There are adults who believe everything they see in a commercial or infomercial. Adults who can vote, drive, own guns, have kids, etc.
Some people are smart enough to question the claims of an ad, or to do research before spending money - but millions of people are not smart enough. I loved the Buy Me That series, and Zillions magazine (Consumer Report for Kids). New suckers are born into each generation, and the level of trickery only gets worse. Great job cutting thru the b.s. I'd love to see a reboot of this series for today

There are several shows that use this format. There's _Adam Ruins Everything,_ _Penn & Teller: BS,_ and going as far back as _Fight Back! with David Horowitz._ And Consumer Reports (who made this video) has a youtube channel. There are also lot of youtube channels that explain and expose this type of stuff. It's quite commonplace today.

I still have VHS copies of all 3 specials...years later, Jim Fyfe would go on to play a much creepier role in the Smart Guy episode "Strangers On the Net".
Also, likely in response to that one segment, later versions of the Guess Who commercial added a disclaimer stating "Game cards do not actually talk"...always thought of this BMT installment when I heard it!

Even as a kid I knew commercials had to exaggerate. To me it was about the imagination but I guess some kids wanted the cards to talk. I saw the TMNT toy commercials and I didn’t expect for my figures to recite dialogue in animation form.

It’s called knowing your target audience. Boys tend to gravitate towards toys that reaffirm their strengths and feed their sense of pride. Girls tend to like toys that appeal to their emotional maturity and social skills, generally speaking of course. It’s kind of like showing teenagers in cellphone commercials because young people are quick to pick up on new technology.
