- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 6 ก.พ. 2025
- The Spike Family consists of missiles suited for several platforms, multiple ranges and a variety of targets. The Spike missile system is manufactured and marketed by the Israeli Company Rafael. Spike is a fourth generation man-portable fire-and-forget anti-tank guided missile with tandem-charged HEAT warhead. The Spike missile can be also used on ship. SPIKE-ER Missile will be operated from dedicated station remotely and both operators (Boat navigator/steerer and missile operator) will be able to coordinate their action optimally - visual and hearing contact available. The SPIKE-ER can be installed in the AH-1S Cobra, Agusta A-129, MD-500 Defenders, Gazelle, Mi-24 Hind and many more aircraft or helicopter. All of the Spike Family members have a low Life Cycle Cost, due to high reliability and operational, logistic support and production commonality between members.
Hope you enjoy!!

Dont you ever thought about that Israels enemies dont have tanks but all them stupid countries still buy spikes and most important that the best weapon makers in the world (Russians) dont make 3rd gen. anti-tank syst. Why Russians dont make it theirs ATS like spikes and javelin? Think about it and maybe then you wont be so exited to talk abou it. Stay smart
you should do VDV force. Cuz its something unique
I‘m a German paratrooper and we got the 4km version for infantry this year (we call it MELLS).
I shot 5 missiles so far and can tell you this thing is a monster. We penetrated 1 meter of pure steel with it. You can see a fucking squirrel at 4.000 meters at night, that’s crazy.
Our sneaky little Wiesel tanks will get the 8km version next year. That’s not even fair anymore :-)
This is crazy stuff :)
Ps. I'd love to own a Wiesel.
As a German I hope you get thousands of them. Thank you for sharing your experience.
@@larskoster1760 Also known as EuroSpike :)
I have two things to say to this:
1. Anti Squirrel Guided Missile - or ASGM. Peak meme.
2. I find it ironic that the German Bundeswehr is utilizing Israeli-made weapons. The good sort of irony.
Love from Israel!
@@shrk128 Mate, I love the Israeli Military. Don’t care about religions, history, politics or whatever. The Israeli military is one of the finest. Tons of experience and great tactics. Unfortunately never got the chance to train with them. Some Israeli inventions like the Mells/Spyke are awesome too.
I served in IDF as a medic in Armored corps back in 1998.
The anti-tank groups at the engineering corps camp near us had many training exercises and
they were always in a shortage of medics, that are obligatory to every live ammunition exercise.
So they always "loaned" medics from our camp for their war games. That's where I first seen Spike at work.
I was blown (luckily not literally )) by this system!
At first launches I wasn't stationed near the launcher, I guess back then some of the systems were still a secret.
I just watched a rocket climb steeply on it's way to a soviet T-55 several km from us and when it got near the tank turned down and hit from above smack in the middle of the turret.
After several exercises they got familiar with me, (probably had run some checks on me) and allowed to be stationed near the launchers. That was awesome! I saw how they got sudden orders in the middle of the missile flight to divert it to another target and hit it.
Being the tanks guy, I understood that you can't do much with wire guided rocket hitting you from above.
I don't think that even the active protection system, can intercept a rocket that comes straight down, but maybe I'm wrong. Our tanks still weren't equipped with such systems back then.
Another, less amusing fact about Spike system. It was involved in 1992 Zeelim B disaster. 5 sayeret matkal soldiers
were killed by Spike rocket in live ammunition exercise while training towards secret operation to kill Saddam Hussein.
The launching team got confused and launched the rocket, while in reality it was still "dry" exercise, with soldiers in the hit zone. :( The operation was a top secret, so was the existence of Spike missile system.
The whole operation was cancelled after the disaster.
That's the upside of being the company medic! I also had to be on call wherever our guys were shooting anything. I of course always brought my own binoculars along for when the tanks were shooting. Since reservists usually insist on coming back to their families in one piece, I thankfully never had anything to do, apart from sitting in the friendly, solid shade of one of these Ze'elim Tamarisk trees and watching things go boom, and of course shooting every conceivable gun on range days. At times, it felt like a vacation, and it always beat being at work!

