There are only 2 possible reasons for anyone having given this a dislike. One, because they're sad that doctor John is no longer living. Two, because they're jealous that they can't play piano anywhere near as well as he did.
No wasted motion and poetry in motion... the Doc is one of the greatest pianist who ever lived.. He makes you feel every note... and that left hand...powerful!
Lord Have Mercy!!! That is something else. Dr. John had to have tapped into some otherworldly powers to play the way he did. It's a genuine thrill to listen to him play. I am constantly amazed, and sometimes, he hits some phrases that make me laugh out loud... Wonderful!
I'm trying to decipher and learn this incredible difficult piece. And when I analyze it, I noticed that NO single riff or lick is the same. The reason this piece is so captivating is that he constantly changes riffs and mixes up catchy variations of previous played licks. What an incredible boogie woogie player Dr. John was.
Very good and i likes Dr. John. If you like boogie woogie, try also the three greats of Boogie woogie : Albert Ammons, Pete Johnson and Meade Lux Lewis.
I always liked Sestak's version of Swanee River Boogie. I don't want to compare apples to oranges as the styles are clearly different. But this one always stands out among the other Swanees. He is a legend!
If you dig deep into NPRs archives you will find recordings of Marylin McPartlans 'Piano Jazz' radio show. Sift through those and you will find a hour of Marylin & Dr John chatting about their music and doing long duets together on two pianos. It will be well worth your search.
I wish I had time time to wrack you brain and be taught some cool stuff like this. I’m in Edinburgh and fairly accomplished at blues piano, but as I spend at least as much time playing blues guitar (or more), I just feel I’m never progressing fast enough. My main love & influence is the hard 1950’s piano blues styles of Otis Spann & Little Johnny Jones
¡¡¡¡ Que bien como toca !!!!! . Que maravilla , esto es para verlo en vivo , aunque aqui se ve muy bien , pero el ambiente influye . Gracias por verlo de esta forma y muy buenos dias
The 3 chords are for the left hand :-). There is no note of the chromatic scale left untouched by his right hand - looks like he even hits D-flat a few times. The only thing constraining his right hand is his ear, his sense of rhythm, and his toolkit of riffs.
Start with the other simplified version of this that is on TH-cam, then work up to this level of improvised embellishments. Believe that anything is possible. Don't think there is not enough time left to rise to anywhere near this level. You just have to love it, want to do it, and be patient - put in 10,000 hours of strategic practice and you will know what you are capable of.

Mais yeah, cher. You know that’s right.
You’ve convinced me to dislike the video now!
Or the other thumb is already up elsewhere
No wasted motion and poetry in motion... the Doc is one of the greatest pianist who ever lived.. He makes you feel every note... and that left hand...powerful!
Yes, there is no wasted motion there at all- bloody good, he was a loss and a half.
Yes is absolutely no wasted movement at all- remarkable.
Dr John is undoubtedly one of the coolest people who ever lived
Absolute legend...one of the best who ever lived.
Magnificent!!! He does beautiful trills with his 4th and 5th fingers on the right hand. Superb! The flow of his playing is outstanding.

RIP Dr John a champion for New Orleans
Right place....wrong time Dr. J.....you left a hole in my heart and soul....thanks for your gifts.....rest in peace and eternal happiness....
How is this even possible? Truly a legend.
When it comes to boogie woogie piano there are faster, more flashy players but none of them can match Dr. John's unique touch, feel and bluesy licks.
Really, it is true.
Bo Diddly is good.i like Mose Allison as well but you’re right the dr is one of a kind . his left thumb has its own brain lol😮😅
So glad i got to meet you Mac finally . Simply a one of a kind player and Mr New Orleans . God bless R.I.P

He was really the Art Tatum of New Orleans piano playing. I don’t think that’s an exaggeration.
I always respect him. Now I'm 38 years old. Since I was 15. From Japan.
Amazing !
Oh , Mac !
How much we miss you .
from japan
Dr John is one of the only artists whose speaking voice sounds exactly like his singing voice lol. Great great music forever!!

I bopped him on the shoulder as he came through the crowd. Penn's Landing, Philadelphia, ~1988
THIS GUY IS A GENIUS
I always liked Sestak's version of Swanee River Boogie. I don't want to compare apples to oranges as the styles are clearly different. But this one always stands out among the other Swanees. He is a legend!
Yeah - both versions are phenomenal!!

One day I'd like to be as good at anything as Dr John was at the piano
Yep, that's how it's done, all right. Barrel house boogie-woogie rules! Regards, The '62 Mathew St. 1-Man-Band (Total Retro Rock)
I wish I could play like this
That speedup between 1:06 and 1:12 is BOSS!
What a great piano Player!!!!
Marvellous, thank you Dr John.

Visualization of a master lick artist !

How can a person take three simple chords and make it sound SO FUCKING INCREDIBLE?
David Gerber ikr He's just full of music, depth, earthiness & fun... and it pours out of him, he can't hold it in! lol

He never did anything less than perfect.

THE KING OF BOOGIE
Sweet... holy... mother.
Keepin' with one of Best😊
Unbelievable.
Fantastic! Thanks for synchronizing the audio and video. As a player, it drives me nuts when they're not in sync. What a performance.
+learjeff1 Yea... He is a Man ) How many hours have to play human being to achieve that level? ))
I was trying to calculate that also, maybe if I practice really hard, my 3rd generation or forth might be able to??

Very Sad he has now Passed Away.
What a genius he was!
RIP Dr. John
Georgous
I’d give my right arm to be able to play that.
I'd give my right arm to have his left arm!
@@theorb21 how the hell would either one of you play this with just one arm ???
SUPREME pianist! 🙂
I'm no expert, but that seemed pretty great...
My favourite boogie woogie clip. Please take a look at Homespun Music Instruction where these fabulous instructional dvds are available to buy.
Great left hand.
In the end: Maybe Fats Domino or Albert Ammons can recognize it.. What a comment..
The original arrangment in boogie was made by Albert Ammons
He had the best left hand in the business
Foster is rocking out in his grave!
Beautiful

going to miss this guy
I thought I was close to having this down. I am wrong.
He definitely knows where middle C is
👏👏👏👏
Um whoah, what is theeeis? AND I can slow down on settings to lern me it if I so desire. And thank ya.
I hope the Good Doctor and Mozart get to play together someplace...piano four hands.
Mozart was definitely from New Orleans- listen to the Elvira Madigan piece.
He started out as a guitar player and if it wasn't for a gun shot wound, he would have never switched to piano.
You need both views to convince yourself that it’s only one man playing.
Best version:
th-cam.com/video/3ojt7e88g2I/w-d-xo.html
I thought Ed Norton wrote Swanee River.
He was good but not as talented as a German young man named Luca Sestak.....
Love Luca's version of this also!!!
mute you
