I didn't start listening to his music until in recent weeks but I was still stunned by his death last January. Now I suddenly want to sing more and make music more.
While db did do the soundtrack to the TV miniseries The Buddha of Suburbia, that was never commercially released (save for the unaltered track on the LP of the same name), The LP 'Buddha of Suburbia' was a whole different beast from the soundtrack with only the title track being 'ported' over. The LP expanded upon the motifs in his soundtrack work for the series and therefore is not a 'soundtrack' as it is mislabeled as but indeed a whole LP in of itself much like including "Cat People (Putting Out Fire)" on the Let's Dance LP. Although a more accurate comparison would be to compare it to Madonna's I'm Breathless (Songs from and Inspired by the Film Dick Tracy) wherein only 4 of the 12 trax are direct from the movie and the other 8 are different, with 6 of the trax being whole new creations and 2 being interpretaions ("Now, I'm Following You" parts 1 & 2).
When it comes to Bowie's EARLY years these asshat biographers always overlook his foray into mime during the late 60's, which was a very crucial and significant phase in his evolution as an artist and performer, .. . being where the theatrical persona element in his act came from.
I love David Bowie. (The late) Kurt Cobain of Nirvana remade the song The Man Who Sold The World (a David Bowie song). He's lucky to be married to Imani.
Bowie released so much in his career that just mentioning them all and showing short clips takes the whole 6 minute time limit! Sad there was no time for more insight on his interesting personal life.
