Hey man. Musician and instrument lover here, I’ve seen that piano in a few of your videos and I beg you not to throw it away. It’s in very bad condition but I’m certain that there are piano technicians wherever you are, who are willing to restore it. Please send it to a piano service for the sake of preserving a piece of music history.

It is easy to criticize someone on the internet. The strange part about that is that those criticizing someone took the time to record, document and then share it to the world, they would likely become the criticized for one reason or another. After having done a few rehabs myself, I probably would have done a couple things differently than you have chosen. But at the end of the day, I am also learning things from you that I could potentially apply the next time I have a rehab project. That square structure looks like a cistern, back in the day it was nice have water for washing up in the morning, making coffee and homemade biscuits without having to hand pump water from a deep well.
@@TrishaBreaux Many times they had an indoor well at the sink board, unsure how they filled the cistern .. see that dark wood in the upper floor, these old homes were hotboxes in summer, had wood stove/fireplace for heat, he has major challenges ahead to transform this into livable space, the cistern probably being way down on the list.
It is a shame you couldn’t save more of that flooring . I bet after you put a sander to it, it is absolutely beautiful. Can’t wait to see what you do with the stuff you did save.
@@99Projects totally understand. To pull it up without damaging it and having enough usable pieces to finish what you plan can get you into trouble. I can’t wait to see what you have in mind.

I live in the UK it’s very interesting to watch the work you’re doing and as you said for an old house built 100 and odd years ago it’s in remarkable condition
The thing that amuses me most about your work relationship is you two are in sync after (I'm sure) many discussions about how this is going to be done and NO arguments (at least not on screen) and still you have fun together and can laugh. Keep on keeping your sense of humor & stay warm. I am looking forward to the finish and the "surprise" you plan with the old floorboards.
I have been a carpenter for 30 years and everything you are doing is just right. Good job!!! I can't wait to see how it ends up.God bless you and your family my friend.
Back in the day, they used hooks and wardrobes. It would be awesome once the house is done to furnish it with period furniture. It would be beautiful, too.
A possibility for the old flooring is to glue the pieces together (like a floor) and turn it into a table/coffee table/chairs and such, so that way you have that piece of history with you all the time in your renovated home
I enjoy this whole process so far, but this one here just hit different. I can only guess it is because for me this video showed some real progress. Well done looking forward to many more and eventually the end result.
Would maybe be good to put a trap door into that little stone box. Could use it as a cellar or storage area! Saw someone else mention this but figured I should also repeat it to up its likelihood of being seen: if you still have any of the rough cut wooden structural beams that aren’t rotten, keep them. You will need them for framing windows and such.
We've been remodeling our 1940's house on our days off from work. It's a tremendous amount of work redoing floors, that's mainly what we've been doing so far, and a little bit of framing and lots of drywall. The cabin is coming along great! Keep up the good work
Using synthetic winch rope to replace the pull-start rope on that engine was a good idea, you have a smart/common sense buddy. Solving problems and improving tools, equipment, rigs and so on is an opportunity, it's helpful and it's wise. ;)
@@99Projects Conversely, with a very small amount of modification, you could just remove the pull-start assembly, and start the engine with any cordless drill, then you'd never need to worry about the rope breaking ever again. The only downside to that, is if you find yourself in a situation where you don't have a cordless drill available.
@@99Projects Got the idea from Todd over at project farm. He's been starting his lawnmowers like that for years, lol Maybe it's to do with the type of engine ::shrug::
Great Channel! New Subscriber!! Former General Contractor / Engineer, smart move on your part to completely gut the cabin. I had a 1968 Chevy Dump Truck, great truck, still running!
I'm so glad I came across your videos and I'm really enjoying them. Thanks for taking the time to make them and share them with us. I hope you take those old shoes you found and place them back into the walls when you start rebuilding. For some reason in the 18th and 19th centuries people put shoes into the walls of the houses they built in order to ward off evil spirits. I think those shoes were put there on purpose and it would be a nice sign to put them right back!