Reminds me of a Star Trek Deep a space Nine episode where a "smart" weapon was fired hundreds of years ago and it's programming got changed during the centuries.
Kira had to go on board and interact with it, but she couldn't outsmart the "smart" missle .
Episode was in the 90s when smart weapons were all the rage .
Star Trek is great at taking current technology trends to an extreme, like a humanoid having a debate with a smart missle about the ethics of its purpose as a smart weapon ...
"...but it's what I was made for. It's who I am. It's my purpose for being to destroy. I must follow my programming, even if I know it's wrong ."
Smart Missle Quote 24th century
These weapons are so advanced... incredible somehow even. Imagine what just 100 of those with a couple dozen missiles each would have done in the battle of Kursk in second world war.
Matsimus: Spike ER has a range of 8,000 meters!...
Spike NLOS: Allow me to introduce myself.
Nice to hear good things about jevelin and Spike. Our country uses jevelin systems and recently did contract with Germany and Israel on buying 88 boxers with 30mm guns and spike missile systems.
Many years ago I served with the 101st Airborne in SE Asia.
We carried the LAW for bunker busting duties. First time I attempted to fire one for that purpose it failed to launch. Procedure dictated that I place the unit on the ground and run like hell which I did. Two steps later it blew up wounding two grunts in my platoon.
Really glad to see things have improved since then. The RPG used by the other side was far superior and scared the hell out of us. Keep up the good work.
Handy if the ice cream van is driving off .
Militant KLF rebels have used them for exactly that.
that explains the incidental music - just one Kornet Oh! Give it to me........
Ploppy Ploppy that will teach him for short changing your kids
Notwithstanding the unit cost (what is that cost, BTW), I'm really impressed with the Spike system.
That it can give the user REAL-TIME updates as to what is downrange and within its field of view and, therefore, able to target, is exceptional and unheard of in previous weapons systems.
I must say that based on the video shown of the pending targets, the missile seems to be fairly slow as missiles go.
I mean it literally seems like you can run along side of it in flight. No blistering speeds there, NoSiree.
But the opportunity to cancel a target intercept of change of targets of opportunity make it quite a formidable opponent.
Thanks for putting this video together.
Spike is a very impressive system. There was some critisism regarding the thermal imagine system's, target confusion in very hot environments, but there is also a visual camera on the missile. The new versions have non-cooled IR optics resulting in increased range.
The Spike MR2 has 3000m range, from 2500m. The Spike LR2 has 5500m range, from 4000m. The Spike ER2 has 10000m range, from 8000m and with Data Link fired from helicopters it can go up to 16000m. Finally, the Spike NLOS missile increased it's range to 30000m from 25000m. The hit accuracy for the Spike family is said to be 10cm (4 inches). Keep up the good work MATSIMUS.

The UK has also acquired the Spike NLOS system mounted on M113's under the name Exactor for use in Afghanistan and Iraq as a long range, precision missile system.
The system is mounted on a four round trailer, not on M113’s.
@@markgray3648 Bit of a late reply, but the 4 round launchers were acquired later as the M113s weren’t suited to the Afghan heat, they weren’t in service anywhere else in the army so presented logistical issues, and were generally just old and clapped out so a trailer mounted system was adopted instead as mobility wasn’t a huge issue given that it basically acts as a stand-off precision artillery piece.

I think the cost would be outweighed by the reduced casualties taken in actual combat thanks to the ability to basically scout and engage tanks without even popping up on IR at any time if emplaced nicely. I wonder why they went for CCD cameras though. They are the right pick for scientiffic analysis where the density of light needs to be measured to perfection. But in a military application the presence of blur and low framerate seems annoying.

It was just announced that the Spike LR2 will be the ATGM system mounted on the new Australian Rheinmetall Boxer CRVs. Looks like a great capability. Thanks for the video.
If I were a nation in search of a newer atm, this is it!!! And I am American. Javelin is nice to but the versatility of this weapon platform is amazing. With tandom warheads and the ability to aim for vulnerable areas just before impact gives this a better chance for a kill.
Great video! As per your norm. A small PS- since 2007, they have Up-graded/ intergraded the launch and delivery SCOT platform so the unit can be reassigned and reused multiple times for AR and Drone use too. With its GPS system, they might as well. Maybe if the price goes down per unit, it can be reconfigured to deliver pizza as well!
Another great video man. Keep em coming.
This is the best and most extensive video I've seen on the Spike missile 👍
Hey matsimus rusty in oz here, luv the system😉!! everything about it is wot you would expect if the Israelis designed & built it.
The launcher multipurpose, the rockets multipurpose, it doesn't seem to have any downsides. I noticed that the hardware.well at least some of it was made by Sony which probably means that I can plug in my ps4 controller & fire & guide the rocket with it😆. I would find it very interesting to see if u could connect it to a camera fitted drone which is then used to discretely find many targets tag them all & using vehicle, helicopter mounted systems fire as many rockets possible using the drone as the targeting system once it tags a target tank, truck, towed artillery or even a large force of men it would continue to track until said vehicles are destroyed.
You could run your war without even seeing your enemy.
I just fooken luv it. Keep up the good work mate. Rusty in oz

