Rob you're the best interviewer who has the art of letting your guests talk.....John Cleese you are a legend of comedy and like Rob brydon, a national treasure
It could just be in the editing, but I think Rob has improved a lot of his time doing this. He used to ramble a fraction too much and stop the interviewee from talking.
Ben elton stood in for woman several years ago and whilst talking to a guest he spoke about himself continuously for over a minute! Rob is excellent in my opinion .
I really regret not selling the children and flying across the pond to O2. I've loved Python all my life, and treasure my script to "Holy Grail" signed by Graham.
I love all Rob's interviews, but I'm tickled pink to listen to him chat with one of my idols! I'm tuning in Thursday instead of Friday (it's my end-of-the-week treat), because I'm creatively stuck and avoiding the next chapter of my book. And here's Mr. Cleese, whose words of advice have helped me so often in the past, suggesting it's okay to be blocked and simply to forgive myself while my unconscious works things out. Talk about receiving the right message at the right time, and relieving me of guilt for watching videos instead of writing! Thanks, Rob! Thanks, John!
My fave interview yet. The irony with Cleese's observation on creativity was that he studied law at Cambridge. If he hadn't discovered Footlights and channeled his creative bent he could have ended up becoming a successful yet non-creative lawyer. Thank god he found comedy and comedy found him. This was an excellent chat, really enjoyable and a little thought provoking too.
Lawyers are creative though... with what version of the 'observable' truth they choose to concentrate on, depending on whether they're defending or prosecuting
Mr. Brydon, thank you for your show. Your questions for the guests are always the best that bring out the answers we want to hear. Next time you’re in the US I want to buy you a beer.
Listened to the full episode whilst driving earlier and could have listened to three hours. Rob you do a great job of pulling and gently prodding and then holding back and letting people talk, John has so much to say. The creativity bit was fantastic and this Sellars story was gold.
I am echoing so many other commenters. You are such a pleasure to watch. You bring out the best in your guests, you don’t make it about yourself & you are gracious. We need you in the United States!
Thank you for highlighting this amazing man and talent. He and several of his contemporaries have shaped humour for several generations. Thank you Mr. Cleese for the laughs and humanity you have brought to me.
Thank you for in my opinion, your best interview so far. Such an intelligent, brilliant man, I must say John Cleese is very good also , thank you both for sharing your time with all of us.
I like watching these because no matter who Rob interviews...a younger person, his own contemporaries or a legend like this...he's a great active listener and does these less like a regular interview and more like a conversation. He isn't reading from cards with questions on them. He does mention what he's read or heard about his subjects, but whether he fully plans his questions or not, it seems somewhat spontaneous. This is especially true when he builds off of what the person has said. Here Cleese seemed to really enjoy the conversation and the connection through their mutual understanding, even though he's old enough to be Rob's dad.
I love these podcast interviews! Please keep doing them for a long time! I also love these short video clips of them - i love to get a sense of the body language between Rob & the guest and then when I listen to the podcast i have that picture in my mind. Just brilliant!
I have missed so many of these great interviews and must catch up. It struct me about halfway through that I was allowed the privilege of seeing two masters of their craft enjoying a conversation. Rob Brydon is a master at the art of the interview, and John Cleese is comedic Royalty.
“The end of deference” began with Cook’s impressions of the PM ... I thought about this some months back and it seems you can trace the modern state of comedy and even politics back to that moment, good and bad. I’m sure there’s a doctoral thesis in there somewhere! Great interview, Mr Brydon, thank you! Cleese and his humor have been a fixture of my life since childhood ... for better and worse! 🙏
A lovely relaxed, informative chat between a comedy giant...and John Cleese. But seriously...it's nice to see John so at ease and willing to be engaged, and Rob willing to sit back and give him space. And finally, Rob...nice socks.
Interesting hearing about the musical. For the record A Fish Called Wanda is my favourite comedy film. Though obviously i've been a fan of John since i was about 4 in the mid 80's when i got into Fawlty Towers.
J - "Where are you Rob?" R - "I'm in Strawberry Hill between Twickenham and Teddington" J - "Oh how nice, that's a lovely part" R - "Where are you?" J - "I'm in Los Angeles" R - "... well it's lovely to see you"
Great interview, as always. It's interesting that Rob only does impressions of people he respects and admires. His Basil Brush and Scooby Doo are my favorites.
Bill Bailey, now John Cleese . . Thanks so much Rob, but where are you going to go from here? 🤣 Love how relaxed these interview's feel, my mind often slips into making me being there with you both and I want to ask you some questions. Keep up the great work 🤗
I knew his name from the radio comedy I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again which Cleese was in with all of The Goodies and a few others. Didn't know his appearance though. That has served him well.
I love the beaming face of rob talking 2 john John u dont get the credit u deserve in the uk, but know u wont give a shit haha Loved this interview cos both people were enjoying talking 2 each other
The real irony with Rob's podcasts are that even though they're not on prime time TV he shows he is light years ahead of Ross and Norton when it comes to interviewing his guests. A guy who asks sensible , interesting questions and then actually sits back and lets his guests answer.
