Love the story about the Dream Team in Spain for the Olympics where the players couldn’t get off bus a block away from the hotel because there were too many people waiting and looking to swarm them to take pictures and get autographs. Stockton simply steps off the bus and walks straight to the hotel. Nobody recognized him or bothered him. Literally the most average looking dude, looks like a high school math teacher but will tear anybody up on the ball court.
That's a good one but The cwebber story the best of em all he was on bus and he said wait here is the baddest man on the court about to role up and it was little John in a mini van and the othet one was CWebb first game he said I'm going lay a good pick on him early and he did and he nudged him on screen trying to send a message and John got up and spank him on behind saying good pick rookie and Chris Webber said it was demoralizing

I completely agree. I’ve had lots of discussions with Magic Johnson fans and they get so bent out of shape when I say Stockton is the greatest pg of all time. I will also say Magic is the better player, but no one ever played the pg position better and more flawlessly than Stockton.

@@jonmolina948 In the NBA, I think he could have scored more if he wanted too, but that was not his role. As someone that saw a lot of his games, there were times when he could score at will. The issue that I had with him throughout his career,, was he was to selective in his shot attempts. Probably why he shot in the mid 50 percentage wise.
@@xtctrader1467 He did score in NBA but always got his 12-13 assists a night. Isiah Thomas he could’ve scored more. Stockton was around 18ppg in his best scoring years. He had some big games where he would get 30 points and 20 assists. He would contribute to 70 points of scoring on some nights and give you 5-6 steals.
The story Stockton told about Isaiah calling his dad before the Olympics to say, they both deserve to be on the Dream Team was amazing! This is something that really hit me, because that takes a special person to make that call when you go at each other hard!!! I never was a Isaiah fan until today!
I was an Isaiah fan as a player, but hated as a person , no more. I’m a Chicago guy, and what bugs me how Jordan is praised here more than Isaiah- from Chicago. Isaiah has done more for the people of Chicago than Jordan ever did. Jordan just hobknobs with the elite but regular folks just acknowledges. Isaiah has never forgot his Chicago roots and even those who hate him here recognize that !

I was fortunate to grow up watching Stockton and the Jazz through the late 80s and 90s and Stockton was amazing. The NBA today cannot hold a candle to the 1980s and 1990s league. Essentially, once the Dream Teamer's all retired the league really did change sadly forever.
The game changed but it's better now then ever. Crisp ball movement, positionless basketball. More about the team now then ever before. Just because of your narratives you don't wanna watch the beautiful game that is being played

@@nighthawk326 yup thats why the Pistons traded Dantley for Mark Aquire. Dantley refused to use his teammates more and Chuck Daly wanted Dennis Rodman to get more minutes for defensive purposes. So with Mark Aquire off the bench it boosted the 2nd teams scoring and wt Dennis Rodman starting the starters were better defensively. WIN WIN
Yean,Dantley was giving Boston tha BUSINESS in the Piston's playoff run,nobody on the Celtics could stop him. Then he and Vinnie Johnson cracked skulls that one playoff game and the series shifted.
I'm an Isiah guy but I loved the matchups he had with Stockton. Bird had Magic. Wilt had Russell. Zeke had Stock. So much respect for him. Great interview

I haven't been into basketball since like 2007 or so. Stockton was my favorite. You can't learn to fly like Jordan. You can learn to play sharp, fundamental basketball like Stockton. Loved watching him play, run those pick plays. Best PG ever, IMO. Watching that Bulls documentary last year, the most shocking part was that there were a few former NBA players saying Stockton didn't deserve to be on the Dream Team, which I thought was CRAZY. At that time, there was not a better PG in the game, including Thomas.
This man will forever be one of the most underrated, under appreciated stars ever. His assist and steal records will never be touched and I think he only missed a handful of games in his entire career which is incredible given his size and how physical he was. He was a pro’s pro. A shining example of what it is to be a dedicated professional athlete… and a good man.

Stockton had a higher shooting % over all in fact. Stockton averaged almost twice as many assists and steals and played far longer, dragging his averages down a bit as he got older. Even so, from age 35 - 40, he averaged more assists than Price did in his prime. Price is a good player - this is not a knock on him, I loved watching him and Kevin Johnson play along w Stockton, and a great shooter, but was not as good as Stockton.