It makes me so happy to see someone bringing old houses back to life! It's something I'd love to do to a house for me to live in, if I had infinite money lol
Insane amount of work. I cannot wait to see the finished results. You are impressive with everything you can get done and know. I also like how you talk about it being built to last. I remodeled my enitre hom 3 years ago. I cut no corners and everything was done with quality.
Hope your dog didn't step on anything sharp. Just saw you had an old piano. Inside them is the soundboard, usually made of iron, looks kind of like a harp. They can have casting info, like location and date - pretty cool looking. I've seen people make tables, yard are, etc. Just in case you want to get up to 100 projects..
I follow this series religiously. I love the rythm of the videos. Normal then speed up portions then bits of quiet when you decompress. My fear of heights would make working on literal floating boards rather nightmarish. I keep loving the interior of this house a lot. Take care of your health people & furry friends. 💙 from France.
From what I googled, apparently burying a shoe in the wall near a door or window was supposed to help ward off evil spirits or demons from entering your home. Also, really hope you find someone who will restore that piano, it looks like a great piece.
I do this crap for a living. Torn out more pilaster than I care to remember. Still love watching these videos even after a long days work myself. Thank you , keep up the good work. I am sure you have no problems sleeping at night.
Doggo is absolute UNIT. He's so precious and I love seeing him exploring and supervising during all these vids. They're already awesome but he makes them 1000xs better :)
Loved watching...my formative years (1-18) were spent watching and helping my family do this very thing. When I bought my first house at age 27 I started down my own path of buying and redoing/rebuilding, etc.
"open concept, shiplap and recessed lighting... That's all you need to know" 😂 Max is the goodest boy! Even Max is like "Dad, I don't know what you're doing... But i refuse to live here without a floor" Ummm... That's not a beam, that's a tree!
Great work. Love that box bay on the second floor and hope you keep it and incorporate it in the design. As a retired custom builder, I always tried to blend the old with the new when doing a rehab. When people see it, they'll feel that connection to history.
I'm really enjoying watching the way you're repairing and remodeling while trying to keep what you can. You're absolutely right about homes being built to save on cost rather than being built to last. Lumber alone isn't even grown the way it used to be, so even if boards were cut to the same size, they're just weaker. Keep up the great job, and give Max lots of pets from me and my pack!
Stumbled across your channel and so glad I did! I love all things construction/renovation and restoration. Especially turn of the century homes. I formerly owned a home built in the 1930’s, so I understand the challenges. And yes, they sure were built to last. Great job on the restoration thus far! Can’t wait to see the finished project.
Screws are the best, I'm a contractor and always use screws over nails especially in remodels. Of course people will say nails are faster which they are but not when your remodeling a old building.
Back in the early 80's my wife and I bought an old Grange hall on 2 acres for 8 grand. We tore out the entire floor. We did salvage all of the pine T&G floorboards. The 'joists' were logs flattened on one side. WE saved what we could, but we needed to rebuild the entire floor system. Sometimes you can't save it all. later we reinstalled the T&G floorboards and sanded them smooth. Came out nice. The Grange was built during the Lincoln Administration.

I'm a self proclaimed semi-professional-amateur TH-cam watcher. Got to admit...typically not a huge fan of the long episodes. But you make it work! Love it! Editing, content, humor just makes it happen. Frick'n love your channel!
When i first saw you starting this project I figured, 'Okay, here's two chuckleheads, with a big dog, a pile of rubble with a roof and half a plan...this should be fun.' And it HAS been! And its a real testament to the survivability of Go Pro. Doin' good, dudes. Keep it up! (The cabin, that is)
Gluing and screwing the floor decking down is way better than just nailing it. Floor will not squeak when walking around the room. Same always need to be done on stair treads material.
Great videos, i subbed probably two months ago. When you finish this project, you should make a video discussing how much it cost you to purchase the property and how much you put into it to get it finished and maybe your plans for it! I think this channel is awesome and inspires me to try to do something similar with abandoned properties as there is a lot here in the Appalachian mountain range!
Thank you to everyone who watched the video! I really have the best audience on TH-cam!
Would you have to dig more of the basement to make it to where it's not to close to the main deck? Or would you leave the height as is?