As a Canadian, I agree 110% but our acquisitions personnel are beyond fucked and absolutely frustrating to deal with. How long did it take for us to get new rifles for the Rangers and how many companies did we piss off? We spent half a mil on researching camouflaged boots but can't spend that on getting better lbe. We got rid of our 60mm mortars and replaced them with an auto ranging grenade launcher that sits in warehouses in Canada. We bought the TAPV that's about the size of a LAV but less protected, less armed and carries less people to do jobs already being slotted for by other vehicles. We have 0 land based AA after retiring ADATS. And with all the bitching about F35 it looks like we're going to get no new jets. Don't even get me started on our Navy.
Canada's military acquisition is a bad joke paid for by the blood of Canadian soldiers. Absolute outrage.
SpecialSauces I've heard that you Canadians might be buying our old Australian hornets after we get our F-35's but the key word is OLD so yeah your military definitely needs to get their thumb out of their arse.
And that was all to stick it to Boeing for suing Bombardier because Boeing is a bitch. The biggest bullshit besides buying used aircraft is that your Hornets are STILL Boeing. If we were going to be this wishy washy we should have just stuck with Lockheed's F35 or taken Rafaele's offer.
It's sad when even a country like Luxembourg is better put together than we are.
well you guys have good artillery dudes at least. i was infantry in the us army. our own guys couldn't hit shit on one deployment to afghanistan, whenever we'd call for a fire mission and get canadians they'd be like "which window?" lol
We have great and well trained guys for sure. It's just a pisser that our various acquisitions departments fail our soldiers, airmen and sailors due to political or budgetary reasons. Our soldiers deserve better and so do our allies.
Very true, but to be fair, the US DoD 's procurement is also mostly disastrous (LCS, M1163 Growler , EFV, OICW, XM8, F-35, UCP camouflage).
You know, when we Finns buy a weapon system it is usually the best bang for the buck.
Indian MoD canceled the large Spike deal along with license manufacture was canceled because DRDO (Def RnD agency) said that a domestic missile with much cheaper price will be available in a few years but a small amount of spike will be bought as stopgap measure and replace some older versions of Milan and Konkurs
So, they basicly want to play "cheap china knockoff", but a few, test them, take them apart and produce a chaper copy of them. But considering the indian arms industry, that would be quite a good copy
Thats not exactly why they wanted to cancel. India doesn't breakdown & make copy of other country tech. Trust is very important to India.
The reason for cancellation is, DRDO says they are already in the stage where they can develop a homemade version of anti-tank missile. So, they want to offer the armed force with a local weapon & not want them to buy a expensive foreign missile.

I had a chance to take a look trough Spike-LR CLU, thermal seems very clear, even during hot day picture is free of noise. Thermal offers 2 magnifications to choose + extra electronic zoom (E ZOOM) mode. On left grip you have focus, optical zoom, brightness/contrast and BHOT/WHOT buttons (maybe i have forgotten about 1 or 2), there is also 3 position thermal switch (OFF/STANDBY with cooling/ON) there. On right grip you got a guarded lock on trigger (it probably also prepares missile like in Javelin), unguarded fire button, thumbstick with force sensing (for trajectory adjustments in flight) and IIRC 2 buttons (one for E-ZOOM and another one for MANUAL mode). Not sure where is a button for LOW/HIGH trajectory selection, maybe it is one of the left grip ones i have forgotten? CLU can display image (from build in thermal or from missile) or can be used as periscope alike thing (just like Javelin). On the bottom there are 3 LED lights (TIS, MSL and SYS). TIS is for thermal, IIRC it shows if thermal is cooling down, MSL gonna be for missile, SYS, well it stands for system but i have no idea on what it does.

The deal with India fell through because India was trying to get transfer of technology as part of the overall deal. But it was not. So they cancelled that order. But later during a border incident with pakistan in 2019 India decided to make a small emergency purchase 12 launchers and 240 missiles.
From what I’ve seen heard and read, Spike might be the best available in the world. In comparison to Eastern ATGM systems, the Russians make phenomenal ATGMs but they are not shoulder launched, nor is it a top down munition. It’s up side however is long range, accuracy and penetration.
Imagine if the Kornet was top down and shoulder launched?
It’s simply brilliant !
little trivia, out of all the vereiants, the spike nlos (tamuz) is actually the oldest one and was already used in the early 80's

Its kinda scary to know about how perfect these missiles can hit the turret top of a Tank.
About 80% of launched SPIKEs in Poland hit direct into comanders hatchs.

