Although they couldn't fit Mothra in their budget for Godzilla vs. Monster Zero....from my perspective of the Godzilla storyline....Mothra's goal was to get Godzilla and Rodan to get along and work together against a more dangerous threat to mankind. Mission accomplished. Plus Mothra was either entering or was in its cocoon stage.
I remember seeing this in the early 1980s with my friends. Our local theatre would show such classics on Saturdays. It was so cool to see these on the big screen!
As an enormous fan and respecter of the original Gojira film, I loved the happy dance in this one. The series had done what it could in the area of dark analogy. Letting Godzilla naturally evolve into a children's hero was perfect for the time, and it gave the monster greater longevity.
Thinking back on it, from Godzilla Vs King Ghidorah onward, you can see a short of character arc to the big guy. Up until that movie he was an enemy of humanity, but perhaps after agreeing to help Mothra and seeing how humanity could change their views, he began seeing their relationship in a different light. Perhaps he's one of the reasons Monster Land/Island exists in Destroy All Monsters, because he knew to have all monsters living on a single island would probably be pretty chaotic, so he willingly went with the humans to become a sort of overseer and keep the balance between kaiju.
Monsterverse is using that concept. With the Monsters having a pecking order. Godzilla and Kong being Kings of the monsters and territorial. I always liked the special effects for the space ships in this movie. They fit the design and they seemed to pop off the screen without looking too fake, or if they did, it was easy to forget. The Godzilla dance was a low point, but now it's so hilarious that I can't think of Godzilla without it. Like his horizontal drop kick, and atomic breath blast flying when the script calls for it.
Just watched Frankenstein Conquers The World last night and was struck by how beautiful Kumi was. Hearing Nick Adams dubbed in Japanese was new to me, but it seemed like they used a couple bits of his own voice in English.

Monster Zero is one of my top five favorite Godzilla movies. My only complaints, aside from the infamous Godzilla victory dance, is 1) not enough monster footage, as you’ve pointed out, and 2) the final battle was rushed, as if the script writers ran out of ideas, and the use of the - by then - cliché of the monsters tumbling into the deep. Also, it’s a WTF moment to see King Ghidorah flying away while Godzilla and Rodan are left underwater! Since King Ghidorah is shown as the last monster standing, I guess this could be considered as tactical victory for him.
Another really interesting video. Always liked the Xiliens, wish they would have made a couple more appearances during the Showa era. They were interesting villains. The costumes look iconic. I remember renting this movie from Blockbuster in the 90s and absolutely loving it as a kid. Definitely got me hooked.
I know this isn’t the actual reason, but I like to think that the Xiliens did not ask for mothra is cause they thought that mothra would prob know their plan and rat them out with the help of her shobijin but idk it’s just my head cannon
This is one of my favorites watching it on tv back in the day (as well as Ghidorah the 3 Headed Monster, Godzilla vs Mothra) Warts and all. I've been watching and enjoying these videos for awhile. You know your stuff Bill. Keep them coming my good man All the best.
Great work on this whole series man. Thought you might like to know about another origin for the Shie dance. I had heard it was Nakajima's nephew who was a huge fan of the manga, and Nakajima asked to insert the victory dance, and as it was a kids request and Honda always thought big his Kaiju movies a kid friendly, he agreed, but later regretted the insertion of the scene. I heard this through one of the Kaiju wiki's, but I've seen it elsewhere too.
I have this movie as part of Classic Media's Godzilla Collection. Nick Adams ' embarrassing Oscar incident is mentioned in the commentary. It's especially sad seeing it in your video. I feel bad for the poor guy!
I absolutely love this one when I was a kid! When I was in fourth grade I went to an inner-city school on the bad side of one of the worst cities in the country. It was what some people would call ghetto. But every year there was a movie day where kids would go to the auditorium and they would play a movie at the second half of the day instead of having class. On that year they played this movie in the auditorium as years went on I learn to look back fondly on this time and wonder who on Earth had the awesome idea to play a Godzilla movie for all of the inner-city kids? To this day I wish I knew so I could go and thank them personally.
It’s impressive how we never got better looking alien humanoids than the Xillians in the entire Godzilla series and they’re not even good for general standards.
This is the saddest story. Honda had to watch them turn his warning of the H-bomb into a child's character. What's even worse, is the American who watched the original, but only saw dollar signs. Disgusting.