I mean Stockton was a great shooter but Price was next level, one of the very few members of the 50/40/90 club. Two time 3 point shootout champion. Stockton had longer career with less injuries, also his assists and steals are impressive. They both have the same amount of rings and both were stopped by The Chicago Bulls from getting them I'd say. Both players to me are all time greats, but Stockton always gets his props, Price is hardly mentioned.
I'm thankful that whitlock created this fearless show. I've enjoyed watching both episodes with john stockton. americans can be proud that there are still athletes who speak out and take a stand.. in germany we don't have that.
John Stockton is one of my favorite NBA basketball players of all time. This was a great interview. It touched on many aspects of Stockton’s career that I wasn’t aware of, and John appeared so down to earth in revealing his experiences and thoughts while playing, and even now while looking back on them. You could tell the interview was well thought out before hand, and it opened John up to reveal what it was like for him during his NBA career. Kudos to the interviewer and the interviewee.
I remember John Stockton years ago telling the story about when he and Isiah Thomas competed against each other in high school, his father told him he felt he held his own against Isiah and Stockton's own words were, "I could never be that good".

Stockton's athletic ability is always underrated, always. He had smarts, great quickness but not speed, and that amazing hand eye coordination, like a great hitter in baseball, these gifts combined with his mentality led to all those assists and steals ...
Loved Stockton as a kid. Felt like you could kinda emulate him as a pass first type player.. Discovered him in the EA sports NBA game from the 88-89 roster. Used the jazz in NBA jam session and nba live 98. Good times

This is a a gem interviewing a gem. Fearless is a term that holds great admiration from many in this country. John Stockton, my basketball hero, was fearless on and now off the court. As a medical professional, the vaccine is dangerous. I wrote a letter to Mr. Stockton encouraging him to keep speaking out on this topic while those of us couldn’t. He is fearless and one of God’s best!
Zeke is the greatest point guard of all time but Stockton is a close second. It’s just a shame that we don’t see competitors like this anymore. I’m grateful that I got to watch basketball in the 80’s and 90’s. It’s good to see Stockton in this interview the last 2 days. Thanks Jason.
Well, thats if you exclude Magic, he was a true unicorn. Isiah is Isiah, he kicked Magics ass and Birds ass, had a winning record against them and Jordan, we all know he was black balled from the Dreamteam. Stockton was a fabulous PG, but he's just not Isiah, and he even admits that. But yes, they are more than likely 3 of the top 5 pg's probably for another 50 years.
Great interview. Found out a lot about Stockton I wasn't aware. I'm not a Jazz fan but I loved watching him and Malone play together. Two fundamentally sound players who were a lot of fun to watch. The Jazz were in the playoffs quite a lot so I saw a lot them.
The Utah Jazz went to the playoffs ALL 19 seasons Stockton played with them. He never knew what it was like to miss the playoffs. Wow. BTW both of the interviews were great, never expected to enjoy them so much.
Kevin Willis, Otis Thorpe, Sam Perkins, Alvin Robertson, Jerome Kersey, Jay Humphries, Michael Cage, Tony Campbell, Jeff Turner and Vern Fleming were all in that 1984 draft besides the big 4 HOFers

It wasn't for flash. John was a great ball handler. And he was a great athlete. People stereotype and it's BS. If you were in the local market then you saw John Stockton play. The NBA in those days didn't have the many ways to watch games like today. Sports Center did highlights and small market Utah didn't get much publicity until the playoffs. The Jazz might be on TNT in the regular season maybe twice.

