I also mader a vertical garden using shoe organizers and it worked out really well. I'm in north Texas and planted a vertical herb garden. I hung it on one side ot the shed out back and when the sun became too intense, I moved it all to the other side of the shed for the rest of the season.
I've had good success with the canvas fabric shoe organizers and used one with clear plastic on the front, to show my children how plants grow in there. Inter-planting flowers like marigolds and nasturtiums makes them extra nice. ;) Best of luck!! @@AIRStudio-AngelRiveros

I love this idea I would never have guessed these were shoe holders! How perfect! My family and I are just now starting to expand our garden by going vertical.
You could hook this up to a small pond with a water pump pushing the water up and the fish poop would feed the plants and have a nice flowering lily in the pond

Also, the room I want to do it in doesn't have access to water source. Is the pump method of watering that you showed going to be sustainable over a long period? Also, should I put plastic or water proofing behind the shoe holder so interior wall is not damaged?

However if is at an interior wall, I will absolutely recommend to you to be super careful, any spill or humidity will damage your walls and I don’t want this to happen to you. I am finishing my new vertical garden at an interior wall in my living room. Just give it a few weeks it will go online may be this option would be safer. Oh and about the irrigation, I didn’t use the galón for too long because I have 3 shoe holders and it was just to many times refills. But if your garden is just one or 2 shoe holders I think a galón of water should be fine. I hope this helps. Thank you again for watching !

Wow man this is amazing! I'm currently building a house and was looking at making some succulent wall frames for my alfresco and planting them in chicken wire but this seems even better! I love it 😍 I may even add a wooden frame to finish it off and hide a hose running up to drippers!

I've been wanting to put more plants in our bathroom, but its very small, we didnt really have any surfaces left. Then I thought putting some plants on the door would be a good idea, and this is just perfect! Im planning on just leaving the plants in the nursery pots, so it will hopefully not get moist and moldy, since it will be inside. I'm so excited for when it will be done! Thanks again! xo

I plan on attaching the hanger to a couple slats (is that the word? idk haha) so it won't sway as we open the door and hang steadily. My only concern still is that me doors are made of this cardboard like material, so I hope it will hold up when everything is watered and pretty heavy haha!

I put the plants in plastic shopping bags and then I place them in the pockets. This time the plastic bags get re-used in a way that lasts for long time and the pockets also last twice as long. Make sure you make a couple of holes at the bottom of the plastic bags for the water to run to the pockets bellow.
They really thrive for over 4 years, i recently moved and had to pull it down 💔 some pf them didn’t survive the move but lots did and now are waiting to be used in a new vertical garden much bigger Yey!

The cheapest way to fill it is to go to a “landscaping Nursury” the ones around town where landscapers shop. You can buy a ton ! Of plants for very cheap. (I also propagate mine to make it even cheaper .. good luck ! Trust me after a while you will be giving away plants because of how many new will grow 😅

I did a variant of it for interiors … I haven’t edit the video yet is taking me for ever. But basically instead of doing a irrigating system for that one I did a “self watering “ system with tropical plants that like to get their roots in water. I’ll post some shorts explaining better soon
In this case, because the wall is in a balcony is made to resist the weather. Also dry tolerant plants help too. The level of humidity is low. If you are not sure add a few layers of construction plastic to separate the garden from the wall, you can inspect over time to make sure your wall is safe. Good luck ! i hope it works for you

Great ideas... I think I try to find those in green colour as it would match the plants a litle bit more... and find a way to not piss of my landlord as I cant mage ANY damage to the walls.

What about can we put this above our living room couch, or to the sides? Because I saw the water drips to the floor, how do we make it so the WALL AND FLOOR doesn’t get wet???
America Bless God I think is doable. What I would do is add an extra layer of construction plastic to back between the wall and the vertical garden. Then I wouldn’t make holes for drainage in each pocket, I will just drop the plant as it comes from the store. I will add to the end bottom a gutter painted black with cover at both ends. ( I would not recommend irrigation , it can get very messy if you do then install the irrigation first and then plant on top so you make sure the water just goes directly to roots) FINALLY even though is not my favorite, you could try fake plants, they are very affordable, you can do any combination and won’t have any manteniendo or irrigation to worry about. I put some fake plants from ikea on some pockets where the light was too little and my plants die, and it looked amazing ! I hope it works let me know how it goes GOOD LUCK !!!!

This is a fantastic idea, I will try it out! Your plants are absolutely beautiful. I did want to let you know though, in case you haven't heard between making this video and now, is that hummingbird sugar with red dye is actually toxic to hummingbirds. The do make dye-less sugar mixes (the only 2 ingredients should be sugar and water) or you can find dye-less recipes online.

Good idea to have a gutter to collect the surplus water. As a suggestion, battens behind the pockets might help with airflow to the building wall.

They are originally much bigger but because I wanted to fit more succulents I split them in half… I read a few people planting strawberries

Is polyester UV-resistant? Will you need to be concerned about exposure to sunlight?

I did a variant of it for interiors … I haven’t edit the video yet is taking me for ever. But basically instead of doing a irrigating system for that one I did a “self watering “ system with tropical plants that like to get their roots in water. I’ll post some shorts explaining better soon

Thank you! Doesnt the wall behind the plants get saturated and damaged by the water? I've been looking for a solution for this.
In this case, because the wall is in a balcony is made to resist the weather. Also dry tolerant plants help too. The level of humidity is low. If you are not sure add a few layers of construction plastic to separate the garden from the wall, you can inspect over time to make sure your wall is safe. Good luck ! i hope it works for you

Great ideas... I think I try to find those in green colour as it would match the plants a litle bit more... and find a way to not piss of my landlord as I cant mage ANY damage to the walls.

America Bless God I think is doable. What I would do is add an extra layer of construction plastic to back between the wall and the vertical garden. Then I wouldn’t make holes for drainage in each pocket, I will just drop the plant as it comes from the store. I will add to the end bottom a gutter painted black with cover at both ends. ( I would not recommend irrigation , it can get very messy if you do then install the irrigation first and then plant on top so you make sure the water just goes directly to roots) FINALLY even though is not my favorite, you could try fake plants, they are very affordable, you can do any combination and won’t have any manteniendo or irrigation to worry about. I put some fake plants from ikea on some pockets where the light was too little and my plants die, and it looked amazing ! I hope it works let me know how it goes GOOD LUCK !!!!

This is a fantastic idea, I will try it out! Your plants are absolutely beautiful. I did want to let you know though, in case you haven't heard between making this video and now, is that hummingbird sugar with red dye is actually toxic to hummingbirds. The do make dye-less sugar mixes (the only 2 ingredients should be sugar and water) or you can find dye-less recipes online.
