Hey Justin, I use the Tama version on my practice set with Zildjian low volume and Remo silent stroke heads and they stay in place no matter how hard I hit. The attack on the cymbals is a lot more quieter, it really works and is worth a try, awesome channel!
I bought the TAMA's on a package deal with the TAMA multi tool gadget (killer little bit of engineering) and the TAMA's have a sleeve of 1/2 inch that seems to suction the wood. The material is NOT ruber but more of a rubber/silicon compound that seems to have tiny air bubbles inside. Of course the 1/2 inch sleeve grabs the stick and the problem you will have is to take it off. As far as sound , it muffles the attack at different levels depending on the angle. I thought this was a GREAT little exercise keeping the same sound through a practice or playing with sound patterns.
It is after all TAMA!
I’d recommend the sticks Vic firth sells that has them almost glued on. They will *almost* never fall off.
I use the silent tips for edrums, i never had them fell off and they definitely make less impact sound, especially on the rims and plastic cymbals. Also they are meant for protecting the mesh heads and make them last longer.
Playing will feel a bit off for a day or two until you get used to the weight even tho they weight like a feather. XD

The Rubber Tips are mend to convert the sticks into something that makes it possible to use most surfaces as practice pad.

I bought those TAMA practice tips a couple of years ago and on rubber pads they sound louder.. good for putting on the tip of my hi-hat stand for safety reasons lol They never flew all over the place though!
I am more interested in that analyzer you flashed on the screen for a sec.. I had to pause it a bunch of times until I could see that it was a Beatnik rhythmic analyzer. I think that would be a pretty good investment for a beginner. I am going to look for a used one.

Vic Firth originally made "Chop Out" 5B drum sticks with those rubber tips glued to the sticks.
So i imagine what you picked up from amazon is the same thing just with you being able to pick them on any sticks you want. The obvious problem with that is there is no glue keeping them on the sticks.
I never had any problems with my Chop-Out 5B sticks losing the rubber tips.

What also funny is that I bought exactly these tips 6 months ago with the idea to make my edrums more quiet... which to my ears they made them more noisy :-)
And you are 100% right, I use A7 sticks and you could feel the weight.
Great for hard surface, useless for edrums.
Super glue the tips to the sticks you want to use to damp down the volume.

They make a Huge Difference in Acoustic Drums
I use the factory-glued ones (Chop Out sticks) and rarely lose the tips. But then, I'm not a heavy hitter either. There is no need to beat electronic drums to hell and back. If you want more power, just turn them up!
I bought them 1 week ago. They work as "practice pad", but i thought they would lower the volume of my rubber toms. Unfortunately they don't. But they work well as practice tips.
They would also be great to mute the chic sound on an acoustic symbol if you needed that effect

I think they are only half usefull. I do not hit rims and cymbals with the tip.

I use something similar to these and I dont think it makes a big difference with noise on edrums but I do feel they make the sticks less slippery on the mesh heads if that makes sense. I feel like they slide less and stick to the mesh head more on each hit.

2:13 The Vic Firth 5B Chop-Out sticks apparently solve the balance issue, as the shaft is altered to rebalance the weight of the built-in rubber tip: vicfirth.com/products/drum-sticks/american-classic-specialty/5b-chop-out/ Obviously they'd solve the flying-tip issue too. There's also a *felt*-tipped 5A, in fact vicfirth.com/products/drum-sticks/american-classic-specialty/5a-soft-touch/ , which would hopefully not cause marking of the rubber cymbal surface. But I don't need to tell anyone to stay away from the Vic Firth website if you want to avoid being tempted by shiny objects at impulse-buy prices. You should especially avoid vicfirth.com/specialty-sticks/ . :D Oh, and they apparently have the ESTICK designed for "today's electronic drums": vicfirth.com/products/drum-sticks/american-classic/estick/ . There's a video about them th-cam.com/video/CLX3xHrznQ8/w-d-xo.html but it just seems to be a pretty normal 5A variant, with a (relatively large, SD1-derived) barrel tip and a long taper.
I'd guess that rubber (or felt) tips would be most useful on low-volume cymbals or Jobeky-style metal-surfaced e-cymbals, as a way to reduce stick-impact noise. But then the feel would lose some of its realism, and would there be any reason to have a metal e-cymbal then? Maybe it would be useful during the night or other quiet periods.

Great tips in your videos. One question. Will these silicone (rubber) practice tips help protect the mesh heads, or, I should say, help them to last a bit longer? I've recently seen a set (4 tips) for $9.99. Thinking of getting them. I don't want them to play softer, noise-wise persay, I just to help make the mesh heads last a bit longer on my Alesis Nitro Mesh.
Might be better to buy nylon-tipped sticks instead.

As for me, they just feel a bit heavier and they don't absorb vibrations, maybe that's why
if you want quieter drum sticks you need to find the smallest diameter sticks available, like jazz sticks. These will reduce the impact sound. Or you can buy some Pro Mark Hot Rods, break away all of the wood pieces from the end until there are only 5-7 wood sticks on each Hot Rod. Then tape those together a few times. They work on e-drums and are much quieter than regular sticks.
