This is the best Godzilla movie ever! I have the same nostalgic feelings as I watched this many times when I was a kid. Great documentary as well, glad to see others who enjoy this film.
Good commentary, and well presented. This was my first Godzilla movie too, and this unique version of Godzilla will always be the true Godzilla to me. Also very pure, no monster fights - just Godzilla and his destruction. I was 10 years old when I saw this and it was the start of my love for big G. 35 years ago!
I saw this in the movies in '85 (my 2 big brothers took me) I LOVED it and still do! I actually remember that advertisement that you start the video with. I remember tearing up when Godzilla fell into the volcano. Something you didn't mention is that the North American version added a death scream to this (it is VERY effective)
To be honest with you, when I was a teenager I watched the American cut of the movie for the first time ever online for free, but fast foward to 2023 and I finally bought the original Japanese uncut version which cost me $185 to buy it but, it was well worth buying it. Because, I think that this was one of the greatest Godzilla movies of all time and I think it's the most underrated Godzilla film ever. It's ashame that they treated this movie like it was a joke but, critics are just plain stupid. As a Godzilla fan since I was a little boy, this film deserves better & appreciation. But of course, I don't care what the critics say about it, this was a great Godzilla movie.🤟
Being a Goji Lover/Watcher Still at 61 yrs. young, and my Son was born in '85, & it came to USA on my Brother's Birth Day (R.I.P. Jeffzilla '86) I LOVED IT!!
Great work! This was the 4th Goji film I ever saw and I have similar feelings on it. This one scared me as a 5 year old and made me cry because of the sorrowful music plus Gojis roar at the end. I honestly thought he died and it was the last Godzilla film which made me avoid re-watching it for many years...until I finally saw GvBiollente when I was 11 lol. Keep up the great work man!
Same here. This was the first Godzilla movie I ever saw. I must have been 6 or 7 at the time. It was the first TV broadcast of it on channel 11 NY. It had those Godzilla Dr Pepper adds running during commercials. The music scared the crap out of me and It was hard not to cry at the end.
I remember watching this when my grandma owned it on VHS. But that one was released by StarMaker back in 1997. I do own the uncut version of Godzilla 1984 by Kraken Releasing. The only other way to get Godzilla 1985 on DVD was thru SumoGorilla. But that site is no longer around and I don't what happened to it. It's probably THE ONLY ONE not released on DVD/Blu-Ray. I still have the StarMaker VHS tape to this day. Hope one day we can see Godzilla 1985 alongside Godzilla 1984.
I’ve seen both versions of the movie and I honestly don’t know which one I prefer more. I like some of the changes they made for the 1985 cut but there were others I didn’t care much about. The Japanese I think does have too many scenes of Godzilla doing nothing and looking weird but it also has certain scene that wish the kept in the 1985 version. I’ll have to watch them both more to come to a final decision but I think the movie overall is great.
@@treystephens6166 There is the original Japanese cut from 1984, and there’s the 1985 American cut that cuts out a lot of scenes and adds in new footage with American actors.
I still love this movie (both versions) but I do find the 85 cut to be better paced and I do think the last few minutes with Burr's monolouge is infinitely better than the original's ending. 84 has more context in terms of characters, and plot, but truth be told I typically watch the 85 version more.
Most likely not, New World Pictures no longer exists. They were bought by 20th Century Fox which is now owned by Disney. There’s too many legal nonsense in the way.
