Michael...I have loved and admired Joyce for a long time. So have thousands of people. You will find her singing in many styles on TH-cam. She often sings for The Met. Her role in Agrippina is to die for. She has sung an inspiring concert "I dream a world" for The Met recently which you can pay a small amount "on demand" to watch. She speaks wise words during the concert, words of hope for us all. She is an angel.
I love how they enter the stage at the start, one by one. Committed musicians, one hears that from the first note. All the soloists intriguing. A passionate performance. Bravo! PS. DiDonato’s ephemerous pianissimos are to die for.
She is marvelous! and with a fine orchestral partnership, especially good bassoon [;aying in the first aria. Almost three hundred years ago, Handel's castrati singers mesmerized the stage. Even in a concert performance, Joyce DiDonato draws us back into that powerful musico-dramatic world. Thank you for making this available.

Just mesmerizing !! I love everything about this. Creative beginning. Joyce is in as good voice as I have ever heard. She is a treasure, both vocally and dramatically. Amazing sound engineering on this too. Makes such a difference. The gentleman playing the lute like instrument is very handsome. Never hurts . Lol

Was not knowledgeable about this aria. So it was fascinating to get an English translation and then listen to two superstar countertenors as well as Joyce di Donato’s interpretations. What an absolutely wonderful journey learning about this masterpiece.
My personal favourite with this remarkable aria is the late Lorraine Hunt but that's not to take anything away from Joyce di Donato, an equally great artist, regrettably a rarity in opera now.

It’s a sort of improvisation, based on the notes written for the entire orchestra by Haendel, the cembalist reads the whole partitura and makes a sort of compendium... then the continuo players (tiorba, viola da gamba, guitar, etc.) join him and perform a wonderful introduction to the aria
