- The Canyon Spectral 29 and the Spectral Mullet. Two similar bikes in the sense of geometry but they have distinctly different intended uses. Absolutely spot on. This was just two paid goons reading a marketing brief. I don't mind partner brands but flogging the kit is not good viewing
Shockingly bad. Shame on pinkbike and canyon. At the start...this applies to all mullets. Errr no. Not when start talking geometry differences between that and their 29ner

They clearly state at the start of the video that this is an overview not a review. I’m not sure what we expect or are we just expecting certain information for each video no matter the format?
@@reubs91 Yes, I expect more than brochure bullet points, they are "professionals" I guess.
I feel like they should have swapped the shocks on these bikes, the mullet having an air shock would make it even more poppy, and the coil on the 29er would give it even more traction and control.
The coil shock is more sensitive to make up for the less smooth 27.5 rear wheel
I'm a full 29er all the way, redwoods in RotoVegas (Rotorua, NZ) is a wicked playground since I built my own bike. Love your work guys...and gals 😃

I got my Spectral 27.5 CF about a year ago and love it! I'm big and tall rider and I still like 650b over 29.

I ordered it a while ago, all I have so far is excitement of waiting for the delivery :D Got CF 8 version ordered. Looking at FB group I can see there are some issues that need to be addressed (like front steering top bearing).
@@Umarluch that is an easy fix. bearing is ok, the plastic spacers under stems are the issue. Easy fix with sandpaper and 5 min of work

I teed the “mullet” one today in Finale Ligure..in fact the same bike on this video / same specs. Although the bike wasn’t set up just for me and riding a different bike when used to my ibis ripmo was strange at first..I have to say it’s a lot of fun to ride. Geometry, mullet wheels and coil shock makes it a superb trail bike. It simply eats up everything your throw at it..this might be my new fav bike ;-)

If we're gonna do outright ads why can't they just be 30-60 seconds within an actual video. I guess they paid for longer. Meh.
Honestly, if you're gonna just read off the spec sheets and say nothing critical of the bikes... Just show riding footage the whole time. I got PTSD flashbacks of falling asleep while leaving the TV on in the 90s and infomercials were just on in the background...
EDIT: came to light today Jason Lucas has left PinkBike and is a freelancer now, who will help create pb content in the future but without being staff... one can imagine he wasn't interested in any more 5 minute ad reads or budget vs baller series...
🥱 - this video had great potential for comparing two bikes using the 'same' platform but spec'd for different purposes... instead you parrot what Canyon have on their website. You still got an extra view from the title so well done there. I'd love a matchup series of the top spec model versus budget model a range of bikes
p.s. if you make that video please do some analysis and and comparison 👍

It likely is, there is a very subtle "presented by Canyon Bicycles" in the beginning. Which is to legally clear this content as paid... But I don't think that's quite fair. TH-cam has a paid content tag that PinkBike should be using. Just having a small title shouldn't be enough to make a video that just looks like "hey is a mullet better than 29er??"

no, guys, you cannot have same angles with same front triangle, same fork and front wheel and lower bottom bracket on a mullet. if angles are the same that means the bb is at the same height. the only exception to this if you have some sort of angleset headset installed, but it's not the case here

One of the few frames which looks better with a water bottle than without it.
Personally mullets better because I’m quite small but it’s just that mix of having that big rolling 29er in the front and then the manoeuvrability of the 27.5 in the rear

For shorter riders, it really is. If you're above 5'10 or so, there's no reason to go mullet. My wife is 4'11 though. The closest she'll ever get to be able to get any benefits from 29 inch wheels is a mullet bike. They're yet to make a mullet in XS though. We're just lucky we found an extra small Juliana Strega when we did. Not a lot of options out there for petite riders that like to hit big drops and such.
What are your height’s and what size did you spec out large or medium?
Do 5mm of chainstay length really make any difference?

Considering that you have tested Fuel vs Slash, in case on Canyon you should compare Spectral 29 vs Torque 29.

Mullet is the way forward. But a 5mm chainstay diffenerce is minimal. Also saying full 29er is quicker is bull. Totally dependant on trail and rider.
5mm chainstay-length is noticeable if you got a little bit of feeling for a bike.

im just interested they say that some bikes in their spectral range come with a 150mm fork and 140mm shock but their is also 160mm fork and 150 in the rear which model does it start at for a 160mm fork upfront and the 150 in the rear just interested ive been trying to find the awnser but no one has said anything about it some help would be appreciated
This was the case with last years models - however with the 22-23 Spectral 150 Range all the bikes have 160 forks and 150 shocks (I used the term Spectral 150 because Canyon has just released a Spectral 125 which has a 140 fork and a 125 shock)

For the private owner, who just wants to have fun on his bike mullet is always weird since you need to buy 27.5 rear and 29 front seperately and you lose the option to swap the rims. With coil and air shocks you lose poppyness and tuneability but you gain reliance and resilliance... and maybe a few grams.
I dont find it true that coil shocks are not poppy. If you set the rebound correctly they can be just as fun with the ability to slow it down for a really planted feel.
First time I've even heard of someone wanting to swap rims before.
Do they make the Mullet in aluminum?
How does a Mullet perform uphill? Is it a downhill only bike? I think a normal 29er is more versatile.

mullet is avail now... and the 29er is about to be in stock with preorders live for end of march delv...
They are struggling to sell this bike in CF because its headset design is very poor and will ruin your forks steerer and creak so bad.(and you cant buy a headset to replace it because its proprietary design to canyon)
hence the advertising on PB.
buy the alloy version for delv end of march, mullet not available in alloy yet..
I have the 2022 spectral 29 and you definitely cannot get a 600ml bottle in the frame. You can’t even get a 500ml in it. I run mine in the low setting so I’m guessing the only way PB have got one in is running it on high. That however is the only bad thing about the bike, its incredible. Like riding a bulldozer with marshmallows for wheels.
You can with the canyon bottle holder and bottle... I run it myself

Are you guys both running it in the high setting? I’ve got 3 different bottle cages, multiple bottles and can’t find anything bigger than a 450ml that will fit. Like a 600ml bottle physically will not go in that space when the flip chip is in low

@@Shift4g The 29er "movement" is influenced by racing like it or not,just as in other sports.Bigger wheel is faster and more stable and more grip as well.The pros do the same tricks on 29ers as well as with 27.5" wheel bikes.Rampage is exception.What more could you ask for?I ride both sizes🤘

I got away from mullet bikes when I ditched my big wheel at age 5.
A mullet with a coil shock is where its at. Definitely my choice by far.

Theyve ruined one of the best bikes of 2022 by putting a stupid headset design in it.