Easily my favorite player of all time and one of the if not the most underrated player of all time. He’s the Wayne Gretzky of basketball. No none sense hard nose, just went to work everyday, and loved to compete. Loved basketball to the fullest. I don’t think he ever used an agent, and was clearly under paid, he clearly played for the love of basketball and competition, and not for the money. There will never be another player like him.
John Stockton was a pass-first point guard. His vision of the court was tremendous. Karl Malone could probably tell you a lot about John and the skill that he had. Long time ago, but I remember seeing JS in college, and he really impressed me with his speed and quickness and economy of motion. He was great and I was convinced that he'd be a great pro. He just kept at it as the years went by.
Ricky Green was my favorite, I would count up John's stats per minutes played and John's were better. This bothered me for a couple of years. I loved the fastest of them ALL too.
As a kid of the 90's, I was a Bulls fan (my dad grew up 20 mins outside Chicago, so I wasn't just a front runner) and Stocks was always the most terrifying player on those Jazz teams that made the finals back to back. Everytime he shot, we thought it was going in. we were all in shock that he missed the game winner in 1998's game 6. Mailman don't deliver on Sundays.
As a lifelong Piston fan let me tell you a funny one about Leon the Barber When Bob Mcadoo was traded to Detroit in the late 70s. He wanted no part of it. We traded Lanier and this was era of Kelser, John Long, Terry Tyler,etc. In fact I think Vitale was the coach of that team Anyway Mcadoo would have these fake injuries trying to force a trade. He hardly played Leon the Barber called him “McADont McACant McANeverWill” lol 😂

u never really appreciate them until they're gone. we lost alot of legends over the years but i'm glad he's still with us to look back and admire the hard work and dedication that he had for the game of basketball. Mr. Stockton made me understand basketball that it's more than flying around and dunking cause most of us can't do that. if you play with good fundamentals and dedication, you can enjoy the sport at any level. Stockton was arguably correct about Jordan's Finals shooting. Jordan's worst FG% in the Finals was in 1996, and the 1998 Finals was his second-worst shooting. However, using a stat called True Shooting (which encapsulates 2FG, 3FG, and FT), Jordan's worst TS% did come in 1998 against the Jazz.
jordan didn’t play for stats. Dennis was half interested. Pippen had bad back and was half active. Jordan led the team and beat that fully healthy strong jazz. Made that last shot. And u talking about stats.. Have u watched any of those finals. Hahaha
Here are some Jordan playoff stats to chew on for those who think they’re watching legit sporting contests: In the 1993 playoffs, MJ scored 666 points, including 33 in the clinching Finals game. His dad was murdered 33 days later. MJ was listed at 6’6” (though he was widely known to be 6’4.5”), and won 6 rings. In 2021, Scottie Pippen’s son died at age 33, when the Bulls had a record of 23-33, mirroring Jordan & Pip’s jersey numbers. 23, 33, & 56 (23+33) are all key elite #s that are seen over and over in news, sports, politics, entertainment, etc. MJ acolyte Kobe Bryant’s 81-point outing was in his 666th pro game, and he had a rigorous workout called the “666 workout.” I can go on, but the point is not to obsess over the impressive “clutch” things we see athletes doing and think there isn’t some kind of guiding hand behind it.

@@jonmolina948 In the NBA, I think he could have scored more if he wanted too, but that was not his role. As someone that saw a lot of his games, there were times when he could score at will. The issue that I had with him throughout his career,, was he was to selective in his shot attempts. Probably why he shot in the mid 50 percentage wise.
@@xtctrader1467 He did score in NBA but always got his 12-13 assists a night. Isiah Thomas he could’ve scored more. Stockton was around 18ppg in his best scoring years. He had some big games where he would get 30 points and 20 assists. He would contribute to 70 points of scoring on some nights and give you 5-6 steals.

I was an Isaiah fan as a player, but hated as a person , no more. I’m a Chicago guy, and what bugs me how Jordan is praised here more than Isaiah- from Chicago. Isaiah has done more for the people of Chicago than Jordan ever did. Jordan just hobknobs with the elite but regular folks just acknowledges. Isaiah has never forgot his Chicago roots and even those who hate him here recognize that !

I was fortunate to grow up watching Stockton and the Jazz through the late 80s and 90s and Stockton was amazing.
The NBA today cannot hold a candle to the 1980s and 1990s league. Essentially, once the Dream Teamer's all retired the league really did change sadly forever.

I haven't been into basketball since like 2007 or so. Stockton was my favorite. You can't learn to fly like Jordan. You can learn to play sharp, fundamental basketball like Stockton. Loved watching him play, run those pick plays. Best PG ever, IMO. Watching that Bulls documentary last year, the most shocking part was that there were a few former NBA players saying Stockton didn't deserve to be on the Dream Team, which I thought was CRAZY. At that time, there was not a better PG in the game, including Thomas.

