So what do you think, should we count Australia as an island or no?
General Knowledge I don’t because then you kind of lose the idea of an island and and it brings up the question of Eurasia being a Island because technically it is surrounded by Water on all sides
In my country we see it as both an island and a continent and sometimes we call it "Island-continent" so I think we should, plus Google's definition of Island is "a piece of land surrounded by water"
In my opinion, it is an island in the continent of Oceania
No-because of its geological past and rock structure. Australia used to be a part of a greater continent,then drifted away but preserved its continental character. The same applies to Antarctica

Yep, they both have (or literally are in Indonesia's case) a massive archipelago. Hard to find a more drastic contrast in climates though - tropical jungle and arctic tundra. Fun fact, Devon Island, located between Baffin and Ellesmere, is the 27th largest island on earth and the largest uninhabited island in the world. Over 55k sq km. Population zero.
I'm watching this from Malaysian Borneo. It's nice to see our little (3rd largest) island get some exposure. Just be careful if anyone wants to explore the forest. It rains a lot and it can get very muddy.

As an indonesian, i got a little bit triggered at the New Guinea part. I mean dud, it's official name is papua, you can see it in the name of papua new guinea and papua province (indonesia territory). New guinea is never been a name of the island
Also, not the Spanish, but the dutch ruled the western part until 1962.
@@koenkeep yeah, spanish are the one (western country) who found it in early 16 century but never colonize it, they just rise some flag over there and leave it for almost 400 years before comeback and then leave it again. Spanish call it papua as what the local and neighbor nation call it which it means (not united nation). But you see, when dutch and british come in 1880 they call it new guinea because lot of their colony in africa also named guinea so give new word and booom... It's new guinea baby

But the continent of Australia isn't just the island of Australia. The continent encompasses New Zealand, Papa New Guinea, and much more countries.
Not NZ, NZ is it's own continent, have a look at the continent of zealandia

@@rickielorimer3433 You're technically right, Zealandia checks all the boxes of being a continent. but it's not officially named a continent. Instead, Australia, Zealandia, and all of the Polynesian and Micronesian islands that would otherwise not be in a continent, are grouped into a continent (that really shouldn't exist - since it doesn't fit the criteria - but does 🤷♀️) called Oceania. So officially New Zealand is a country in the continent of Oceania. (but really is part of Zealandia)
@HiWetcam a continent is defined as a significant land mass that is not submerged by water with varying topography. By this definition, Zealandia cannot be considered a continent. If it were the latter, then India would be its own continent as it has its seperate continental crust from Asia.

A triggy thing about Greenland as the largest Island is: Greenland is many Islands connected by Ice, how many of these would raise above sea lvl once the weight of the Glaciers were move and the ocean level raise is hard to guess.

Any chance you could do videos about the United Kingdom as a whole but then go on to explain the relationship between England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Also it'd be good to have videos about the Channel Islands, Isle of Man, Isle of Wight and the Scilly Isles. Finally Scotland has a load of islands off it's mainland which you could also cover. Lots of languages spoken across the British Isles too such as Cornish. The Channel Islands' Government is interesting as it is a crown dependant of tbe UK but has separate legal systems. The dispute with French fishermen blockading Jersey is topical top.

You must be British. Let me be clearer, it rhymes with "Laff in" I never meant to imply that "laugh" was pronounced like "loff" or "larf" or "loaf".
Actually, when I wrote "Laugh in" I was thinking of the old TV show so that's how I heard it in my head.
In Ontario we pronounce “laugh” as “laff” not sure about the rest of Canada

You make a lot of assumptions here that simply aren’t true:
1. That I confuse “UK”, “Great Britain”, and “England” for the same thing
2. That I don’t know of/understand the oppression that Irish people (and others) have suffered at the hands of the English
3. That I am unaware of the distinction between: R. Of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and England
4. That I’m too stupid to understand that I don’t know everything
5. That I’m from the USA, I’m Canadian. Implying that a Canadian is from the US is as insulting as calling an Irishman, or a Scotsman “English”. It’s horribly insulting.
6. That I am unaware of the religious oppression, and violence that rocked both islands throughout history.
7. That I’m of pure English descent. No I’m Métis, I’m heavily descended from the French, and the First Nations. My family has also experienced some of the worst of humanity at the hands of the Crown, and the Canadian government.
8. That I meant anything in my previous comment as any form of challenge. Despite my poor (very) wording, I meant it as a genuine question, because I feel that gaining information from someone who has experience is always better than using whatever google throws out.
Apologies for sounding so aggressive here and in my previous comment (I can’t help it although I try), although it seems as if you’re looking for a reason to be angry.