Over the course of Godzilla films, things were becoming less serious and more silly, aimed towards children. While the silly aspects of Godzilla is a defining trait of the showa era, I really empathize with the staff who felt that Godzilla was becoming something else than what he was previously with moments such as the dance showcasing that
Great video. This movie was one of my three favorite Godzilla films as a child. You included a bit of dialog that confused me as a kid and still does today. When the alien leader blows up their flying saucer - presumably killing himself and everyone on board - he says “we escape into the future” as he pushes the button. Was he talking about reincarnation? Or did he not expect the ship to explode? Or something else? At the time I first saw this I assumed it was probably an error in translation for the US dub.
Big Action Bill. Godzilla & the Spacemen from Planet X have returned. They're featured in the new comic series, "Godzilla Vs Power Rangers". I just finished the first issue & it was very enjoyable. I really enjoy your channel & thought I'd give you the heads up.
I have loved this film (which I've always as Godzilla vs Monster Zero) my entire life. The monsters are cool, Nick Adams and the actor who played Ken were hot. The plot was a little confusing, but that's par for the course in Godzilla movies. But the best thing about this movie is that you can watch it on TH-cam for free!
At G-fest last year, people were telling stories about Akira Takarada. One guy who met him asked about Nick Adams, and Takarada referred to him as "Horny Nick." 😂🤣
Technically, Nick Adams wasn't lying when he said that he would never work in a foreign film, because he was referring to American-films filmed elsewhere, like the spaghetti-westerns. Invasion of the Astro-Monster wasn't that. It was a Japanese movie made in Japan.
@@BigActionBill I remember O and A talking about those videos, but never watching them. So weird that the Godzilla videos is what finally brought me here. All of this is great.👍🏻
I loved Godzila doing that dance after the first battle....I called it the Popeye Dance because Popeye would do that move in a couple of cartoons as he's walking down the street with his music theme playing in the background.
This is the 1 and only Godzilla movie that took place outside of Earth and it was in the mid 60s at that , it might be further more years in the future before we a modern day era version of Godzilla out of space ever again or thought of at all
This is so cool! One of my favorite movies. I think this movie has the best storyline of all Godzilla movies, despite some obvious quirks. I would love to see a proper remake as the overall script is really good. The biggest thing that always got me is that the Xilians told the earthlings exactly how they controlled the monsters 🤣🤦.
I used to watch this with my dad when I was small, always cried when Kumi died. It was a fun movie though. I think it was called Monster Zero when i saw it though.
As a kid in the early 90's i used to watch Monstervision on TBS on Saturday night & they would always play a Godzilla double feature & it was always the same to films , Godzilla vs Mothera first that would air at 10pm & then Godzilla vs Monster Zero at midnight , i was really young so i would always fall asleep a hour into the second film but it brings back some of my best childhood memories & to this day are both my two absolute favorite Godzilla films of all time after the original & Ghidorah The Three Headed Monster , i love all the Showa films (other than Godzilla's Revenge & Son Of Godzilla) , never liked the Heisei series of the 80's & 90's im only 36 but i strickly grew up with the original Showa series but i did love Godzilla 1984 (Return Of Godzilla) as a kid but of all Kaiju monsters & films , Rodan will forever be my 1# favorite , hes the coolest ever!!!! ❤️
I know this is a theory I got Wikizilla, but in the 1973 show Zone Fighter the leader of Garogas says that King Ghidorah was one of their creations but I guess it managed to escape from the Garogas' control and went on its own rampage through the universe. After Ghidorah the Three Headed Monster, the dragon king would of course be controlled by other alien races including the Garogas again.

If you have the time and the desire to do so, I would love to see your breakdown of the gamera films too!
I second the motion
One of my favorites.
Thanks to you, I bought all three Godzilla coffees! Really good, btw, ;)
Love your videos but bring back Mike zaun!! Honestly the best impression I’ve seen and each video gets better and better
Thank you, maybe one day!
@@BigActionBill I remember O and A talking about those videos, but never watching them. So weird that the Godzilla videos is what finally brought me here. All of this is great.👍🏻
Really enjoyed.. I was going to ask if you are going to do more Ebirah horror of the Deep Godzilla vs the smog monster etc..
Despite the goofy space dance, this film is incredibly awesome
Kumi Mizuno was smoking hot in her prime. Sorry, just needed to add that.
Oh yeah!!!
I loved Godzila doing that dance after the first battle....I called it the Popeye Dance because Popeye would do that move in a couple of cartoons as he's walking down the street with his music theme playing in the background.
Wonderful job.
I think it was called Monster Zero when i saw it though.
she was only one kumi out of many
As a kid in the early 90's i used to watch Monstervision on TBS on Saturday night & they would always play a Godzilla double feature & it was always the same to films , Godzilla vs Mothera first that would air at 10pm & then Godzilla vs Monster Zero at midnight , i was really young so i would always fall asleep a hour into the second film but it brings back some of my best childhood memories & to this day are both my two absolute favorite Godzilla films of all time after the original & Ghidorah The Three Headed Monster , i love all the Showa films (other than Godzilla's Revenge & Son Of Godzilla) , never liked the Heisei series of the 80's & 90's im only 36 but i strickly grew up with the original Showa series but i did love Godzilla 1984 (Return Of Godzilla) as a kid but of all Kaiju monsters & films , Rodan will forever be my 1# favorite , hes the coolest ever!!!!
