    the XJ had a lift, bigger tires, smaller space, and unafraid to damage side panels. this guy had the best rig up there.

    Quite the helpful video for me personally, currently building out a 2006 Ram 2500 mega cab 5.9 cummins as a overlanding/ offroading rig. After watching your video shows me more or less what my vehicle should be capable of and what its limits are going to be. Taken it on a few trails but nothing quite as technical as this. Anyways awesome job dude and awesome video hope to see yall out on the trail someday.

      Diesel_12B I’ve since added 37” Cooper STT Pros, a huge improvement on the trail and should be considered a minimum for a truck this size off road. Your biggest hindrance is going to be the weight, your going to struggle in the soft stuff, mud, sand snow. You’ll want to try to run something wide like a 13.5” tire.

    I really enjoyed this video. I was very glad to see actual need and use for the winch on the Power Wagon. Any time I search for use of the winch is just Dodge released videos.
    I know the Power Wagon is supposed to be most capable and it is and this video proves it. It's large and wide..I think if Dodge made the Power Wagon trim in a regular cab and a short bed then it's be essentially perfect, just like the original Power Wagon

    That was tight! My confidence was a little dinged, up until that point the Power Wagon had never been stopped. The weight, width and break over clearance was definitely not a winning combination. Another 1” of lift and 37’s by spring will help.

    The longer wheelbase of the PW its crux in this scenario. It really needs a 2-3" lift and 37's+ to keep issues like his hangups here from plaguing the off-road experience.

    • @shawnomeara22
      @shawnomeara22 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Tex Lee, it 2” Thuren coils which is a 1” lift for Power Wagons and 35’s. I’ve since added another inch of lift with new control arms to fit 37’s which will be added in the spring. Not that I necessarily want to run that trail again with the new set up, but your right, that extra inch and the 37’s would have made a big difference.

    • @texlee84
      @texlee84 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@shawnomeara22 They are just about perfect on 37's, I have been running the 1.5"+ Thuren coils on 37's for about a year now and they give you just that extra little bit of room you need to comfortably make room for the 37's and keep rubbing to a minimum. Now that I have been seeing all of these rigs on 40's lately I find myself day dreaming about fenders and 40's as well, lol.

    • @shawnomeara22
      @shawnomeara22 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tex Lee, but the gears? I had to have my front ring & pinion re-built recently, (whole other story) I talked to my gear shop about going to 5.13’s front and rear since they were already doing the front. They recommended not going lower than the 4.56’s or 4.88’s on a heavy truck, especially one that tows because the pinion gear gets so small, which dramatically reduces the contact patch between the ring and pinion. You’d have to run 5.13’s or 5.38’s with the 40’s but end up with weak gears.

    • @texlee84
      @texlee84 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@shawnomeara22 I think 5.13's with 40's is just about perfect with the gasser (6.4L) but I see no issue with 4.88's and that's the route I would go if I were worried about a smaller pinion gear. Should I make the jump to 40's I will toss in 4.88's, but if I stick with 37's I don't see myself investing in lower gears unless there's an issue with my current R&P and I have to do repairs. I am more than ok with the power and acceleration with 37's and 4.10's at the moment.

    Excellent video. That's the next purchase I'd like to make the Power wagon. I just bought a trailer which weighs about 6500 lb wet fully loaded the living "stuff" inside.
    I'd like to take the trailer awesome BLM land and do some light overlanding with a Power wagon. My only concern is the payload.
    I'm wondering if I should just if I should go with a true 3/4 ton 4 x 4 for the added payload capacity.

      im at 8000lb in my 1500 :) last year's lighter build I was sitting at 7650lb doing moab and I found 25psi to be extremely wobbly and worrysome, It felt like I have no control of the truck. I tried it once only and it was enought to be convinced not to ever go below 30psi . I think 30psi still ok for my 8000lb build but I'm more top heavy now. You can check my build in solar install video one of the last videos

      The Power Wagon was actually $27k, it also tows a travel trailer and is comfortable and reliable for a family of 4 on long road trips. Can’t say that about the XJ, while it did very well, it could shit the bed at any moment. It’s easy to wheel something hard when your not worried about breaking it.

    why would the XJ be of any concern to you? its the exact same frame dimensions as that pretend jeep (4 doors arent JEEPS) so if the pretender can make it the XJ can as well. How ever the power wagon making it is impressive. SO tight >_

    It’s funny how on the Power Wagon specific FB pages the core group of guys keep poo pooing the Randy Ellis sliders, ‘cause if it’s not what they all run it must be shit. They don’t seem to understand the physics of spreading out the impacts over a large surface area.

      Shawn O'Meara I could see how rocker panel guards could work given the weight distribution.
      My main concern with them is how well they, and the lower body panel, would hold up in an area with lots of snow and road salt.

      Kal P if lived in a rust prone area I don’t think I would run these. If you were to install them, get all your holes drilled, and then take them back off an treat all the holes and covered area with some type of rust prohibitor would be an option.

      Did you not watch the video? I squeezed it through 2 giant boulders, denting the bumper, and smashing the rear corner panel.

      I disagreed with the lines they picked, too.

      Trust me, we tried every line there and a lot of rock stacking. There was a lot of action that isn’t in the video. Also what’s real deceiving is how steep both of these obstacles were, really steep, like difficult to walk steep.