MALIUTKA is not low precision , the thing can hit if you are good at controling it , it all about the human behind the weapon that why later the soviet used laser system and not manual control
it's probably cheaper than the tank it's about to kill

Lima Charlie yup 😁
Amazing Missile System. As far as India is concerned, I have been reading that their MoD has been pushing for more "in house" domestically produced kit.
Yeah. The kit is already about to complete testing. And its not just one ATGM but an entire array of Indian ATGMs, all 3rd gen or above fire-and-forget with rf data link and an IIR or MMW seeker, the latter with LOAL mode as well as LOBL. Being tested from man portable, vehicle launched, helicopter launched versions. These are the DRDO MPATGM (4 km range), DRDO Nag (8km), DRDO HeliNa (8km), DRDO Dhruvastra (8km), DRDO SANT (20km).
.
However since it would be a couple of years before the production contract is passed after trials, some Spike MR were bought as a stop-gap.
.
Keep in mind, in the desert trials for the Army, Javelin had succeeded and Spike had failed (IIR seeker couldn't acquire target in one particular condition). So now the Indian ATGM being accepted has actually been tested to exceed the Spike's seeker in that parameter. The seeker's heart that is the focal planar array was also developed in India.
i've read about it and it seems like a good system. the more the better imo. india have come up with great stuff in the past years, looking forward to

DAMMIT I GOT OFF OF YOUR COLD WAR TACTICS VIDEO TO TRY FOR FIRST
my favorite is the Defense Intercept Lethal Destructive Ordinance system. Considering the integration of the armed forces, I think it is an important system!
Reason why india didn't want spike ATGMs :- Because the spike failed during the Indian army's hot trials. When india tested these missiles in the desert test range of Rajasthan, the spike missile's FPA couldn't differentiate between the target and it's surrounding because of extreme heat and that's when DRDO (state owned weapon maker) comes into the picture saying that they can deliver ATGMs much more advance than spike, government reject the spike. And guess what the spike alternative (Helina) DRDO made, recently completed the army and airforce trial in the same test range. And one more thing, during the ongoing border tension with china army bought some Spike (man portable) ATGMs in an emergency procurement because our own man portable ATGMs weren't ready yet, they are currently in trial.
i rememeber reading about Spike in some military magazine before 10 yrs or more, also inside was interesting article about Swiss Oerlikon 30mm Skyshield system used for AA defense for vital state assets like powerplants, factories, dams etc. best part was ammunition
any chance we can see about this on your channel (:
Excellent system; I would expect nothing less from Israeli Arms.
If I understand. You don't even need an ATGM.. The optics can be linked to others that do. Out of sight. They link to the one that does. Thus you can fire from cover. The other optics feeds the target information to it.
Pandur also purchased the Spike for the Marines version of the Pandur II wich to compensate lighter armour would have the Spike for higher anti-tank capabilities but the Marine version Pandur was cancelled
Speaking of fiber optic cameras, your doctor called. He needs you to come in for a check up.
Well, India chose to roll back from the deal for 1 reason.
We are developing our own man portable atgm. Infact 2 of em. But yeah, spike is a beautiful missile none the less.
Update: India bought a small amt of spike in emergency need as we were in a bloody standoff with China for some time.

Spike nlos 25 km from ground and 32 from helicopter. Apparently USA army tested on Apache and Greece is the process to convert a number of Apache to carry plus on small naval fast boats and ground units in Islands
Spike is great but you have to sit by the launching tripod all of the time it flies. Which might feel like an eternity. The missile launch exposes the infantry's position and draws fire.
The cost of spike is not in the weapon itself, but that it takes several infantrymen to handle just one shot. So you are still going to need other, faster and more agile antitank equipment to complement Spike teams work.
It has a fire and forget mode out to 2.5km; the longer ranges requires the gunner to observe the target for the duration of the flight.
Rocket raccoon just love this channel.