Listen to the full episode free and exclusively on Spotify: open.spotify.com/episode/2jFuyx6V9XlMcnM8PtMnbi
It's less interesting on spotify - there's no video. I'll pass.
Rob you're the best interviewer who has the art of letting your guests talk.....John Cleese you are a legend of comedy and like Rob brydon, a national treasure
I needed this calm and laid-back heartwarming conversation today
It could just be in the editing, but I think Rob has improved a lot of his time doing this. He used to ramble a fraction too much and stop the interviewee from talking.
Yeah just after he has made them listen to a story about himself 😂
Ben elton stood in for woman several years ago and whilst talking to a guest he spoke about himself continuously for over a minute!
Rob is excellent in my opinion .
We should all commend Rob on his incredible self-restraint. He brings up specifically the class sketch, yet not one hint of the impression.
I was thinking the same when it came to the mention of Alan Bennet. I could here him saying "Peter and Dudley, Dudley and Peter".
Got to respect the greats
he's being a good boy in the presence of legend
I really regret not selling the children and flying across the pond to O2. I've loved Python all my life, and treasure my script to "Holy Grail" signed by Graham.
Words cannot describe how happy this made me. Rob, you're wonderful. This interview should be used as a template on how to interview a legend. 😍
I love all Rob's interviews, but I'm tickled pink to listen to him chat with one of my idols! I'm tuning in Thursday instead of Friday (it's my end-of-the-week treat), because I'm creatively stuck and avoiding the next chapter of my book. It was touching to see the obvious admiration and love for John Cleese that Rob Brydon had in his eyes. Great interview, many thanks. Be well 🌹
So many pearls about the nature & purpose of comedy, dropped so effortlessly into the conversation. A pleasure to listen to.
What a talent. Flowery Twats was the finest sitcom of all time IMO.
Farty Towels
Flay Otters
Nah, I liked Warty Towels better.
My fave interview yet. The irony with Cleese's observation on creativity was that he studied law at Cambridge. If he hadn't discovered Footlights and channeled his creative bent he could have ended up becoming a successful yet non-creative lawyer. Thank god he found comedy and comedy found him. The most relaxed, comfortable and enjoyable interview
Now this one I'm excited for. Will listen to the full version later.
Subjects I’ve not heard before from John Cleese.. and I’ve seen a lot of interviews… thank you Rob 🧸🐢👊🏻❤
The world has been so much better for the existence of John Cleese and his Python cohorts.
John obviously enjoys chatting with Rob and I'm envious! Great episode, thanks guys! Dave J
Mr. Brydon, thank you for your show. Your questions for the guests are always the best that bring out the answers we want to hear. Next time you’re in the US I want to buy you a beer.
Most comedians are smarter than most politicians. John is a testament to that claim. Thanks Rob. Wonderful. :)
Clockwise is an underrated film, I found it hysterical. I also saw A Fish Called Wanda 8 times at the cinema when it came out.
I agree a great study of time
Fantastic interview. Just listenened on Spotify. Wonderful. Well done Rob. Love you, Mr. Cleese. 🥰 (Love you too, Rob. 😄)
Yeah, I'm off to the full podcast. A little bit of Cleese is never enough.
He’s just a legend. Great interview Rob 👏
Words can’t really describe the joy that JC has given me throughout my life. He truly is a comedic genius!
Ty rob. You are so funny and now you interviewed one of my heroes.
Rob Brydon's interview technique is brilliant. So laid back and natural.
This series is FANtastic ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I was born and grew up in the tough, mean streets of Strawberry Hill! Nice to see it get a mention.
Thank you rob, so far this series has been awesome and I look forward to more
Thank you for highlighting this amazing man and talent.
Get him on WILTY!!!! THAT WOULD BE AMAZING!
John is looking well and happy, good to see. Excellent interview as ever, thanks again for your wonderful work Rob x xxxx x
This was brilliant...ROBB..Love you ALL the way from California and back again....
What a wonderful interview. Thanks, Rob and John

That was probably the fastest 15 minutes of my life! Riveted.
I can't believe it wasn't 5 minutes!
I love these podcast interviews! Please keep doing them for a long time! I also love these short video clips of them - i love to get a sense of the body language between Rob & the guest and then when I listen to the podcast i have that picture in my mind. Just brilliant!
John Cleese is so wise. Always just think of him as a brilliant comedian, but his thinking and observations are spot on. He's a Philosopher.
I just love that Rob sits there with his slippers on.
ABSOLUTE PLEASURE to see and listen to dear dear JOHN CLEESE! BLESS HIM! A TRUE MASTER!
I have missed so many of these great interviews and must catch up. It struct me about halfway through that I was allowed the privilege of seeing two masters of their craft enjoying a conversation. Rob Brydon is a master at the art of the interview, and John Cleese is comedic Royalty.