This man will forever be one of the most underrated, under appreciated stars ever. His assist and steal records will never be touched and I think he only missed a handful of games in his entire career which is incredible given his size and how physical he was. He was a pro’s pro. A shining example of what it is to be a dedicated professional athlete… and a good man.
Mark Price is the most underrated player ever. Just as good as Stockton was.

Stockton had a higher shooting % over all in fact. Stockton averaged almost twice as many assists and steals and played far longer, dragging his averages down a bit as he got older. Even so, from age 35 - 40, he averaged more assists than Price did in his prime. Price is a good player - this is not a knock on him, I loved watching him and Kevin Johnson play along w Stockton, and a great shooter, but was not as good as Stockton.

I mean Stockton was a great shooter but Price was next level, one of the very few members of the 50/40/90 club. Two time 3 point shootout champion. Stockton had longer career with less injuries, also his assists and steals are impressive.
They both have the same amount of rings and both were stopped by The Chicago Bulls from getting them I'd say. Both players to me are all time greats, but Stockton always gets his props, Price is hardly mentioned.

John Stockton is one of my favorite NBA basketball players of all time. This was a great interview. It touched on many aspects of Stockton’s career that I wasn’t aware of, and John appeared so down to earth in revealing his experiences and thoughts while playing, and even now while looking back on them. You could tell the interview was well thought out before hand, and it opened John up to reveal what it was like for him during his NBA career. Kudos to the interviewer and the interviewee.
I remember John Stockton years ago telling the story about when he and Isiah Thomas competed against each other in high school, his father told him he felt he held his own against Isiah and Stockton's own words were, "I could never be that good".

This is a a gem interviewing a gem. Fearless is a term that holds great admiration from many in this country. John Stockton, my basketball hero, was fearless on and now off the court. As a medical professional, the vaccine is dangerous. I wrote a letter to Mr. Stockton encouraging him to keep speaking out on this topic while those of us couldn’t. He is fearless and one of God’s best!
Zeke is the greatest point guard of all time but Stockton is a close second. It’s just a shame that we don’t see competitors like this anymore. I’m grateful that I got to watch basketball in the 80’s and 90’s. It’s good to see Stockton in this interview the last 2 days. Thanks Jason.

Well, thats if you exclude Magic, he was a true unicorn. Isiah is Isiah, he kicked Magics ass and Birds ass, had a winning record against them and Jordan, we all know he was black balled from the Dreamteam. Stockton was a fabulous PG, but he's just not Isiah, and he even admits that. But yes, they are more than likely 3 of the top 5 pg's probably for another 50 years.

Great interview. Found out a lot about Stockton I wasn't aware. I'm not a Jazz fan but I loved watching him and Malone play together. Two fundamentally sound players who were a lot of fun to watch. The Jazz were in the playoffs quite a lot so I saw a lot them.

John was a great ball handler. And he was a great athlete. People stereotype and it's BS. If you were in the local market then you saw John Stockton play. The NBA in those days didn't have the many ways to watch games like today. Sports Center did highlights and small market Utah didn't get much publicity until the playoffs. The Jazz might be on TNT in the regular season maybe twice.

Easily my favorite player of all time and one of the if not the most underrated player of all time. He’s the Wayne Gretzky of basketball. No none sense hard nose, just went to work everyday, and loved to compete. Loved basketball to the fullest. I don’t think he ever used an agent, and was clearly under paid, he clearly played for the love of basketball and competition, and not for the money. There will never be another player like him.
John Stockton was a pass-first point guard. His vision of the court was tremendous. Karl Malone could probably tell you a lot about John and the skill that he had. Long time ago, but I remember seeing JS in college, and he really impressed me with his speed and quickness and economy of motion. He was great and I was convinced that he'd be a great pro. He just kept at it as the years went by.
Ricky Green was my favorite, I would count up John's stats per minutes played and John's were better. This bothered me for a couple of years. I loved the fastest of them ALL too.

