Keeping doors closed to retain the heat is a good cost savor too! Some of those orange segments in a salad and or a smoothie is another option. You guys are great stewards of your $!!
make the cauli rice into a mash potato instead of mashed potatoes this month - add cream, butter, salt and pepper - if you want to put in an extra vege add some frozen spinach - really yummy - I am eating down my pantry this month, I now live on my own and things go off unless I keep an eye on things
Thanks, I love a freezer/pantry challenge in Feb. BUT, with our economy and uncertainty THIS WEEK, I am stocking up instead of running down my supply. We are in uncertain times. I have learned from you - BACK STOCK. Thanks! No challenge this month....sp
Working through a no spend January and February right now. We always try to reset a bit after the holidays, start the new year on a good financial footing (being able to invest and save more right out the gate), and eat through all the amazing manager specials I have bought throughout the year.
You inspire me every year to do this in February too so we took our large pantry and cook out of the pantry in freezer for the Mo and it really does amaze me how much you can save when you do this
Oh contraire. We are in certain times. We have a felon committing crimes against American people, wrecking our economy, trying to remove social safety nets. It's going to get VERY ugly. Learn to grow food where you can
We recently moved our 2 freezers so I went through both. It is crazy how much you miss when you can’t see it! Our chest freezer I found chicken and ground beef that needed to be used right away so some of it I cooked for future meals and put them back in the freezer. Ground beef cooked with onions, salt and pepper and a little garlic and onion powder can make easy, quick spaghetti, tacos, chilli, stew, etc Cooked chicken can make easy, quick chicken soup, pot pie, enchiladas, Alfredo, etc. I love your channel and thanks for all the ideas!!!
I’m 76 and my health isn’t top notch and not always able to cook. So when I can I cook up things in freezer to put together on those difficult days. I put my chicken in chicken broth to freeze so it doesn’t dry out. And I keep ground beef cooked up like yours. Makes life a little easier. 😊
Yes, I'm working on a revised budget for this year. It's worked well so far for the month of January. Also eating from what I have stocked up over the last year. Trying to buy only what I need to go with what I have.
For the brisket I use a turkey oven bag I sprinkle uncle Chris seasoning then Worcestershire sauce cut the top of the oven bag. 325 oven I figure 15 minutes per pound then check the meat with a meat thermometer. Always turns out good for me.
Hi! If you compare the price of lunch meat and the pice of a whole ham I think you will se that the whole ham is much cheaper A "trick is to cook the ham in the owen and then slice it really really thin, perhaps with a slicer if you have one of those, and make your own lunch meat. About sausages, same thing, you got loads of meat, make your own sausages with ingredience you know is better than in store bought sausages.
Put your short ribs in the instant pot with: apple cider vinegar, liquid smoke and seasonings. Cook for 35min and let natural release for 10-15 min. Put in pan and broil with BBQ sauce. So good and tender
Prices for produce are going to skyrocket if tariffs happen. The US gets a lot of it from Mexico. Those avocados will be super expensive. I’ve been buying a little extra of everything when I can and I find a good sale. I buy meat when it’s marked down and use my food sealer to put it in portions my family will eat. We eat at least 2-3 no meat or low meat meals a week (beans, soups, stir-fries, etc). So many people can’t afford to purchase a whole processed animal or afford the freezers and electricity to run them. One year, our power was out for a week and we lost everything in our 6ft tall freezer. I got rid of the freezer and just keep what will fit in my refrigerator/freezer combo.
I peel my oranges and freeze them! I will eat them frozen or blend with a little juice for a drink! Totally changes taste when tired of just eating them!
Love the monthly Grocery Hauls. My house too is doing a pantry challenge, proud we have used some really "old" items that needed to get used up last month. I decided once a quarter to do a small org of my freezer to make sure that we use up some of the items so we don't have to throw anything out. For example, we had some 2023 items we used up last month...hey we didn't die, so much have been good ;)
I normally do a freezer and pantry challenge 1-2x per year to clean out and ensure nothing goes bad - but in the current trade war environment I am looking at this like Covid times and want to stock up as much as I can and not reduce anything!
We are working on our budget also! We are using the EveryDollar app and it’s been so helpful. Trying to cut back on grocery spending but it’s hard. I’m 37 weeks pregnant(5th) and don’t have much energy for cooking from scratch. Just trying to keep meals simple. Almonds and cheese sticks for snack options. My husband is packing lunch meat and chips from Sam’s for work and it’s so much cheaper!
You should plant loads of fruit trees that will save a great deal, as you all really like fruits . Check the climate to see if it would be conducive for some citric trees too . I tried some small patio fruit trees , apple and pear ,here in Scotland , but I wasn't very successful . But I'm going to try again, as I will with some veggies too. As the prices are really jumping up .❤
We are a family of 4… 40yrs,36yrs,8yrs and 17m and we are trying to start a pantry stock up, slowly and it’s so hard! Three years ago we moved about 30 minutes away from the city granted it wasn’t a big city like Chicago or Indianapolis, but it was a big 10 university town and when we chose to move out the country we chose to have to travel to get our groceries and it’s so different! I feel like I’m still trying to get used to it three years in! I really wanna get chickens, but my hubby is very opposed to it and cows are completely out of the question just because we don’t have the land for them, but that is something I would just absolutely love! It’s so funny to think because I was raised just outside of St. Louis and the metro area and it’s crazy to think how my life has just changed in the last 15 years! The cheapest I found eggs this last weekend was 60 eggs for $20 at Walmart, an 18 count for $9!
