YES! This episode is great and is a huge set up for the rest of the series really. The show allowing some "meta" in here is one of the best choices the writers made
This episode took it's name from a Sesame Street book. The plot revolves around Grover begging the reader not to turn the page and eventually trying to prevent it by various strategies only to realize on the final page that the monster at the end of the book is, in fact, he, himself lovable furry old Grover...
This is a great episode on its own and a pivotal episode for the entire series, and it goes super meta. It's also pivotal for the season because not only does it introduce this meta element with Chuck, it shows Castiel helping Dean on the sly and that's huge.
It's true that the angels only started moving when Dean broke the first seal in Hell. But the demons started moving much earlier, what with Mary and Jessica. Since Chuck is a Prophet of the Lord, it goes to show that the Lord considers a lot more of the story relevant than the angels do. Probably because the Lord in this case is really the writers of the show. But I guess that's a bit too meta...
But didn't Castiel say they tried to get to him in hell as fast as they could but it took too long to reach him and he broke the seal shortly before they arrived?
I *literally* can't explain all the ways I enjoyed your thought process this episode. I always do but this was top notch, and I'm too tired to discuss it properly without spoiling anything. I couldn't wait till tomorrow to watch...
Hello, I love this episode so much. Supernatural is the master of meta and this is the first. Plus THANK YOU for mentioning Chuck's age when he started the books. I knew you'd like Chuck he's is definitely something else.
Chuck not being old enough to be around to write Mom's death in real time isn't a plot-hole, the first book is the series premiere, which featured flashbacks to those events. By writing those flashbacks he is, in his mind, creating that past.
in the hotel in the fanfic scene, Dean says he's full frontal in these books, and after Cas stops Dean from beating Chuck, he tells Chuck that he's a huge fan. not a lot of ppl pick up on this. it's so freaken funny, meta, clever and a v big 'fuck you' to those who criticize this show's homoeroticism. it's brilliant.
Azrael is the angel of death in Islam too. in Islam Gabriel is the angel of the message, he is the one who delivers God's (Allah SWT) message to his prophets, ending with prophet Muhammed.

I always love when a show is able to poke fun at itself

I think you are underestimating Chuck's age. I always saw him as mid 30's
haha yeah, he's in his late 30's here but it's cute that Erik thought he might be mid 20's
love this episode and your reaction as always, supernatural has couple of these meta episodes and they're so fun every time.
“The Monster At The End Of This Book” is a children’s Sesame Street book. My kids loved it when they were little.
Watch the last 10 minutes of this episode again after the series finale - everything Lilith has told Sam here will make perfect sense to you.
In the credits, yes you have seen Ben Edlund.. and you've also seen Jeremy Carver..
I love when Supernatural goes full meta they do it so well 😂
One of my favorite episodes. When u know, u know. So hilarious.
Great reaction to one of my top five favorite episodes of this show!

carver edland = jeramy carver and ben edland. also Bobby singer is named after Robert singer who is an executive producer.
despite what you might think. incest is not cool.
Now I can’t wait for 10th season or whatever

of course Lilith is much stronger, she is the first and most powerful demon in existence

Finally!!!!!!!!!!!
Honestly... Never liked that Chuck guy. He sings a nice song in a later episode, but that's all.
The song is really nice ngl
Yeah, I really like his voice.
10:58 damn someones thinking waay too low of Sam