You are destroying so much good lumber by cutting it that way.

I love this cabin project so much!!!!!! Your dog 100% thinks you’re absolutely nuts and I love it!!!
It is a shame you couldn’t save more of that flooring . I bet after you put a sander to it, it is absolutely beautiful. Can’t wait to see what you do with the stuff you did save.
I agree but I want it done right too. I saved a bunch and have some cool ideas for it
@@99Projects totally understand. To pull it up without damaging it and having enough usable pieces to finish what you plan can get you into trouble. I can’t wait to see what you have in mind.
Looks like he's able to save the whole upstairs at least. Bet they turn out looking fantastic
My man, my wife and I stumbled across your channel. We appreciate your work on the cabin and we're totally bought in on the project! We're both hard working types and we like to see those who aren't willing to give up easily! Keep it up, and we can't wait to see how it turns out.
Thank you for your comment
It almost feels like I’m part of the project.
Keep up the good work!!
This caping is gonna look so good ❤
I live in the UK it’s very interesting to watch the work you’re doing and as you said for an old house built 100 and odd years ago it’s in remarkable condition
This project replacing the floor was excellent and deserves two 👍👍up
The thing that amuses me most about your work relationship is you two are in sync after (I'm sure) many discussions about how this is going to be done and NO arguments (at least not on screen) and still you have fun together and can laugh. Keep on keeping your sense of humor & stay warm. I am looking forward to the finish and the "surprise" you plan with the old floorboards.
We’ve been friends for 25 years. We work pretty well together, don’t have to talk much to get a lot done. I greatly appreciate having him help
@@99Projects Truly, that brother from another mother.... glad you have him.
I’m really enjoying watching this restoration, I think man or woman, it’s important to have many of these skills or at least understand them. 🙏🏻
I have been a carpenter for 30 years and everything you are doing is just right. Good job!!! I can't wait to see how it ends up.God bless you and your family my friend.
If you been a carpenter for 30 years, what do you say about a floor with that span without noggings, i have never seen it before.
You guys are doing great...Don't forget closet space!!
Back in the day, they used hooks and wardrobes. It would be awesome once the house is done to furnish it with period furniture. It would be beautiful, too.
@CarolReidCA yep! I don't have a single closet in my house
A possibility for the old flooring is to glue the pieces together (like a floor) and turn it into a table/coffee table/chairs and such, so that way you have that piece of history with you all the time in your renovated home
I have a few ideas for the flooring I saved, but that’s classified lol
@99Projects, a big, sturdy, hardwood kitchen/dining table crafted out of the old flooring from the building itself would be pretty damn cool.
@@moparman1962my vote is the kitchen cabinets from the old floor
I also want to add that you could use them for a headboard/footboard…Im sure whatever you use them for will turn out fantastic!
@@Truecrimejunky another good idea, or shutters for the windows, but I think we’re running out of floor now lol
I enjoy this whole process so far, but this one here just hit different. I can only guess it is because for me this video showed some real progress. Well done looking forward to many more and eventually the end result.
Glad you enjoyed it
Would maybe be good to put a trap door into that little stone box.
Keep up the good work
Tip for your pull cord, i found that metal garage door cables worked well on my old 3 wheelers and didn't break. Try it out sometime!
Using synthetic winch rope to replace the pull-start rope on that engine was a good idea, you have a smart/common sense buddy. Solving problems and improving tools, equipment, rigs and so on is an opportunity, it's helpful and it's wise. ;)
Yea I thought that was a great idea
@@99Projects Conversely, with a very small amount of modification, you could just remove the pull-start assembly, and start the engine with any cordless drill, then you'd never need to worry about the rope breaking ever again. The only downside to that, is if you find yourself in a situation where you don't have a cordless drill available.
@@numberyellow no don’t do that lol my buddy tried that on a mini bike motor and now the mini bike has a new motor
@@99Projects Got the idea from Todd over at project farm. He's been starting his lawnmowers like that for years, lol
Maybe it's to do with the type of engine ::shrug::
Great Channel!
New Subscriber!!
