In the 90's it was The Mystic's Dream. That song helped me get through the Richard III script. (It was 150 pages back then so I needed a lot of Loreena inspiration) Perfect for the mood of medieval storms and battles. Oh, that inflates memories.🐘
It's impossible to pick a favourite. You can't make me! 🤣 I've been a fan of Loreena since about '94/95 when I stumbled across 'The Mask And Mirror' in the world music section of a second hand CD shop near where I lived at the time. I read the notes on the back of the CD and thought "Ok, this sounds like it might be my kind of thing", so I bought it. Went home, popped it on, not expecting much. The first notes of The Mystic's Dream made me pay attention, then her voice came in, like an amazing new instrument in the mix and I was hooked. I stopped what I was doing, sat down on the sofa, closed my eyes and listened to the whole album twice. The track that really made me fall head over heels in love with her music was Marrakesh Night Market. Since then she has been my favourite artist, no debate. I've bought just about all her albums, and listen to them frequently. They never get old, never outstay their welcome. I have other favourite Loreena tracks, but Marrakesh Night Market has a special place in my heart because it was the one that first stole my heart. Anyway, enough about me.. That was a beautiful reaction. The joy on your face was wonderful to see, and I shared it fully as All Soul's Night is another favourite, and I had not seen that amazing live performance of it before. I love how you were quietly mouthing along with the lyrics, you are obviously a huge fan who knows all the words and feels her music deep in your soul. Thank you for bringing all these wonderful memories flooding back.
Greetings from Brazil, I started listening to Lorena on cassette tape in the 2000s, at that time my yoga teacher used her music in every class. Your music can heal the world
I remember getting mask and mirror when it came out I love Loreena sand her music one of the amazing sound on her music is the use of the hurdy Gurdy which is the instrument with the handle on the side
that was the first album I ever heard from her. the first song i heard was "The Mystic's Dream"...absolutely life changing, brings back so many memories
@ my favorite is her version of the traditional song the Bonny swans, I listen to a lot of folk music but I had heard nothing like what Lorena was doing.
AO. It's that music of the earth that opens us to all the rest. Into my 3rd decade of listening to Loreena. Thanks for the suggestion, suppy (you do deserve another one). Thanks for your reaction and your generous spirit.
I love Loreena McKennit! I was introduced to her in the mid 90's from a friend with the album The Visit. In which this song is the first on the album. As someone has already explained, the cranked instrument is the hurdy gurdy. A very unique instrument. There is a young talented German artist named Patty Gurdy. She plays this instrument, as well. You should give her a listen. I like the vibe of your channel. It brightens my day. Thank you!
Loreena McKennitt is from my home province of Manitoba, Canada Iove all her music too! I got to see her in concert a numbers of years ago. Great concert!
She is great. Mrs Weasley :) Used to listen to her a lot in our tea room. Reminds me of the movie The Mists of Avalon. As for the instruments, I recognise only the Indian tablas (the round shaped drums). Your reaction always makes me happy. And I found half a bar of chocolate in the cupboard, so everything is ok! :)
The cello player is Caroline Lavelle. She has played with Peter Gabriel, Thomas Dolby, Vangelis, Radiohead and sang "Home of the Whale" for Massive Attack.
Jess, thanks for doing. There's no need to do another one. Glad you enjoyed. This 2006 concert has its own Wiki page and it tells what instruments and who is playing. The Alhambra Palace is in Grenada Spain. Building started in the 1200's. It is considered one of the best examples of Muslim Architecture remaining. All songs from this concert are extraordinary. Mystics Dream is the first song and a mini tour is provided.
thank you so much for telling me about the wiki page, that really helps a lot! and thank you again for your support! I'm looking forward to the other two songs you've requested 😊
