecking it or something … he outright _murdered_ his mother in her sleep and did it with clear intent. If he was just 1 or 2 years older, magically all these people clamoring to throw the “just a kid” excuses out would be real quick to rethink their stance and would be pushing to try as an adult with suddenly the arguments of right and wrong coming into play. I bet these same types wouldn’t be all too happy if he was tried as a minor and was able to be let free in X amount of years once an adult to end up as their next door neighbor, date their daughter or son, etc.? Guarantee they’d be on edge and wouldn’t be all too pleased, wanting him far away from them.
Prison is where he needs to be.
He was old enough to know exactly what he’s doing and to know it was wrong. Using one’s age as an argument in this situation doesn’t really hold much weight. He absolutely knew better.

Pleaaaase, don't let them hurt me, oh my God, they're knocking on the door, are they going to kill me, argggghhh!! No, the police won't kill you unless you give them a reason to unfortunately.
