    If that LT just tried to say the officers used "department training" in their decision not to shoot a man pointing a gun at them, he needs to find another line of work. The only reason those cops didn't shoot that guy is because they realized he'd accidentally dropped the gun before they could get a good sight picture. We get enough dead cops every year without telling the public that they should expect police to only use a taser when confronted with a deadly threat.

  • @zerofoxgavin1286
    @zerofoxgavin1286 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That's not restraint. That's a poor tactical decision. All it would have taken for one of those officers to be dead is for the offender to squeeze the trigger at the wrong time. You can't read anyone's mind. You must treat every situation like this as if they are going to pull the trigger. When a gun is pointed at you, you are facing the end of your existence, and all the pain and suffering to your family and loved ones that comes with that.

    What these officers did was contrary to their objective. By hesitating, they actually placed everyone around them in danger as the perp ran away from them into the street and into traffic. If a shootout had occurred, everyone around them was in danger of getting shot. My point is that once the perp pulled out that gun and pointed it at the officers, that should have been the end of story. Just my two cents... Stay safe... Rico

This was just cops vs a criminal. Color has nothing to do with a persons decisions. Just like a white Mexican Asian or black person people choose different ways in life, crazy how millions of people live on this earth but yet still have different personalities and different ways they do things in life.😮‍💨 just saying not finna cap I would have shot him knowing he has a gun but like I said people do things “differently” in life just like the cops.🫠

    “…the officers could’ve used justified deadly force but relied on training they undergo multiple times a year and chose not to *to avoid creating danger to people in the area*.” As a law-abiding citizen, I strongly disagree with this supposition. Like everyone else, I hate to see police hurt innocent people (accidentally or intentionally), but I would argue that these officers created MUCH MORE danger to people in the area (as well as themselves) by not ending the threat when he drew the gun. To be clear, I’m mostly blaming their training and the stupid policy decisions made by leadership and politicians. Allow me to explain.
    With the man on the ground, the combination of a downward shooting trajectory and the street surface as a backdrop eliminates the risk of bystander injury due to missed and over-penetrating shots. Sure, there’s still _some_ risk of potential ricochet, but there’s no one around him and the bullets are likely to fragment and lose most of their velocity upon hitting the pavement (read: become way less dangerous). How does that compare to the potential risk of the man getting up and carjacking someone? They said the police later found and arrested him in someone’s garage. What if the he’d taken the homeowner hostage? Or what if the guy just decided to start shooting once he got across the far street and the police were still crossing the median? That’s potentially the ultimate clusterf__k: 1) a daytime shootout in an open public space; 2) multiple directions of shooting on a pedestrian-level trajectory; 3) one shooter who probably doesn’t care if he harms bystanders, 4) the loss of a safe(ish) shooting backdrop for officers who are also dealing with the extreme stress of being shot at without cover.
    Seriously… WTF? Tell me there wouldn’t be nationwide outrage if that situation devolved into a gunfight and bystanders were injured or killed. Or a child in one of the vehicles behind the officers died after being shot in their car seat. Why should we give violent criminals the benefit of the doubt when they’re actively endangering innocent people? Police training and policies should focus on protecting the public and officers, NOT criminals who choose to be violent and victimize law-abiding citizens.