Former General Contractor / Engineer, smart move on your part to completely gut the cabin.
I had a 1968 Chevy Dump Truck, great truck, still running!
I loved my old Chevy dump truck. Wish I still had that one
That's the way things should be done! It's good to hear from others who think along these lines.
A job worth doing is a job worth doing right.
Correct my friend your doing excellent job I can't wait to see the Finnished house
Glad to see the channel getting some serious views! People seem to really like the cabin. First episode over 2.6 MILLION VIEWS! WOW!! Congratulations!
It’s crazy, thank yiu
Putting in new flooring awesome safety
From what I googled, apparently burying a shoe in the wall near a door or window was supposed to help ward off evil spirits or demons from entering your home. Also, really hope you find someone who will restore that piano, it looks like a great piece.
I do this crap for a living. Torn out more pilaster than I care to remember. Still love watching these videos even after a long days work myself. Thank you , keep up the good work. I am sure you have no problems sleeping at night.
I can’t believe you destroyed those old 2 x 4s 2:08
I rehabbed my childhood home. It had real rough sawn 2x4's in it. Nearly impossible to drive a screw in.
This is the exciting part …. Watching being reborn… doing a great job all the best from the UK
I can’t be the only one cringing at him cutting through the center of perfectly good wood 😳😱
Doesn't matter if there's nothing solid to hold it up!
It’d honestly be really cool if you restor that old fireplace looks like it would be a nostalgic job to look back at when sitting in front of it
Doggo is absolute UNIT. He's so precious and I love seeing him exploring and supervising during all these vids. They're already awesome but he makes them 1000xs better :)
Thank you
Loved watching...my formative years (1-18) were spent watching and helping my family do this very thing. When I bought my first house at age 27 I started down my own path of buying and redoing/rebuilding, etc.
Love watching you guys build new out if the old ... Can't wait to see more from a old granny in northern California..
"open concept, shiplap and recessed lighting... That's all you need to know" 😂
Max is the goodest boy! Even Max is like "Dad, I don't know what you're doing... But i refuse to live here without a floor"
Ummm... That's not a beam, that's a tree!
Lmao that’s all you need to know for a home Reno
Just found your channel 3/24/24. Binged watched all day. Love the progress on the cabin home. You are good at what you do. Patience is a virtue
Love these videos! So awesome and unbelievable job on this dilapidated historical cabin. Just WOW!
You guys are very intelligent hard working young men. Excellent video. God bless both of you.
That’s awesome
Stay safe be careful
Give max a cookie poor big guy he works so hard 😊
You guys are doing a kick-ass job!!! I am looking forward to this beautiful old house finally getting the new life it richly deserves.!
Hi!! I'm watching your channel from 96720. It brings back memories of watching my Dad work when I was a little girl. I am 80 now, and I love watching your videos!! I also love classic cars!! They sure don't make 'em like they used to!! Māhalo!!🌺
That’s awesome, I’m glad you enjoy the videos.
Great work so far! I hope you have many many beers after these work sessions!!
I'm a self proclaimed semi-professional-amateur TH-cam watcher. Got to admit...typically not a huge fan of the long episodes. But you make it work! Love it! Editing, content, humor just makes it happen. Frick'n love your channel!
Well thank you. I’m glad you enjoy them
Max is a good helper. ❤
Okay, found this today, and started with the 1st episode and watched them all. Very interesting.
You guys knocked out a lot of work in a short time on the house. Great job
You should keep the logs for fireplace use!
You and your friend, did a damn good job ! 😎👍
Great progress and excited to see it all start coming back together. Love Max!
Just found your channel recently I absolutely love renovation construction making things new and pretty.
Really enjoying this series. Congratulations on the first sponsorship!
Restoration jobs can be overwhelming but yours looks worthwhile. Good series. Hope it makes back all the money you’ve spent!
I can't wait to see the journey of the piano! I am locked in on this series! Thanks guys!
Love the house. Glad your fixing it up
I don't quite understand how your stairs just float like that.
But I trust that you know what you are doing.
Interesting video. ❤😊 Nice pup.