As a kid of the 90's, I was a Bulls fan (my dad grew up 20 mins outside Chicago, so I wasn't just a front runner) and Stocks was always the most terrifying player on those Jazz teams that made the finals back to back. Everytime he shot, we thought it was going in. we were all in shock that he missed the game winner in 1998's game 6. Mailman don't deliver on Sundays.

Loved the 80's and 90s where it was about your team, teammates , and the city you played for. Now everything is about: YOUR PLATFORM, political correctness, racial/social views,and how you have been victimized. So glad Jason didn't beat the unique friendship of Malone and Stockton. Great job Whit!
u never really appreciate them until they're gone. we lost alot of legends over the years but i'm glad he's still with us to look back and admire the hard work and dedication that he had for the game of basketball. Malone and Stockton duo was legendary back then they weren't respected bcuz they was dirty when they was playing. he knew he was a dirty player back then and never deny it.
i was a bulls fan in the 90's but mostly a jordan fan even in the 2000's bcuz it felt like i was the only one rockin' a 40yr old Jordan wizards jersey. lol one thing i'll admit now that i probably wouldn't say back then is Stockton was underrated during his playing days.

John Stockton is one of the best players ever
I’ve said many years ago and I’ll keep saying it again and again…… Stockton is my starting PG in my all time starting 5. People may laugh and poke fun but his numbers and his longevity and his mindset says otherwise.
Stockton is soooo underrated in the minds of so many because he wasn’t “flashy” or super “athletic”. The man was RELIABLE, TOUGH, FUNDAMENTAL, silently CONFIDENT, CALM and COLLECTIVE, AMAZING TEAMMATE.
Edit: John hit the nail on the head about blaming the buddy buddy thing with today’s player’s because of the AAU organization. All these players know eachother since they were like 7-10 yrs old. But still, competition should be about beating the shit outta your opponents. Regardless. Also, John wasn’t a dirty player. He played hard. HAAAAAAAARD!!! The man was an underdog his whole life, so when he stepped onto any basketball court, he was out there to prove he belonged and to prove to everyone he wasn’t no f@ckin pussy.

MJ made me love Basketball. Mr. Stockton made me understand basketball that it's more than flying around and dunking cause most of us can't do that. if you play with good fundamentals and dedication, you can enjoy the sport at any level. It's a team sport and you do whatever your team need you to do..
Such a humble player, yet kids think he's overrated and all that, think it's mainly because his highlights aren't too flashy, he's definitely one of the very best PG to ever play the game, his skill, IQ, and toughness were off the charts

Stockton was arguably correct about Jordan's Finals shooting. Jordan's worst FG% in the Finals was in 1996, and the 1998 Finals was his second-worst shooting. However, using a stat called True Shooting (which encapsulates 2FG, 3FG, and FT), Jordan's worst TS% did come in 1998 against the Jazz.
jordan didn’t play for stats. Dennis was half interested. Pippen had bad back and was half active. Jordan led the team and beat that fully healthy strong jazz. Made that last shot. And u talking about stats.. Have u watched any of those finals. Hahaha
Here are some Jordan playoff stats to chew on for those who think they’re watching legit sporting contests: In the 1993 playoffs, MJ scored 666 points, including 33 in the clinching Finals game. Stockton keeps assisting after retired with his amazing life experiences and perspectives. The man is my all time favorite PG. As a huge MJ+Pip Bulls fan, John Stockton was the guy I scared the most during the last three peat. Every time he got a ball in his hands, I expected shit to happen.

good interview. I liked the conversation JW is a good interviewer and good interviewers make it seem more like a conversation then just a Q and A. I never had the privileged to watch John Stockton i was a kid and overseas but i hear he was really good. the biggest difference about today and years of basketball gone by is that when you went to a game the chances of it being a great game was 8 maybe 9 times out of 10 with good players there was something to cheer about now its well some people showed up and played not sure who shot more three's but we think the winner did. its interesting to see so many warriors of the past showing up out of the blue when the country is in trouble. love the show. this account is my gaming account those who read my comments know me as ReckNot thats my more political bent account but im trying to stay away from my smart phone so ill be on this one for a bit most anything in politics is on my phone. we need to stop being political and start caring for this country. take care all and pray for the changing of hearts in this Country
