posting the disclaimer down here too that we are missing some important pieces of the puzzle. aim of the list is to solve as much as we can, then make adjustments as the last cards are spoiled for the deck. its possible that a few key pieces steer the direction entirely away from what i have so far, so who knows
As someone new to the game and interested in Jarl, would love to see some gameplay (especially beginner friendly to talk through turns!). Thanks for the vid
Just started watching the video, so this might be egg on my face, but Jarl only creates *one* frostbite in an exposed zone of your choosing, as designated by the use if *or* rather than *and*.
I'm not sure there's a lot of reason to be afraid of Azalea. She's not high up on the meta list. Not super popular currently. Speculation is ok for now. We also have, The Hunted coming out. With Jarl and the new set coming up, I think this list may change quite a bit. Being that we don't know the equipment that comes with the deck.
What is your opinion on Imposing Visage ? Classic blue block 3, while potentinally having some good fetch target in the form of Crumble, Hypotherimia (and giving it go again), Channel Issen...
its a tough one to figure out, its pretty bad value most of the time, its best case being extra "copies" of the -1 counter spec to play on turn 1. however, i do think its strong! the main problem is we have too many good blues, i have no idea what card i would cut for it
@@TheTekloFoundry Thank you for your answer ! I do agree with you that it's hard to make space for it. I wonder if we can tweak the number of other auras (like Issen) to make space for it, since it's a flexible fetch. I'll try to cut warmonger (simply because we don't have a lot of rangers around here) to test it for a while. It's probably a bad cut choice tho.
I really want to play Plow Under and Felling with Jarl. Just not really about the ice / earth card ratio. Also most blue earth cards are sh*t. But imagine getting Felling'd and getting a frostbite.
As a Vynnset main, my runegates are weeping currently. Having to go down a card via her ability and having to pay an additional 1 resource or more is so punishing XD I really love his thematic and theme, but it's going to be so back breaking for a lot of heros, especially with those who's only decent equipment has bladebreak >.>
thats the hard part to determine, i didnt buy teklo core or spark of genius cause i thought they would be printed in the dash armory deck. i really dont understand how LSS decides reprints. i would expect some fuse card (oaken or expose) and probably an ice majestic (clf/blizzard) to be reprinted
I wouldn't buy anything before we see more because being a dual elemented guardian, his weapon will be absurdly important to how he builds. For example, if you were to try and build oldhim today without seeing Winter's Wail, you might end up buying all the expensive earth cards, then having to buy ice cards after he's revealed
you should still run a bit of equipment destruction to enforce the armor. I think throwing dmg and hoping they eat chip to avoid turning on your hero power is nice, but whats a lot nicer is consistently blowing up striders and battleworn equipment, essentially forcing your opponent to change their gameplan into you which is already strong enough. Second, not having felling in is an interesting choice. It thematically doesn't fit, but forcing a card to the bottom before throwing a tall attack is a great way to incentivize blocking because without things like that, Jarl's damage output will be lowwwwwwwww. For example, frostfang pummel seems really strong, but its really just a 4 card 9 which your opponent will just be able to throw back a 3 card 9 to stay even on value. third, I think you should look into the auras available to him (there are a lot), not just because his teaser literally shows the card art for Embolden, but also because his specialization and earth cards really heavily encourage playing around large turns and removes the punishment for running NAAs (their block value) with embodiments, especially with cards like Thrive and Florish available to him, and sending tall attacks will further encourage them to block with their armor to not die, which will leave you, ideally, with a second cycle of all Ice Blues which will grind their gameplay to a halt as all the blues in their decks become liabilities.
