Can We Make This 1970s $1 HO Locomotive Run Again? Pemco Canadian Pacific

  • I couple months ago I was at a model train flea market and found this 1970s Pemco Canadian Pacific F7 for one dollar. The seller didn't have great things to say about it's condition but I decided to buy it anyway and see if I could get it going again. After a test, it was clear this thing was in far better shape than originally thought. Today I try to see if it can be brought back to working order.

I am and old time HO guy but I am learning a lot about repair of these older engines. I have built quite a few of the older engine kits but never tried my hand at repairing them . I have a box of old Tyco and Athern locos that are into their after life. Your channel has inspired me to drag them out and have a go at reserecting them. Thanks for the inspiration and I really enjoy your videos.

$1 for that and it runs amazing after a service thats awesome. Sounds to me like the guy was very picky or he just didn't want to put any effort into running the locomotive I'm surprised he even let it sell because I'm sure some people would actually say no nobody's buying it. The way it's built reminds me of a lifelike having the rear axle pick up one leg of power and it has the same setup. Very cool. I seen in previous comments mentioning that this locomotive looks like the one in Silver streak however I never seen the movie yet but I did see a cover for the movie and they are right about the locomotive

@@SMTMainline one of my favorite movies because originally it was supposed to be shot on the old Rock Island here in Illinois and Chicago but in 1975 or so when they were actually scouting locations the tracks were not in the best of shape ( remember the RI would have been 5 years away from oblivion in 75) and it was abandoned to shoot in Illinois due to the risk to stunt people and the only part of of the movie actually in Chicago is the brief 2 or 3 seconds from the entrance of the trainshed to the bumper in the old Chicago & Northwestern station downtown.
Actually purchased a couple of Athearn CP F7 A units and started getting some Athearn streamline passenger cars with the intention of seeing if I could modify some existing decal sets to a passable AmRoad logo but had to give up on the project due to not being able find sufficiently close decals though today a simple trip to a hobby shop for some blank laser copier or inkjet decal sheet and finding the artwork online or a bluray screen grab and the decals are a piece of cake today but yep that is the lead movie engine.

It's an EMD F7 with dynamic brakes (big fan behind the cab) and steam generator for passenger service (vents and exhaust stack at rear of loco). Agreed, just remove the current lettering and redecal, install Kadee couplers and get some HO horns from Bowser and there you are. If you really want to be fancy, add the air brake and MU hoses front and back. Well this train is kinda famous this train or type of train was in the movie silver streak about the murder of a person at the end the train was a runaway and crashed into a station so don’t think unstoppable is the only runaway train movie

I guess you didn't watch Untill the end. He got it running. He might sell it but it's definitely not going into the trash.

I have a Tyco Midnight Special that has a gear with a couple of teeth missing. Any suggestions on where to get a replacement (Australia). Hoping someone will gift me one 😂

The best thing would probably be just to pick up another power torque drive. Since they share parts just about any should work.