I can even elaborate: its a hive of guided missiles, 9 packed together stationed where ever the truck place them on the battle field, in Israel controlled territory not far from the border. the missile have a range up to 90km, depends on the missile specific type. those missile are connected on line and the launching order is placed within brigade officers. when ever a valuable target is spotted, so the unit does not have to order an air strike, which will take a lot of time - some time 15 to 30 minutes. they can log into the new system mentioned, paint the target, or get its coordinates, input it in the interface and the missile is being fired from the 9 missile box way behind them. it hits the target with in 1-2 minutes , depends on how far the missile salvo is located behind you. it can be close like 20km or as far like 90km for example. its a very short loop closing time, so its super effective. valuable targets on the battle field can be indeed, a tank, but it can also be a building you spotted terrorists in one of the windows. you need 10-20 second to lock the target to get its coordinates, then another 1-2 minutes for the missile to strike it. those missile's payload (classified) are much bigger than a standard ATGM. its more than 10KG TNT. it puts a concrete structure with terrorists inside it into a rabble of stones. this new missiles cost around 100-150K US$ per shot, so its equivalent to ATGM prices. this is the new high tech that IDF is deploying now. there are planned to be thousands of those scatters every where by trucks in the beginning of a war, and the capability is given to the IDF foot soldiers to have immediate precise strike tool with out the need to call an air strike, which is too slow and also to risky and expensive. IDF is moving forward truly to the 21st centaury - before every one else. even USA is years behind. IDF is also incorporating the new era of digital battle management. if you have seen it, its amazing: the commanders are managing the war by screens like in a computer game. every unit is shown where it is, its stats and ammo etc.. and its view from its cameras can be shared to the commander as well. you also give battle orders with in the digital management system, no need to initiate a direct radio talk. you simple click a mouse and a command. this is exactly like playing a strategic real time game on the PC. but much more advanced. this new digital era is making IDF force multiple time stronger and effective than its sheer number of units available to it, because the units are been managed in a very smart way, integrated with each other, and in real time. one tank knows all its neighbor tanks and units on the 2D/3D monitor image or even if it is behind a hill. so can collaborate much easier. it can also ask to see its peer tank view by sharing its camera's image . its amazing. this is on the brink of science fiction. I have seen it. and its blowing you mind what they have achieved. A tank and an air craft share targeting images in real time to help each other and coordinate the attack - is one simple example. a brigade commander sees all his units in real time on a 2D and 3D map and pull their sensors and image camera data in real time! unbelievable. and its all developed by Israel's high tech defense industries. USA can learn a lot from them.
this new era of war fight is the future, IDF just have it two decades sooner than the rest of the western world. this technology is estimated to multiply the military's force measurement and effectiveness by a factor of 4-8 times. un heard of.
Spike LR is in service with Azerbaijani Armed Forces and saw action in 2014
Poland will be buying more of spike missiles. We are working on some diderent programs right now. New attack helicopter, tank destroyer, new APC. Its very possible all thouse programs will have spike systems on them. And all APC Rosomak with hitfist turent will have spike system integrated in them. So its possible Poland will have a lot of spike missles in different variants.
Yoans45 and you'll need them all if Putin decides to test EU & NATO structural integrity in practice :/
That's one delicious looking ATGM Matsimus. Big fan of your channel. Keep up the great work mate. Look forward to seeing more of your future videos.
Seems to be very versatile but costly! Thanks for heads up! 👍
Thank you for showing us some very nice weapons.
I read that my country buy Spike.. i think thats good👍🇫🇮🇪🇺
Will most definitely buy this for our future army,Boranian People's Army!
Social Capabilities Enabled, Missile posts updates to twitter in real time, proceeds to decimate selected target from data base
Base Responds : :), :P, (XvX), thumbs up, thumbs up!!!!
Fun fact, polish MoD bought 1000 Spike-LR missles for 150k $ each, newest Javelins cost around 175k $ and more
A little known fact: in 1992 a prototype of the spike missile named Tammuz missile was used in a simulation of an upcoming operation of IDF’s Sayeret Matkal to assassinate Sadam Hussein(Operation Bramble Bush). During the training a tragedy happen when a soldier fired a live missile and killed 5 other soldiers that were in the staging area.
How does electro-optical guidance work anyways? I've never seen an adequate explanation.
Just the contract was signed between Hungarians and Israelis to purchase and adopt the Spike family for the different new vehicles, like the Híúz(KF41), Gidrán 4X4, the new H145M helicopters, and maybe also to the H225M.
looks like a ramped up type of javelin.
The Spike missile was developed in the late 1970's, early 1980's. The FGM 148 Javelin was developed in the 1990's. It's known to be expensive.
Dr Bendover it's a down grade to the jav.
hag1210
and the first pc the size of a microwave 1996try and fit that in a spike missile.
thanks much, very nice presentation!
India already has its own NAG missiles for anti tank abilities from helicopters and vehicle mounted launches and the MOD has asked the DRDO to develop MPATGM (Man Portable Anti Tank Guided Missile) with more range.
This means that, at DRDO's geological pace, the indigenous ATGM's development is not going to be anywhere near complete when the proverbial Sino-Pakistani excrement hits the Sind blower, and the Jawans will once again have to rely on their bravery and shed their blood again to stop the armored onslaught! Sheesh!
Not a number one fan of Israel, but i admit their military is small but advanced as hell
Merkava looks tough, Spike looks deadly