What Cleese says about creativity being linked to the ability to play is spot on. So many lose touch with playing.
He's so amazing, I demand he lives to 200!
Wonderful interview!! Thanks Rob!!🌼
Best interview yet , what a delightful man , and so deftly handled - great job , thanks
Oh I do love these interviews! 👍
Great interview. There right when they say comedy is a serious business.
They’re correct in their assertion that there’s seriousness in comedy.
Oh my gosh! That was wonderful!! Thank you!!!!!
Fascinating chat. Thanks, gents.
A lovely relaxed, informative chat between a comedy giant...and John Cleese. But seriously...it's nice to see John so at ease and willing to be engaged, and Rob willing to sit back and give him space. And finally, Rob...nice socks.
Terrific as usual. Deepest appreciation & best regards from L.A.
Just wonderful ! Thanks
Brilliant interview, some fascinating ideas and insights from John!
This is one of the best john cleese interviews ever
What a lovely conversation.
Superb - thank you both ! Yes, " the pen IS mightier than the sword" Edward Bulwer Lytton , just as a meal IS mightier than a missile
Fabulous & interesting interview!
Good one Rob. You must be so proud ! ;)
Great interview Rob. You really allowed JC to explore some important ideas.
John Cleese is a TRUE Legend! 😎🎸🤘
A Fish Called Wanda - The Musical?! Bostin! I can't wait!
Interesting hearing about the musical. For the record A Fish Called Wanda is my favourite comedy film. Though obviously i've been a fan of John since i was about 4 in the mid 80's when i got into Fawlty Towers.
Great stuff Rob!
Brilliant, really enjoyed this one =)
A 15 min master class from John Cleese
Delightful :) Thanks Rob!
J - "Where are you Rob?"
R - "I'm in Strawberry Hill between Twickenham and Teddington"
J - "Oh how nice, that's a lovely part"
R - "Where are you?"
J - "I'm in Los Angeles"
R - "... well it's lovely to see you"
Fetchez la vache!
Best line ever.
Great interview, as always. It's interesting that Rob only does impressions of people he respects and admires. His Basil Brush and Scooby Doo are my favorites.
Bill Bailey, now John Cleese . . Thanks so much Rob, but where are you going to go from here? 🤣
Love how relaxed these interview's feel, my mind often slips into making me being there with you both and I want to ask you some questions.
Keep up the great work 🤗
I will never forget the Camp it up scene !
John Cleese what a legend
Brilliant and not too long for an Ep.
I am sure John Cleese has given me more laughs than anyone else all the way back to 'The Frost Report' when I didn't even know his name.
I knew his name from the radio comedy I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again which Cleese was in with all of The Goodies and a few others. Didn't know his appearance though. That has served him well.
_Extreme Measures_ ... with Trevor Eve. Friday at nine ... on BBC One.
John Cleese, you made me walk in a funny way for years!
Now my knees are knackered. You owe me 4 grand.
Marvelous... thank you 🖖
Thank you for speaking to Mr Cleese. I thought perhaps he had been cancelled amongst his peers.
God of comedy. The place of comedy would never have chaged with out him
Instant like. Thank you.
A hero ! How could the world live without silly walks 😂
brilliant. great fun. thanks
'I get a pain in the back of my neck!' 🤣
I would love to see a Fish Called Wanda musical. But not much chance as I now live in the Philippines. Moved here from the U.K. in November 2020.
One of the greats of comedy nearly overshadowed by some very colorful socks and comfy footwear. (That's what ADD does to you, folks.)
I love the beaming face of rob talking 2 john
John u dont get the credit u deserve in the uk, but know u wont give a shit haha
Loved this interview cos both people were enjoying talking 2 each other
Two legends.
The great philosopher Cleese!
John Cleese asking permission to tell a story? Sir, you could read your car insurance policy and have my ear
Great questions Rob
Superb episode Rob, interesting, enjoyable, and soothing! You could end up being the next Parkinson, or Wogan 👍
The real irony with Rob's podcasts are that even though they're not on prime time TV he shows he is light years ahead of Ross and Norton when it comes to interviewing his guests. A guy who asks sensible , interesting questions and then actually sits back and lets his guests answer.
Marvelous! Great stuff! :)
cracking!
I've always appreciated you Rob, but when John Cleese said "well. You can get rid of gonorrhea" I hit pause and then subscribed.
I so wish these were at least an hour long. 15 minutes isn't enough.
You should have John and some of the other pythons on Would I Lie to you?, it would be legendary!!!
I get the feeling Rob is honing his interview skills, time for a TV chat show I think Rob.
I watched the show in a theatre in Canada.
A video editor should put Rob on a john/loo. His facial expressions go from constipated to surprised to delighted to laughing back to constipated.
Plus sitting on the john whilst interviewing one of the funniest, if not the funniest, living John is just funny.