Good morning. Enjoyed the video. We are making our own broth. Making our own turkey and or pork sausage. Trying to clean out the freezer, making bread and muffins. Trying to save some extra money. Since we are both retired, saving on gas for the car by combining our trips out. Looking for other options to save.
I didn't need eggs last time I went to the store by they had an 18 count on sale for $3.99, so i got a pack. We will definitely use them before they go bad. I'm not officially doing a no spend challenge but I'm trying to cut our grocery and eating out spending way back in Jan and Feb. So far, so good.
I missed a lot of work a fews years back, as did so many people, so now I sort of continuously live in survival mode. Try to keep my expenses as low as possible, because inevitably there's always something unexpected to pay for.
We are doing a pantry challenge this month, too, mainly to use up some things before our trip later in the month. Love watching your pantry challenge videos
I’ll take all the tours and schedules you’re willing to share! I find it very helpful. I am quite curious about your schedule for cooking projects that you mentioned. I need to do some canning but it always feels like a full day project for me, so I was surprised when you said you had a plan to can something every week (if I remember right). I finally got my frozen tomatoes from the summer out of the freezer to can spaghetti sauce. Also, quite a while ago you said that sometimes eggs upset your stomach. I don’t know if that’s new, but I discovered that duck eggs upset my stomach. This was after we lost our flock of chickens, replaced it with duck eggs that we hatched, waited until they laid…then I found out that they give me stomach pain.
We are doing this this month as well! It’s my first time, hoping we save a bunch (family of 11). You guys should get pigs next, they have been our easiest animals so far :) I truly enjoy your channel and look forward to every video thank you for sharing your life!
We have a huge gardens and that are separate for seasons and root veg herb onion garden and lettuce radishes cucumbers and we have a woman's and young lady's canning and pantry foods and make our own pastas and flower
We work on a very tight budget but I’m trying so hard not to buy unnecessary items and work through what I have each month , it’s hard but we do ok .great video Sarah xx
Great Short Rib recipes for instant pot online. You can even throw them in frozen!!! Good luck with the “pantry challenge”! I’m doing the same but only for two. 😊
I cook brisket in my slow cooker with onions, carrots, chopped celery and stock + seasonings ( salt & pepper and a good dash of Worcestershire sauce……) …. Delicious xx 🇬🇧 😊
I don't know I haven't bought any eggs lately but an 18 pk a few weeks ago was 4.99 I think that's expensive.... ❤🎉 An I love watching all ur videos. An seeing ur food storage is nice . Lasagna an stuffed shells when u make ur cheese just something to make an use the cheese with. ❤
Short ribs are easy and delicious cooked on a slow cooker. Bird Flu is rampant across the world right now which if affecting flocks and therefore prices. It’s bad enough that our vet sent out warnings about our cats and keeping them safe.
Even though I am a young senior and I stock up all the time, I am working on going through some of my older things in the freezer and pantry, checking expiration dates and cooking meals ahead so I'm not tempted by fast food because I don't have anything ready to eat.. I have failed that twice this month with a sick dog and not thinking ahead to what I was going to eat for dinner and a car repair that while I was home while they repaired the car my mind was not thinking about dinner but what was wrong with my car and how much it was going to cost so 2 frugal fails. Today I just baked 2 pounds of Whiting Filets for the "fast food" deep freezer meals. I cooked and deboned 20 pounds of Chicken yesterday put in single serve containers and saved the broth and froze it too. I also had bought a big bag of mixed berries at Sam's yesterday and have those divided out and going in to the deep freezer, again less temptation to go out and buy snacky stuff if I have good healthier choices here. Baked brownies this week, shared some with a neighbor and froze some. Baked spice cookies last week, again shared some with a neighbor ( neighbor has 4 boys and another boy on the way) so sweets are always welcome at their house. I still have some cookie dough left that I need to bake and put in the deep freezers. Anna In Ohio
Will you be planting fruit trees and planting veg such as onions and potatoes ? This will really help with your shopping budget ! Get a local farmer to plough a field for you and that will help with getting you started , you already have plenty of manure from your cows and chickens , I know it’s lots of work but the savings will really help ❤ xxx
@@OurTribeofManyI'm so glad to see your response to his question. I had asked you this once sometime during this past year and suggested the same about having a neighbor help you plow a field. And please please film the whole process from the beginning when they plow the field for you. And please have ALL of your family involved then you won't have to do it all yourself. I tried the no spend January, but didn’t do as well as I had hoped. I’m trying again this month, and like you, we are eating from my stockpile in the pantry and freezer!

How about an inside fridge tour?

I will have to try that. I never thought about freezing oranges. Thanks for the idea.
Short ribs, brisket make great beef barbecue for lunches . Also sliders

70 degrees in Kentucky today. We are enjoying the nice weather while it lasts. Next week, winter returns. No wonder we're all getting sick.😊😊
That's why people are getting sick.
I need to restock things as well.
My greatgrandmother used to braise then slow cook short ribs. Probably much easier now with insta pots and crock pots
I cook brisket in the oven all day. Worked great. I love to smoke them but the oven is easier.