i address all those points in the vid, but to summarize my thoughts: you have better reds to run than buckling blow, etc. felling sucks if it only attacks for 4, which requires you to also run rootbound to banish ahead of felling (which isnt feasible unless you overhaul the ratios) the auras give up tempo for the opponent to attack with a free 5 card hand, and also price you into taking damage again to play your attack with the aura. theyre game losing if theyre drawn out of sequence and require a massive tempo less to establish for little payoff compared to efficient turn cycles
@TheTekloFoundry I agree with the buckling blow being too slow, but Jarl has the unique chance to actually play these auras out without losing as tempo (as youre already doing with CLF). For example CLF>embolden wont really sacrifice much tempo since youre throwing 1-2 points of disruption at your opponent while keeping an arsenal, it passes back to you after small turn which your opponent is likely going to setup a turn to pressure your hand on the crackback or will throw a lackluster turn at you through clf. If you lean more into auras you can start to run tech like Bleak Expanse, which is going to be pivotal against aggro, imo I agree Rootbound is a bad card outside of mono earth decks, but I only recommend plow and felling because you're already on sow tomorrows which has a really consistent play pattern for 2nd cycle decks. You block with your felling, at some point sow tomorrow it onto the bottom of your deck, and then the next time you see it, it will be coming in for 8. I would just run one felling one plow and leave space for summer's falls to not autolose to enigma A lot of good players build new decks like this to start where they build it super safe but dont put anything powerful for the deck to do. I know we dont have his weapon yet, but for example this deck throws Titans fist for 3 A LOT with how its currently built because in my opinion its not built for what Jarl can do that no one else can do. Right now everyones building him as a 1:1 of oldhim that doesnt have access to any of oldhims specs, winters wail or crown of seeds. Guard is unique because their blues generate more value than anyone elses blues. Embolden in blue is a minimum 3 value card no matter where its played, so even if you just pitch, on second cycle that card will win the game. If you draw a 4 blue hand second cycle against your opponents 4 blues, guards blues are supposed to outvalue. With the way this deck is built whats stopping opponent from just blocking out all your reds then trouncing you second cycle (the problem betsy has) For example, there really isnt a point to running macho grande because you have glacial footsteps. Tl;dr you have no earth in this deck, which is odd because of how many tools earth got (even specifically earth guardian) since Oldhims original time.
@@TheTekloFoundry also sorry for the rant, but I didnt mean bucking blow, I meant more the tower cards. For example colossal bearing (4r 8 attack, tower destroy damaged equipment) should be at 3, imo since you can activate it consistently with flourish and pummels, which youre already running. I know guardian endgame has traditionally been good but with only 18 blue 3c in the deck, youre just not throwing titans for 4 consistently enough to be a threat and youll get outsped by every midrage deck
I think you undervalued frost fang pummel there a bit. You called it a 4 card 9, but with tunic it’s a 3 card 9 You also said they answer back with a decent 3 card hand, but they just had to discard 2 cards and possible even have a frostbite now, so they might just have a bad 2 card hand. And if they tried to block and got pummeled you just basically time walk them. Not saying it’s the strongest thing ever, just that you may have not done it enough justice lol
@@vPegasus so yes frost fang tunic pummel is 3 card 9 (which is just barely on rate btw) and they have to discard too. But they pick the two, and this doesnt disrupt arsenal. Its also not CnC so they can just block 6 then dreact to 10 when you pummel. Also they wont be getting a frostbite because its a 2 red combo, so odds are its first cycle and you havent convinced them to block. If aurora can keep 2 cards in hand and keep arsenal they can just: lightning card>weapon>snatch> embodiment which is a 3 card 10 and threatens a 5 card hand next turn. Meaning if youre just pure racing them, theyre outvaluing you and still setting up. And if its a tempo turn they could just Face Purgatory to cover 8, you pummel over it, now youre off arsenal, off tunic and youve leaked a single point of damage. Frostfang>Tunic Pummel and CnC tunic Pummel are not good plays when your deck has 0 disruption, minimal damage and an endgame wincodition that's dependent on your opponent misplaying. If, instead that spot was felling or a blue embolden or earthlore surge or CMH, your damage is higher, your threats are scarier Like do you think agro decks are going to see you throw go from blocking 3 cards to blocking 2, open with frostfang with tunic up on an arsenal youve been sitting on for 3 turns and think hm I should block this at exactly 5. People arent dumb and if they are good theyre paying attention to what you're trying to setup. Also this is the IDEAL situation for that play. What will you do when you draw a red 2 block without pummel or tunic
my assumption is the new weapon is 2 handed, but that doesnt affect our curve or the inclusion of stalag in the SB (unless the new weapon is super broken into every matchup)
