My teacher showed me this when I was in 3rd grade. From then on I never found burger ads to be delicious.
One of the requirements is to use the actual food you'd get in the store for the images. That's why she cuts a piece out of the burger and spreads it open instead of just making a bigger burger.
It must have changed since 13 years ago because they _definitely_ don’t use actual food

This is why I have trust issues
I've been looking for this video (at random times) over the past year. I remember watching this in school and was just so amazed at the different techniques they use, i.e. using glue instead of milk when showing a bowl of cereal on it's own (whilst under hot lights). Gotta love the value of TH-cam!
"I'm a make-up artist for food" This line tells the whole story.
At my local burger place that just takes photos of the burgers after they are made, and one time me and some friends where there when they where shooting new menu pics, and before we had ordered anything the cooks just came over to us with plate after plate with burgers, and they where free. Best day ever

We actually did something like this in high school cooking class. Had to make a burger look like the ads, so we used things like toothpicks and plastic sheets to separate layers, and sprayed the bun with hairspray to make it shiny. Luckily we didn't have to glue on sesame seeds.
I'm glad we don't eat glue, cardboard or paper in my burgers... Or do I!

I read an article that says that only the food being advertised has to be real, meaning that the milk in most pictures of cereal is really something stiff that the pieces are stuck into

A roasted chicken or turkey used in advertising is only roasted for a short time -- less than half an hour for a turkey -- and then painted brown with soy sauce.
Ice cubes in soft drink ads are clear acrylic.
The item actually being advertised has to be real, but the extraneous items can be fake -- so in an ad showing cake and ice-cream, if the ad is for the CAKE, the ice-cream can be mashed potatoes which won't melt under the lights.
In cereal ads, the "milk" is half milk, half Elmer's Glue.
They played this video in school every day and it was funny every time

i had a friend who did a commercial for mcdonalds where he had to bite into one of these painted burgers, and spat it out each time after they were done shooting.

You can tell she is from the beginning of the 1990's (almost late 80's) not because of her hair or makeup but because she would be sued hardcore by the titanic junk-food corporations for doing something like this today. (along with the TV producers)

Some times certain commercials would show the burger as it would look like on the grill over an open flame or just before the lettuce and tomato are added to show how juicy and full it is.
It's a real shame that actually decent burgers are hard to find.
In-n-Outs and 5 Guys are probably the one ones worth going out for a burger these days.

Very Informative. How to "glamour shot" food. When is person a hungry is when they are financially most vulnerable. This seems like a "bait n switch" technique. The one on the sign is not the same as the one in the store. Do like I do when they hand you a burger that looks gross, just ask for your money back. No remakes, no asskissing management, just get your cash and go try the next one maybe hes having a better day.
